hand placement

ad

Didn't really know how to keep the title short so I just put that

Where do you put your hands on the barbell in relation to the grooves and how tall are you? Do you push up with the bottom of your palm?

im 6'2'' but my wing span is 6'4'', i grab the bar with as wide a grip as the bar stands allow

Just outside shoulder width is a good starting position. You can adjust from there to your comfort zone or to emphasize inner/outer pecs, triceps. If power lifting a wider hand position means less distance to travel to a full lift. There are lots of reasons for different hand placement.

Im just trying to get past this plateau. I think you posted a link to a site that said to work on getting it so your pointer finger is on the smooth grooves. Not to do it at once but gradually

Sometimes to go forward you need to move back a little, or even sideways. LOL ;-P
I don't know what you do now, but you could just change the order, hit upper pecs first for a couple weeks, or switch over to DBs. Go to X-reps, drop set, statics, negatives or rest pause to stress em a different way a couple weeks and get you moving again.

Oh ya, my bad, talking about the bench press. So where do you place your hands and how tall are you?

Im 5'8 i rarely use barbell anymore my shoulders over power my pecs i stick to dumbells mostly but i usually grip the bar to where my elbows are parallel to the ground at the bottom of my press

Im guessing your talking about bench press . I believe that its just a comfort thing the more narrow your grip the more tricep thats involved. And i was taught when pressing anything to grip with the palm and when pulling to grip in the crease of your knuckles
