Trying to help out me mum

So my mom has battled with her weight for years, I think that's one of the reasons im such a health nut ! She goes from one diet to the next never retaining any knowledge from any one of them ........ not that there is any knowledge in any of these extreme diets that she does ! lol..... but I try to educate her on how to start eating for a lifetime and not just a quick fix but for some reason she just doesn't want to listen to me .... she is very hard headed and I think its just more a matter of pride then anything ! she is around 5'3 close to 240 ide say . she also has an underactive thyroid. anyone have any advice for me? ever been in a similar situation?

terrible recommendations in this thread. hcg diet? seriously? no. take her to a registered dietician or a physician who specializes in dietetics. hypothyroid dieters run into trouble that regular overweight individuals won't, so don't leave her health up to random internet strangers.

What you could do is get her to reduce portion size slowly, incorporating healthier foods one at a time over a period of weeks, in effect allowing her to get used to it mentally without the body craving foods she has stopped eating. Without knowing how her thyroid is under active, I would go with something like sunflower seeds and red meat, they will help with the under active thyroid.

Im not sure exactly how her thyroid is under-active... Has been for a long time.. she has Hashimoto's disease... And diet plan you stated is exactly what ive been doing! And by no part 0f my own she is on a huge organic kick which has honestly helped. not her wallet but the weight loss

Sorry to hear that Warmachine, I don't know much about diseases of the thyroid so I would ignore what I wrote and speak with a health care professional, better safe than sorry. The cost of organic stuff is ridiculous, I couldn't afford it because I tend to eat far too much.

th hcg diet lol. there is a caveman diet, only eat what cavemen could, fish chicken beef fruits and vegetables. cheat once a week. after two weeks she shoukd have alot more energy. fast results come with doping per say. its ur mom stick with great motivation and healthy foods!!!

Ive been chipping away at her! one pound at a time ! lol... But yea the cave man diet is basicly how I eat... well just real shit no process garbage ya kniow

Both... She needs a diet that will give her fast results so she will have some drive.. She works out but not near hard enough I fear..

Ill try and talk her into that ! her diet ios not actually all that bad. just her portions and meal times ie how many meals a day. I cant her to eat more than 4...
