Big calves

ad

I'm relatively new to the forum. One of my biggest concerns is staying slender and not bulking too much. My calves are what I worry about the most. I think they are quite big as it is and don't want them getting bigger. I feel like any weight no matter how small or how many reps I do, they get bigger! Any suggestions? Thanks

These are hilarious responses! I am a girl by the way Smile

Then probably best we don't swap on second thoughts. I'm sure the hairy calves of a 280lb man wouldn't look too hot on you........

lol I'm thinking not Smile

I have no doubt there are dudes that are into that sort of thing. Smile

Depends how much test you're running. Start going past 1.5g/wk and everything looks worth a pop......

It is funny how we will pick out the one good thing about any woman and say.."hmm, maybe",lol

That's so very true.

Well I do 100 reps with heavy weight every time I walk in the gym before my workout, & still not much growing going on, I hate you man!

Spend more time on your glutes and no one will notice your calves.

Must be nice man.... Only feedback I can provide lol

Don't work them then.

X2.

Or you can swap yours for mine. My calves are utter shit.

Mine look worse because my quads are my strongest body part. Average calves with big quads aren't a great look :(

Right there with you bro. But theyve been improving tremendously with a somewhat unorthodox approach. Most of us tryn and hit them 3 times a week. I can't take credit for this my coach gave me the workout but he told me to put 1 45 on the seated calf raise machine and do 10 sets to failure. It's high ass reps and it hurts like a bitch but I added like a half inch the first month doijg it. Only once a week and believe me you'll be feeling it for atleast 5 days after. You're a lot bigger then I am so maybe put max 90lbs something where you can get 30-40 reps every set and give it a shot for a month. It's been working really well for me as opposed to the 3 times a week switching exercises an reps etc.

That's a similar approach to what I've been using lately. 1 minute sets, so I guess 40-50 reps of fairly light weight, usually a couple of plates as you suggested bizarrely enough. It's the one area I've always taken criticism for on stage and I'm determined not to hear it this year Smile

It's weird but it works. I used to do like 5 sets Monday standing raises high reps weds 5 sets seated low reps Friday superset standing and seated or 1 leg standing or seated and they grew slower then a snails pace. Started hitting them like that once a week and they're growing. Or maybe it's just the shock to them? Maybe that's the secret? Every 3-4 weeks totally change everything and shock the shit out of them. Idk those of us (mostly tall guys) who god blessed with high insertions most likely will never have impressive calves. But I will make them somewhat respectable in time.

Catalyst's picture

That's true about taller guys. Midgets benefit on the calves front, no doubt about it. I guess it's due to the fact that they have to stand on tip toes to reach everything at normal height? Where's Rusty, he'll clear that up ;)

The odd thing for me is my calves are real strong, they just don't look it.

Pale's picture

I hate mine too. Per Vikings instructions I have been working them nearly every day. I am seeing a little progress but I can see this is going to take awhile if ever to get what I want out of them.

Speaking of shorts. So yesterday I am wearing my favorite pair of camp shorts, I have had them for probably two years now so they aren't new but I knew my legs were getting tight in there. So I go to jump up into my (censored) and as I am pulling myself up into the seat the sumbitches just exploded. Not a little rip, it was like I turned into the incredible hulk! lol. I am depressed.

Pale's picture

LMAO! I would really like to have slow motion and sound effects for such an event. On a side note I don't have a single button down shirt that fits me right now, lol.

Makwa's picture

Once your socks explode then you know your calves are up to par.
