-4 3 Questions you should ask yourself.

ad

Before you even consider buying a gym membership, Before you buy those gym close.

And defiantly before you consider AAS.

Ask yourself three questions.

1.Can I do 30 correct push ups without stopping?

2.Can I do 3 unassisted pull ups?

3.Can I run a mile without stopping?

If your answer is not yes to all of these questions, in my opinion you are wasting your time and money.

Being able to do the push ups , shows the muscular endurance and core strength for that particular muscle group necessary to lift weights correctly for at least an hour, i.e. bench press etc

The pull ups represent your ability to handle your own body weight of course ,but more over your bodies muscular endurance in parallel to your body weight. Meaning is it even gonna show when you build muscle? Are you even gonna be able to work that muscle group correctly for an hour?

Being able to run a mile with out stopping, represents your cardiovascular endurance of course. And It really does not matter how quickly you run the mile, it matters if you can do it without sopping and I do not mean on a tread mill. I mean in real time. Again it shows your cardiovascular endurance which will help you immensely in being able to last at least an hour in the gym , but it also shows your thresh hold for pain.

The above list represents the lowest standards, in my opinion that is.

I hope this helps everyone who is just getting started, and maybe a few who are not making the proper progress.

Bullshit. Plenty of seniors, including my old folks, visit the gym to stay active.

XmadXscientist's picture

Maybe you should ask yourself what button spellcheck is before creating some hate...

I didn’t read past the second set of judgement, people avoid gyms because of this shit.

z1blastomatic's picture

damn i did strike a nerve.

I had no intentions of creating hate man, or making people avoid the gym. Quite the opposite, i am suggesting people work out on there own, build a base .

Then hit the gym.

I realize I should have worded this post differently, or maybe not worded it at all.

But then again its just an opinion, there is more then one way to skin a cat. My bad on the spelling.

XmadXscientist's picture

No came off arrogant and your follow up doesn’t change anything. The gym is for building a base. Maybe try creating an air of acceptance instead of judgment?

Based of your statements someone who is grossly overweight should what jog up and down their stairs until they’re of acceptable body shape, then join the gym? Fuck that! You think they want to be in an atmosphere like yours? How about give good to get good? Create an air of acceptance and encouragement because it’s hard to make that leap.

You are correct in that you shouldn’t have worded this at all.

vhman's picture

Maybe you could sell membership contracts to Plant Fitness, with all this acceptance talk. You’d do well! ;-)

XmadXscientist's picture

Na they don’t let me in there anymore due to some intimidation rule ;)

Johnny Bravo's picture

I went in there with my coworker the other week and the manager came up to me and told me I’m not allowed to do supersets. Just blew my mind they would stoop that low

vhman's picture

Where will you get your pizza and donuts now!?!

XmadXscientist's picture

Seriously though that’s a real thing? I really wasn’t allowed into one of those places, they told my friend she had to leave animals at home.

vhman's picture

It’s real and it’s delicious!

XmadXscientist's picture

If it wasn’t almost 100 degrees where I’m currently working I would rock some sweatpants and a sweatshirt, then infiltrate that place and eat it all!

XmadXscientist's picture

Dammit now I kind of want to get dominos to drop that shit off!

z1blastomatic's picture

Grossly over weight, now your kind of putting words in my mouth bro.

what in the hell is so wrong, with a little self motivation coupled with training your core and getting used to handling your own body weight before you pick up weights and throw a hernia.

XmadXscientist's picture

Hmm clearly you don’t get it. Thought maybe you would get a hint since no one else is endorsing you. Oh well if you wish to go full douche who am I to deny you?

Gymjunkie01's picture

z1blastomatic's picture

you expect me to go along with everyone, just to score points. No thats is why this country is in the politically correct pit oh hell. I am not being a douche , i am simply laying out my opinion dude.

It was my job for 8 years to motivate and physically train people, you cant be afraid to step on someones feelings. Its not about how can I help them, its about how can I help them help there self.

XmadXscientist's picture

No dude you’re just an asshole that is all, nothing to do with going along with others, I am not a fan of that either but I don’t go shitting on people who are not as far along as me.

