First day training today after 3 months off...
Hi all,
Hope the summer is treating you well!
I was recently (3 months ago) made redundant from my job and had a load of crap to deal with (new home, new job etc) and so decided to give training a rest until I had everything sorted.
I'm sat here about to walk out the door after taking my oats, eggs and BCAAs but I'm wondering how to go about doing this in the gym.
I don't have any injuries (had a bit of a tendon issue about 6-8 months ago in my wrist which is no longer an issue) and I'm wondering... go heavy on core muscles (chest, back, quads) for some shock treatment or take it slow and do full workouts with less weight?
Never really had a break before but I just want to get back into things asap. Diet isn't all that right now but it will be once I require those extra nutrients. It's all planned.
It's just the approach to training after a 3 month break that I'm concerned about.
Thanks for reading

slow and light
I actually have another question relating to this... my new job sees me working 2 x 12 hour shifts, 2 x 12 hour night shifts and then 4 days off.
Training on my working days is possible if I can fit it all in on an hour lunch break but any thoughts on only training on the 4 days off at an increased training time?
Normally I would spend around 45 minutes in the gym on a lunch hour. Is 1.5 - 2 hours a good idea on my days off only (no training on working days)?
"Over training" gets thrown around a lot these days but I do want to put the work in... just don't want to injure myself before I even begin.
Thanks again.
Read up on Arthur Jones training methods. It's a full body work out.I've been doing it the last 2 years with good results. The workouts take 35 to 45 minutes.
AnonSlow and steady buddy, going too heavy too fast is asking for injury. You wil be back on point in no time
Well that was tough. Just did 3 sets of 3 (flat, incline, decline) and couple of set of bicep curls. The resistance of the weight is so much stronger now... obviously because I'm weaker!
Thanks for the responses... going to keep the weight manageable and do a few more reps per set.
Time to fire the barby up... I'm starving.
I find its best to do half your usual sets and do 12-15reps especially on chest day because my elbows feel as though they've ripped and torn to buggary on my first day back in the gym
Had surgery 2months ago and iv been getting back into the gym too, after two weeks of this just train normally again
I usually have to take time off due to my work schedule.Anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.I don't max out.I do reps to failure. My last break(5 weeks),I took off 5 pounds a week on the smaller muscle group exercises and 10 pounds off a week for the compound exercises.
And the reason I'm posting here is because I'm reading SO many conflicting articles! Anyone with first hand experience in this would be doing me a big favour!
