Low BUN/Creatinine ratio
ad
Just got labs back, and was curious if a strongman competition 2 days before blood work could affect the BUN/creatinine ratios. I am sure I was dehydrated, but not sue if that could be the cause. BUN and creatinine were both in normal range. RBC was slightly elevated @ 5.9, hematocrit and hemoglobin were with in range. Cycle looked like...
-went from TRT @ 200/week to
350mg TestsE/week for weeks 1-5
weeks 3-5 of Alpha 1 Max @ 40mg/week
Labs were done on week5
Also ran a 6 week cycle of Halodrol 7 weeks prior to the start of this last blast.
So it was...
6 week blast
7 week cruise
5 week blast, then blood work.

Your BUN/Creatinine levels should be increased do to the increased protein synthesis from the dietary protein and the breakdown of muscle tissue, especially after an event like that. For women with a BUN/Creatinine level of 15 it's supposed to indicate impaired renal function. This doesn't take into account bodybuilders and athletes. My levels are always around 19-21 and it's fine. Most males sit around the high end of the normal range and bodybuilders/strongmen and athletes would be in the 20-30 range. If you have low levels then there is another issue that should be addressed with your provider.
RustyhookerWhats your protein intake like?
@ 200lbs body weight, I eat about 300 grams of protein a day. My BUN and Creatinine were within normal ranges, but my BUN/Creatinine ratio was low.
What was the ratio?
The ratio was 8. BUN was 10(6-20 is "normal") and creatinine was 1.21(.76-1.27 is "normal)
Yeah, the "normal" ranges are for the average person, these ranges aren't for heavy lifters and athletes. I wouldn't be too concerned if these are normal for you and since you compete in strongmen comps, it explains a lot.
RustyhookerTrippy. Usually folks are having high ranges because our protein rich diets. Drinking lots of fluids helps
Yeh even without lifting, diet alone would increase these levels especially 300g of protein a day. That's alot of work for the kidneys to do
