Vent Session - Back Pain

ad

Sorry, I just have to vent because I think I might be having a rage moment. Some may remember almost 3 weeks ago I hurt my back and was debating coming off the cycle. Well, a week went by and I started to feel better, not perfect but good enough. I went to the gym every day, had some killer workouts. Slight back pain, no biggie. Everything was going ok.

This past Monday I felt pain free so I decided to give lower back extensions a try on the machine, which is part of my normal back routine. I used 1/4 of the weight I normally use, felt no pain. Woke up Tuesday, achey but again, no big deal. I hit the gym hard. Did fine. I ice'd my back when I got to work shortly after and it's all been down hill since. I have an office job, I sit down alot when at work and it's the worst misery. All the pressure is put on the lower back. I decided it was time for the chiropractor. I went there, got some electrical stimulation and some adjustements. Felt pretty good.

Wed (yesterday) went to the gym, felt great. Kicked ass working my bi's/tri's. Got to work, used heat instead. Felt ok for half day. Then I spirals. The muscle that has been giving me trouble started tightening up again, I was having sharp pain from sitting down. So, when I finally got home I just chilled out on the couch and I was ok. I decided Wed night (last night) I was going to skip the gym thursday. Good thing I did!

I woke up this morning in agony. Such a deep aching and limiting movement. I took some advil so I feel much better. It's just the aching/cramping from no movement all night.

What's my problem? Well, I don't know which muscle it is but the pain basically starts mid to high on my left ass check and goes into the lower back. My chiro called it the Piriformis syndrome. I had this a few years ago ten times worse and it was the same thing and this same chiro worked on my for a couple weeks and finally got that fucker to loosen up. I do have herniated discs which really don't cause me pain. I've been through that type of pain so I'm 100% confident I'm not dealing with disc pain. This is very specific when it's not radiating into my hammy. Simply put, my left side is very tight.

You may be wondering, how did I get so fucked up with my back? About 15 years ago, I was at a red light in my car when an 18 wheeler blew a red light coming toward me, he swerved to avoid the car going through the green light. Tipped over and basically landed on the hood of my car. You can see the tire imprint on the hood in the photos we took. While under the tire, we got pushed backwards about 100 feet until we were spit out from under and spun around facing the traffic behind us. Lucky to have walked away!!!! But not without a price.

Anyway, If you have actually made it this far in the post. Am I being a complete idiot by continuing to go to the gym? today is week 10 of my cycle. I honestly do not want to stop. I want to work through it. NO PAIN NO GAIN!!!!!!!!!! I'm a stubborn ass and in this is a perfect example of why, also in the most literall sense! I lost a week at the gym. No biggie. I miss today, no biggie. I can make up for it over the weekend. Ok, sorry, I actually feel better to get that out. I hate this feeling. The feeling of my body not being able to keep up with my mind, that fire that burns within me to give it everything I have.

My chiro told me I had piriformis, chiros can be retarded. Go see an actual doctor and get MRI. I did, and had a fractured vertebrae. Got 2 back surgeries and life is better.

I know this is a no no but I researched it and I would says he's dead on. I've had back surgery, I've had foot drop and weakness due to sciatic the this is so different if you were looking at the front of my body my left hip is so much higher.. Caused by muscle tightness. The adjustments feel great but I ache bad the next day. I guess that's normal though from research I mean he is tweaking me pretty good lol.

I had the same issue, it presents as piriformis in most cases even if its not. MRI will let u know for sure, so why not? Hope you get some relief bro.

my lumbar region has been really bad lately. so bad ive been cutting out early on boxing and a few other things. turns out, its from my chair at home, i use for the computer

ive got the same issue with my piriformis, theres really not much you do, for me I do some stretchig when it is bothering me and I would reccomend staying away from any deadlifts.

I feel your frustration bro! Ill be standin there and have stabbig pains that shoot straight down my entire leg that practically put me to the ground. Also I find a hot bath(no bubbles no homo) helps a lot when its irritated.

I want bubbles!!!!!! I def. don't do deadlifts, I hurt it a few weeks ago doing squats which I never do. dumb dumb.

I stretch every day but right now it's so friggen tight stretching just irritates it. I have a chiro appt this afternoon. I can't wait to get some elec stim! I might try the bath thing tonight, but WITH BUBBLES! and flowers. LOL

I wonder if I should go to the chiro on a regular basis. Once a month or whatever to have adjustments. I think one of my issues is when I feel this way, then get adjusted, I end up hurting more because I'm not use to getting tweaked like that. But man it feels so good!!!!!!!!

I actually had surgery on my l4/l5 (diskectomy) to relieve sciatic nerve compression.

I personally would take a few days off. It sounds like you take a day off, it starts to heal, you then bother it and it starts up again. Start taking IB profin, maybe the antiinflamatory effects will help. IB profin ususally takes around 48 hours of consistent taking to get the full effect, so make sure to keep up with that. I'd also do some very light static stretching to warm that area up. try stretching that area 3 times a day for roughly 5-10 minutes....if your at your office job make sure to get up and move around occasionaly so your back doesnt stiffen.... Take a warm epsin salt bath to soak your body. Better take a few days off then being hurt and being forced to take a huge lay off. I know it sucks, but sometimes you need to listen to your body. Your body gives you wanring signs for a reason, no pain no gain is great for when working out, not so much for when an injury is occuring....

I've been taking too much anti-inflams, heating, walking, stretching, muscle relaxers. I actually feel better on days I go to the gym..until I sit down for a while and cramp up. It's crazy because I feel zero pain when I'm working out.
