Training with Umbilical Hernia

ad

I previously had an umbilical hernia repaired (no mesh) that started to pop back out a couple years ago. It hasn't really prevented me from doing anything until recently. I'm just looking for other people's experience training with a hernia prior to surgery. How did you adjust your lifting routine?

Obviously, probably best to just stay on a maintenance dose of test until it's fixed. What would yall recommend in terms of HGH dosage to recover ASAP after surgery? How quickly did you recover?

Also, after surgery and getting back into training did you still have to be mindful of the hernia when lifting or were you eventually able to go 110% effort again? And what did you do to prevent it from happening again?

Thanks for your input.

Had 2 hernia surgeries last year. Umbilical, & inguinal. During umbilical, no mesh was used and 2 pinhole scars. I was taking 4-6iu of growth 5x a week with weekends off. I was rowing, & lifting again within 10 days and lifting heavy again within 4 weeks.

After inguinal surgery, I was left with an 8 inch scar and surgery lasted 4x longer than usual. Doc said should be easy procedure since I'm lean and no fat to have to work through. When awoke from anesthesia doc explained situation with drawings and said he had to cut a lot more than he thought he would need to. After this surgery I was still on 4-6iu of growth but could not lift anything for 6 weeks. I was able to do light bandwork for a few weeks and started lifting 9 weeks after. Was 13 weeks before I could go heavy again.

It's really something that you can feel if you're pushing too hard. It's almost a year after the inguinal repair, and there are still times when I know I should not add any more plates. Not because I can't handle the lift but because I can feel generalized pain in the inguinal spot and I'm afraid of it somehow popping through again.

I had an inquinal hernia repaired and was working out again in two weeks. I do have mesh and every once in awhile it aggravates me and starts to throb and feels like it might rip the mesh or reagravate
the hernia repair. If that happens I give it a rest for the day and then anything I'm doing in the gym I lower the weight or pick exercises that don't fuck with it

If you lift heavy as I did it going to get worse in time, I did a surgery a couple of years back with mesh though it's great.. But it took me a year to push my self like before.. Mind plays stupid games bud!!

Takes a long time to stop thinking about the 'what if's' before a big lift after having an injury in the past doesn't it bro. Gotta get over it, warm up the best you can and only go for the lift if you feel its in there, apart from that all you can say is if its gonna happen - its gonna happen.

I have a very noticeable umbillical hernia that pops through my sweatshirt, and as annoying as it is, it hasent really affected my training. My doc said as long as it doesnt hurt, or turn red, you can keep training with it. He did say to always wear a belt during heavy lifts like squat or deadlift which i do anyways. I would like to get surgery at the end of the year.
