Laws to restrict/ban firearms are complete bullshit... All they do is scew the percentage of firearms in a given society that are in the possession of criminals. A lot of you make very good points on the issue. Here's my $0.02. I served in the Corps from 03-07, infantry & security forces. Combat vet. Just for a little background, wish i could be more open, but that should be enough for now. Start off with the little subject Supernova keep crankin' on. Taxes were something that were suppose to be temporarily enforced to support things like a war effort when there were extra expenses that the government needed assist paying for then they were suppose to disappear. Well like many other laws we say o.k. to thinking its a good temporary fix, they turn permanent. The power of the country lies in the People. Congress is designed to be the strongest branch of the government representing the people. I think that over many many years we've allowed these politicians to get to comfortable and pass too many things most of which we have no clue of, and it isnt going to be until we the people force them to come clean on all the over spending and everything else, or, which I most definately doubt a group of politicians get into office that plan to overhaul DC! Wont hold my breath. As far as guns and controling civilians with guns. Fucking right we better own what we do. You send some Marines in telling them there is some domestic uprising they gonna most likely just do the same as they would in any other country, believe these people are wrong for whatever reason and do there 'job.' An assault rifle aint gonna be shit to what they coming with, so to take that away wouldnt do anything but not only give the government the upper hand, but outlaws will always have a means to get people what they want. First of all, our founding fathers didn't wright up the 2 amendment just so we could skin a buck and run a trotline, the 2nd amendment or the rights to bare arms wasn't just to protect you from burglars. The 2nd amendment was meant to PROTECT THE PEOPLE FROM THE GOVERNMENT, by placing the power of the republic into the hands of the people so no governing body could take over the people. It was a security deposit. Read your history that rights to bare arms was to protect them from Europe. Obama was set to sign the UN gun treaty on july 27 that would place our "rights to bare arms" inaccordance with the UN article 15 (read that article, is not just semi autos but a total ban of all guns). Thats a loop hole that they seek to annul the 2 amendment. Congress agreed to push the debate to some point after the election. Study your history, Every nation that banned guns from its citzens ended in communism. Remember Mexico, Red china, nazi germany made citzens register there guns then a few months later ss soilders showed up on there doorsteps and ceased ALL their gun, seprated their familys and put them into constration camps. Hurricane katrina hit new orleans marshall law was declared. Troops showed up and confiscate the citzens guns and because of that they could not protect themselves from looters. When asked why the confiscation the troops replied it was just a TRAINING EXERCISE. As one man said those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.
