450 reps... sure..
I dont count sets or reps. makes no sense to me. I work till I cant. if your thinking have I done "X"..
then your body is only worried about making it to that mark.. if you dont think about it.. and think
more about how you feel.. then your better off.
( cycling means nothing)..if you on.. your going to
go farther (would be my thinking). if your off.. lower the weight an do more reps..nothing wrong
with that either..if your not getting enough food or sleep you wont grow..
Train the same way all the time. It shouldn't matter if you are bulking up or not mate. When I say train the same all the time I don't mean that you shouldn't change exercises and rep ranges to vary the stimulus. I mean train hard and consistently all the time. Diet+Rest+Training+Growth. Now the whole equatio nfalls down when one of the pieces is missing. AAS is just an addition not the be all and end all of training. IMHO
AnonWhen bulking or cutting IMO its more about diet than anything. The training is the stimulus, yes, but the diet dictates the quality of the gains. As for the training, I'm a firm believer that more is not better. I have studied and tested these theories on both myself and previous clients. A 5 x 5 routine is perfect for bulking. You need to target those white fast twitch fibers with heavy loads repping to failure in lower rep ranges. Otherwise, the motor units recruited will not provide the greatest size/strength gains. Food for thought...
i agree with full motor recruitment whether bulking or cutting. for bulking i like 4 sets heavy at 6 reps then a 5th set about 70% weight to failure
Anoni follow a very similar concept. i do my heavy sets around 4 reps on compound movements. then, i'll switch to more simplified movements for 10-12.
X2
Muscle cells are different from fat cells - thus your diet dictates whether you are 'lean' or 'bulk', and your training regimen dictates whether your muscles are strong (through strength training) or built (through muscle hypertrophy).
I agree here. I trained with 5x5 for a year and I switch to fst-7 style of training about 6 months ago. Strength training is plainly for power lifer and hypertrophy is alot more for bodybuilding. I completely dropped my ego at the gym and now lift for the PUMP but I still lift heavy but alot of drop sets and super sets.
TronIf I am bulking i go heavy as shit for my first major compound movement such as bench for chest or squats for legs. On bench i go 2 warm ups and then 4 sets of the heaviest weight i can handle for 4-6 reps. following that i will do a couple different excercises containing 6-8 reps and like to finish up with burnouts or drop sets containing high reps to polish the pump at the end. this has proven effective for my body but others may get better results from staying heavy the whole workout. so my set total is usually about 15 or so resting 60-90 seconds between.
I go by feel but larger groups 15-20 sets and smaller 5-12. I also hit each body part every 4-6 days though. I go by feel most times.
