+ 2 Do you have an Age that you plan to keep training till?

ad

I've noticed quite a lot that there seems to be a general age of around 35 where guys train till, then it drops quite heavily in numbers. There was a survey I also came across that stated most simply give up the ghost by the time they are 40. The numbers are pretty low in comparison after that ....

Do you have a time frame or age that you plan to train to or are you the same as myself in that you don't want to imagine a day where you no longer have the desire to, or simply become injured in a way that you can no longer lift weights? I always think its brilliant when you see guys in their 50's and 60's still hammering away at it - It always gets my upmost respect and admiration :-)

I think if you're good at the sport and you don't reluctantly do it, there's no age limit. If it's in your blood, you'll hardly leave it. You lower the volume but you push it all the time.

Many boys practice this sport just to appear, without patience... falling along the road.

For my 40th birthday I can't complain.

I'm 47 & itching to get back in the gym! Plan on going till I arrive at "assisted living" facilty.

press1's picture

Are you planning on taking the A50's to the nursing home with you? Lol

Hell yeah.. Get everybody on it in that joint! My grandmother is 94 & still living aline in her own home refusing assisted living! I told her to ask her doctor for some anavar to strengthen her legs, because I'm scared of her falling. She said ok & wrote it down. I would love to see the doctor's face when she asks him next month!

Hahaha Lmfao Is she going big time and going in for the 50's

Been training since I was 16 and I’m 40 now, not had a break except for when I’m away on holiday or the week around Christmas and I intend to keep training until I’m no longer able to.

The big decision for me will be when I decide to stop cycling and just stay on trt year round (been trt’ing with normally two cycles a year for a few years now). I’m thinking some time in my 50’s maybe?

vhman's picture

I’m an old person and I’m at the gym (not during the pandemic) 6 days a week. Not looking to stop any time soon.

I plan on training until I kick the bucket. I’m fully aware that I may have to drop powerlifting for something more GPP related when I get older, but I plan on always doing something. I have a bet with my woman that I’m gonna outlive her and I’m not about to lose that bet lol

Eagles 2013's picture

I plan to go as hard as I can for as long as I physically can. Even if I suffered a catastrophic injury that severely reduced my physical capabilities I would do whatever I could to push my new limits. I can't imagine a life where I wasn't constantly pushing myself and keeping one foot out of my comfort zone.

ECinfidel's picture

I didn't get serious, really serious about training until my mid to later 30s and am 46 now. I'm in some of the best shape I've ever been in and have every intention of going until my body tells me otherwise.
There are guys at my gym who are pushing 60 and are absolutely peeled (and still getting on stage). Shit, I spotted for a guy a while back who was pushing 495lbs for 2-3 reps and hes nearly 60. I see these guys as an inspiration. I plan to be those guys.

ECinfidel's picture

Correction- the lift was 405 not 495. #fatfingers

Bullshit. If he did then he should be the record holder. SMFH at the crap people like you post. Do you really believe the shit you post?

It was 8 plates. My bad on the math.

Ozninjaguy's picture

It's ok...next time I'm going for a PB...I want you there to record it, it will make me look awesome...lol...take care there. +2 for being honest.

Zalewski's picture

Wouldn’t it be funny if this dude just happen to workout with some animal of a former lifter who just never wanted to compete. Shit if I saw Bill Kazmaier I bet the dude could still put up crazy shit even at 66

Ozninjaguy's picture

Yes mate, it's possible, but I don't think anyone who has pressed/lifted world record breaking amounts, or close to them, would just stay mum about it and train anonymously....I wouldn't.

ECinfidel's picture

Haha yeah man. I'll have you in the books in no time.

press1's picture

Bloody hell really?! I thought 50 was around the ceiling for lifting that kind of weight if you are also REALLY strong Lol but just goes to show. You are gonna have to go on a secret mission and find out his cycle man!

Crumpets? I love them. especially with some Vegemite or Peanut Paste (Peanut Butter for the heathens) on them. The local supermarket had a few pacs - I bought them all, now no stock for the last 3 months..one of the many downsides of living 3rd world.

press1's picture

You been nicking everyone's bit of crumpet Oz ...... LMFAO

press1's picture

That's so funny as I was about to put with 'Marmite' on top also but I thought you would have no idea what that is - but of course your version is Vegemite isn't it! Lol Virtually everyone I know hates the stuff but I love it :-) Great on toast too.

Ozninjaguy's picture

Yep, I have been known to indulge in a little crumpet...lol. I know Marmite, not too keen on it, but like Vegemite and another one called Promite. Brought back 6 bottles of each when I went to Oz in Feb. Should last me a few weeks ;-)

ECinfidel's picture

No ones talking shit, mate. I hit the 9 instead of the 0. Fat fingers make for bad math my man.

ECinfidel's picture

Yeah man. I dont know his exact age, but he's definitely mid 50s at least, Looks in terrible shape( old powerlifter), and can for sure get under it.

press1's picture

Nice, real nice - Wish I could bloody do it Lol

I've been gym training for 38 years now. I miss the energy, strength and size that some good gear can give you. But I had to give that stuff up, and when I did, I got depressed at the changes in my body. That's when I understood guys who blast and cruise....we have worked hard and don't want to see it go away.

Sometimes, when I'm in the gym struggling to bench a weight that I used to curl, I wonder what's the point? I think that I should just give it all away....but I can't. It has been so much a part of my life for so long, that I think I would be doing myself a disservice in a way.

Then I look at a mate of mine who is 6 months younger than me, grossly obese, and has advanced diabetes. A couple of months ago he fell over and broke his hip and shoulder - now he walks with a limp and a cane. I don't want to be like that.

I came through ICU a few years ago, andI believe it was because I was physically fit and healthy. So when I get my down moments, I think of the heart health benefits, and other benefits including maintaining muscle and bone strength, as well as physical flexibility. Then there is the added bonus of ego and aesthetics - people still complement me, and that provides that extra encouragement to continue.

That was the long answer. The short answer is: for as long as I physically can.

press1's picture

Nice one Buddy - Glad to hear it :-)))

You have to think how much better you feel after a workout and overall too, which I guess you must be really noticing atm. To me that simply Awesome feeling you get after a good & enjoyable session simply cannot be got any other way - No other form of exercise or drug can replicate it, or not one that I've found yet anyway LOL ....

Agreed. I am sorely missing that feeling.

Training till I drop. Juicing until about 50. Then just a little trt and cialis.

sunamcaxa's picture

quick question

would you come off to get your wife pregnant or try while juicing?
Im 28 and I feel like I dont recover well from cycles even after pct, Im thinking to start trt but Im aware that I won’t have kids in few years if I dont do pct.

what are your thoughts on this?

Bearded_muscle's picture

If you’re lower on funds keep HCG in year round low dose, or alternate between hcg while blasting and clomid while you’re off. If money isn’t an issue alternating hcg and hmg is probably the best way to protect fertility. 75 iu hmg twice a week, and 250 iu hcg twice a week, not together. So Monday hcg, Wednesday hmg, Friday hcg, Sunday hmg... etc.

That is what I would do

Sorry, didn’t quite answer the first bit, yes I would come off completely. Anything I could do to get that fertility up. I’d probably add hgh during this time to protect muscle and hopefully help with the restart.

I see myself training as long as I'm breathing. Been doing this already 20+ yrs.

Until the day I can’t stand naked in the mirror, flex, and say to my wife, “oh yea, look at this” albeit the focus may be on my nuts banging my knee caps, but regardless.