Maybe you should check your own feelings there kid?

Thanks, I’ve had a lot of help forging that mentality over the years.

People have different goals and doing those as minimum to get a gym pass is way off. Now aas ?? I know guys who never run and are sub 10%. I would add diet to ur thread also plenty of time and money. Remember to be humble like jameshobbis said u need to start somewhere

z1blastomatic's picture

your right.

Not everyone is looking to get shredded , some are just after size or strength.

I have another thread mentioning time and money.

Jameshobbis's picture

You also shouldn't start a cycle if you are 185lbs at 15% body fat!! Set your self a solid base. It is easy to do these things when you are that light!

Im 205 now. But your right I have learned some hard lessons since joining.

Jameshobbis's picture

That's good mate this is why we are all here. Live and learn and try to stop others from making the same mistakes.

Jameshobbis's picture

So you shouldn't get a gym membership unless you can do them things? Everyone has to start somewhere and that is what the gym is there for....... it's there to help everyone better themselves no matter what ability, experience or age you start from!

Now i do think that you should be at or near your physical peak before starting aas but this statement above I really don't agree with. I know guys strong as hell that can bench press 4 plates aside for 12-15 but ask them to run down the street or do more than 5 pull ups and they will look at you and laugh haha

No hard feelings but I’ve got to give this -2

I know a guy who benches near 600 lbs and can’t do one pull-up. Bodyweight exercises can sometimes be more challenging for a newbie than a gym. If you don’t beleive me try a pistol squat. I ageee on the hormone use but not the gym..

z1blastomatic's picture

Im sorry neg me if you need to , but that is my whole point. Great you can lift 600 lbs, but you cant do one pull up. The gym is filled with dudes like that, no offense to anyone as I assume I have hit nerve with a few of you guys. How can some one be that unbalanced, If you can get to that level of pressing, then whats a few pull ups.

Just an opinion. I guess its my military service talking , but when I was a private my team leader didn't let me touch weights, until my PT score was at least 280.

Sam I Am's picture

I don’t bench anywhere near six hundred pounds and I do pull ups and chin ups often. Power lifting consists of bench, squats and dead lifts. A lot of those guys don’t train for pull-ups. Many intentionally gain weight to improve there max? Your telling me they shouldn’t use drugs? Basic training is geared towards endurance and general conditioning not strength. I’d wager Eddie Hall isn’t a pull-up or running king but he’s the strongest man in England.

He’s fat as fuck but dead lifted 1125lbs.Get you some of that.He is also a very nice guy.Zvickus probably can’t run a mile either but has won eight worlds strongest man.Different strokes. The op needs to understand not everybody agrees with his goals.
I have a friend like this guy he’s always talkin shit about guys at the gym that don’t bodybuild but whines when my friend who just went pro bust on his abs.Go figure!

Gymjunkie01's picture

I can bench 540 1 rep but I can’t do 3 pull-ups clean

I struggle to do 5 body weight dips but Machine pulldowns I do 300 pounds like it's 5.

Sam I Am's picture

Your a strength athlete. There’s a ton of 120 lb guys that can do 30 but can’t bench 135. Very few guys your weight can do pull-ups. Your a massive guy.

Absolutely, great place to learn from others, especially as far as lifting and heavy compound movements, everyone just starting needs some level of help with proper form and technique - hell even guys been doing it awhile need reminded sometimes.

X2. Gyms work for all levels of fitness. Planet Fitness would be a poor choice for me but would be great for my neighbor..

Planet fitness probably lock the door they see your Mack truck looking ass walking up, lol. And I mean that in the best possible way Smile

IrishMack's picture

I just pull into the parking lot and they shut the lights off then put up the closed sign.....at 5pm.

herpjunkie111's picture

Some people I work with go to PF. Apparently their motto is no "muscle heads", which I take to mean nobody that takes lifting seriously, they just want to do the minimum there and have a safe space where they can feel good about doing so I guess.

IrishMack's picture

They have muffin Mondays, pizza Fridays, a d big jars of candy and chocolate right when you walk through the door. It's great marketing. If you keep your clientele overweight and tell them it's ok you have members for life.
