+ 1 Starting to lose hope

ad

In February I had a lumbar MRI which turned out to be 3 disks where I had bulging and/or herniation.

Then a few months back I had the MRI on both shoulders which I posted and they weren’t to good.

Now I had a cervical MRI because the pain is getting unbearable and now I received the reports and it says There is severe stenosis of the proximal right neural foramen as well as a bunch of other shit. I been dealing with it for a while and I lost some confidence in doctors because they love cutting but a few guys in here made me realize I was incorrect. Now they are talking surgery and I swore I would never do surgery on my neck or back. Do I keep being a stupid brute and push till it possibly sidelines me or do I consider surgery which could sideline me for good or get the surgery with the hopes I can be pain free and continue doing what we do.

Swank over Cherry lol Hustler was OG and top echelon of porn mags back in those days

JakeKO's picture

I never saw a swank mag. Cherry was the best we would shoplift, LOL

Cherry was just raunchy loved it. Hustler was a little classier not much but just a little. Swank was like the skanky biker chicks.

I have a serious dislike and trust issues with doctors as well. Long story but went to NHSS 15 or so years ago. Best doctors in the world it is said. Misdiagnosed the reason for my symptoms which resulted in the spinal stenosis progressing to the point where it basically killed off the nerves in my left calve and hamstrings. I now have drop foot and walk with a limp. They say surgery is iffy at this point because damage has been done. Hoping I could still walk in 10 years. Anyway, I wish I was offered the surgery before it was too late.

Damn brother sorry to hear that. I’m going to do everything possible to avails surgery. Lots of quality PT if possible. I have a friend who is a Pro Bodybuilder and he did a procedure where they sedate you and realign all your bones and he was in pain for a few weeks after but felt like a new man once the pain subsided. I’m not a 100% on what it’s called. I’m sure some of you guys would know.

Spinal Fusion? Rod placement?

In a promo × 1
Musclemem's picture

I don’t think I would do that. No fusion. I know two people one being my dad both wished they wouldn’t have had the fusion surgery. I’m hoping there is some PT that could help or artificial disks maybe injections. Something that will be less traumatic than a fusion I also want another radiologist to look at my mri pics

I don't blame you with not going for fusion....they fused the bones together and it's done deal ..muscle atrophy eventually sets and never ever the same, but then again what's the other side.....truly is a catch 22/double edged sword bro. I'm with you on getting another opinion, shit 2 or 3 more if I were you

I have 2 more scheduled than done PT, Acupuncture, plus good PT. Hope it works then I will take it from there. No rush for cutting me like a thanksgiving turkey.

Not offering medical advice just my experience. Went in to doctor about a continuing pain in hip and little in lower back . Moved forward with back surgery based on doctor’s recommendation stating that if I was going to do it should be completed earlier in my life because healing would be easier. At this point the pain was in my hip and he stated it would help get mobility back and decrease pain so I was all for it.

Immediate and last results were my Hip pain persisted after surgery never got better but now I started getting Sciatica (Which never happened before surgery) Fast forward 10 years I still got a painful, mobility loss hip and a terrible back.

Hindsight 20/20 I should have gotten another opinion and done more research on my own of possible outcomes. My suggestion would be get some different looks from other doctors and explore whatever option you feel has best benefit /cost analysis

I wish you nothing but good luck and health!

Onetime my father had the same exact experience. I’m seeing a top doc to see what he says. I’m also reaching out to an excellent physical therapist to see what he thinks. I think I will try the PT first regardless of what the surgeon says because I have a mindset that the spine is still a mystery to doctors to some extent. Sorry to hear you went through that shit.

Yeh that has to be ruff. I survive work outs on sure will and Aleve lmao

It looks to me buddy like if you don't get the surgery things will carry on getting worse anyway, but if you get the surgery then there is a chance you can get better. You need to weigh up the pro's and con's of each scenario and how you think things will go with either once you are 2 years down the line from now. I have not been in this position before so can't give any advice really Scratch one-s head Awful situation to be in

I have an appointment with the NY Giants surgeon Monday. We will see.

Definitely get a second opinion, but if they both say the same thing, don’t drag your feet about it, and get the surgery.

Musclemem's picture

Jake my plan is 3 opinions then I will weigh the risk versus reward and take it from there. Maybe do some serious PT to see if I can get some relief.

Your doctor will have the best advise. Go for the sure thing. That way you can be in the gym again

Musclemem's picture

Yeah I guess I will. I’m going to get multiple opinions and first see if physical therapy is an option. Spinal shit scares me.
