+ 1 Bummed out, and back injury again

ad

I will repeat my history. Was in a bad car wreck. Hurt my back. It accelerated disc degeneration. I've had l4/l5 surgery. I still have a few bulging discs. Most of the time since I've got into shape I have been basically pain free. I I've had sciatic pain foot drop all the fun stuff.

During my cycle my back went out. I missed a week of gym. I was still in pain but I was able to work out. It took the last month of my cycle to recover. 2 weeks later in my first week of pct, and my back went out this morning letting my dog outside.... There is clearly something going on so now I am going to call my ortho and demand an mri.

Now fine I have pain, a I'll get over it but what really has me down is that I took this week off from all exercise. To my own fault, but even stretching my back which has I did daily. So now I'm playing the "if" game... If I went to the gym this would have happened. If I didn't let my dog out this wouldn't have happened.

Now what has me super bummed is that I may not be able to hit the gym next week and I feel like my cycle is going to be all for nothing. All I know is I have some serious core work to do before my next cycle assuming nothing is seriously wrong with me. I'm sure being in the first time week of my PCT hold have something to do with the sadness I feel but honestly I have had enough. I. Can't take pain meds. I ibprofren doesn't touch the pain so I deal with it. I feel like I'm doing just fine on PCT so I doubt it's that.
This blows

Hey brother try getting some ibuprofen liquid gels and poke a whole in the tabs and let the liquid drain in a small container. Get some skin lotion and mix it with the ibuprofen. You want the mixture to be thick like the lotion was originally. I have back problems and this remedy has helped a lot. Yours are obviously more serious so I would start out with 3 or 4 gel tabs. Rub the mix on your troubled areas until it's absorbed in the skin. Try that out and see if it helps brother. They make a ibuprofen cream in the uk and I ordered it off amazon but still haven't even used it because this remedy is effective. Its called ibuleve but like I said I haven't even opened it so I can't say how effective it is. Good luck

I know what your talking about mate ive got a lot of back issues on going had microdiscectomy on L5 S4, my disc herniated and ruptured a week or so into a bulking cycle giving me serious pain down back of my right leg.... 9 months post op now, did a "recovery cycle" we will call it and im in my last 5 days of pct and i feel lousey again now and am medded up like a space cadette and im sick now, nearly collapsed in the pub the other week and all i did was turn to a mate, had to grab a table so i never went down, my left legs now got sciatica, i get pins and needles down both my legs intermittantly and another knock on effect is i now have scoliosis (think thats the spelling) in upper back and muscle spasms in that area aswel as in my left butt cheek.... Too much to write here and now but it is dis-heartening when all you want is to be fit and reach your goals but have to tip toe around an injury and a bad back is pretty debilitating and i feel you there... I do still try for 3-4 gym seshions a week and some home workouts also but pain is a constant factor, also got instability of the spine on the area i had the op which has caused a bone spur which is impinging a nerve, going to see a neurologist mid july and have 6 months of intensive PT which will be starting soon as i get my slot.... Bummer bro.
Feel free to PM me about anything mate if i can draw some clarity in any way or advice, info ill help as best i can, thumbed up your post as i can relate to it, ive got 2 dogs myslf and sometimes my back goes funny when i walk them as they pull sometimes (there quite strong) but they must be ran/walked and there my dogs.
And the pain killers (opiate based) dont do anything for my type of pain bro just make me feel shit, i take nerve suppresants (gabbapentin) diazepam, ibuprofen and codeine only when needed and basically so i can sleep.....amitriptyline gave me bad sides, dihydocodeine sent me to another realm and backlofen also gave me sides... Bad head aches and twitching eyes lol.... Sick of seeing GPs, physiotherapists, neuro surgeons, neurologists and im awaiting a full spine MRI scan as ive only had a lower lumber MRI scan to see whats happening on the whole.... When on cycle i felt much better but it didnt cure it just helped with strength and mind set, i welcomed this.
Another surgery might have to be and if this is the case it would be spinal fusion :/
Good luck bro Smile
Peace

Damn bro sounds like you have been there and done that. Sorry to hear I hope it gets better for you and you get relief. I've had discectomy and laminectomy on l4/l5. I've been doing some research and I think my current issue has something to do with my sacroiliac joint. I saw a video on YouTube that describes my exact pain and location. It's been the same the past few times. My back as far as disc pain goes it seems ok. This is different than my normal back pains for sure. Can't wait for my appointment so I can demand an mri.

I'm with you.. Bad backs suck ass. It's why I stayed unfit for years I was always afraid of ruining it more until I realized I was only ruining myself.

Shit happens ey mate just got to keep your chin up. I was very fit did a lot of jogging hard terrain, cycling, football and weights which i think was a large portion to blame for my injury always pushed my body hard and it let me know, youve no doubt been through the wars yourself and you just got to stay positive, always keep pushing the powers that be to get yourself an MRI scans and such as you get nowhere at least with my neuro surgeon/GPs without as you say basically demanding what you need.
Im no surgeon but i know enough and was told by the head physio at my hospital that the disc "had no impact absorbing effect as it was flattened" and " it has no use being there" which connotated IMO he thought spinal fusion was the best bet ( he also discussed it with me with microdiscectomy) if you like so i think it should have been done in the first place and its just sonething i have to live with.
Hope you the best mate keep the faith and do as you can its all you can do.
Peace mate

Thanks man. I will do that! This shit sucks. I usually throw it out once maybe twice a year. It's already been 3 times since december.

fuck man, that blows so hard, if you've toughed it out this long you're one tough nut! I'm sure your cycle won't be for nothing! rest easy brother, hope you sort out your back, definitely sounds as if something is amiss!

Thanks! I don't have much of a choice to tough it out. I'm scared to death of taking a pain killer in fear it's going to suck me in all over again. I believe I'm past that part of my life but it's a risk I'm just not ready to take. I have to accept at some point I'm going to need pain medication.

I have an appt in the upcoming days with my orthopedic. I'm demanding an MRI.
