Solo or with a partner?

ad

How do you like to lift? I prefer solo. Seems easier to get in the zone, if you know what I mean.

i love lifting with a partner. but only if that partner is as hungry as i am to grow. I workout with people who challenge themselves everyday. Theres nothing like someone daring u to push past ur limits. if they are just "working out" ill lift solo all day

Thank God for this topic! I def need help with this- I've been lifting alone for the past 4 years and I'm the kind of person who prefers lifting with someone else (if they are there to work hard and not shoot the shit!). Unfortunately the city I live in has no hardcore/powerlifting gym, at least that I have discovered. On top of that the dudes that go to the gyms here tend to be a bunch of mayonase hipster candyasses that have no ediquite (they talk on their cell phones, never rerack their weights and have laughable form) or they are douchebags from the "hood" and they walk around the grimacing and ghetto ass jive talking like we all on the cell block (and yet when they lift they can't move shit for weight). I really miss the mid west!! Anyway i would like to find someone lift with but am at a loss for how to do this.... Any sugestions or am will I have to wait till I move back to chi town?

Solo all the way. I hate working out with other people unless its a hot chick, I like that! Otherwise I put in my headphones, pop a few dbol, down a pre-workout and put in work.

I hate asking for a spot so having a few hanger ons/ buddies to strip weights and spot me when I go heavy are always an asset. The problem is all the fucking chitchat if I go by myself I am done in less than an hour with one or two friends its two or 2.5 hours. So to solve this I'll only ask them to lift when I squat. Hehehe... suckers.

I do the same thing. In almost a year and half, only one person has ever said more than "how many sets you got left?" I'm sure people think I'm a dick or something but who cares, I gets mine!

In the beginning when I first started, it was important for me to have a partner, this provided me with motivation and assistance.

However, now like Monsterjuice said I prefer to go solo, less talking, less rest time, no debate about what we should do next, no waiting on them to turn up, etc.

If I do need a spot there are many people in the gym to ask.

I prefer solo to. I hate taking off weight, reputting weight on, etc. Plus it seems it's hard to ever find someone to match my intensity in the gym, so I'm always trying to get them motivated and shit. I hate the rest period inbetween, inbetween sets I'm slamming water and getting in zone for next lift, trying to stertch out cramps whatever it may be. not trying to chant "cmon on bro, you got this, trying to physce someone up." I prefer when in the gym to purely focus on me and only me, call it selfish but thats how I roll best.

Very true. I lift at a pretty erious gym and most guys all lift solo. Everyone is more than happy to jump in and spot you if you ask. Every now and then I get a buddy that wants to do a session with me and I will do it but that is rare.

On another note... I seem to get asked quite a bit by people starting out (at work or in my group of friends) if they can come lift with me. I know there is no way they are going to be able to keep up or match even 50% of my intensity. If I dont feel like shutting them down hard and tell them NO I say sure come on and we will go lift..... I then proceed to do the most violent sadistic leg workout ever, even one that leaves me limping for a few days. Needless to say they never ask to lift with me again lol. You ask them the next day or a few days later and they always have an excuse why they cant.
