+ 2 Abs/Obliques Training Advice!
Wuss up bros, so i was wondering what you guys do for your midsection (ABS/OBLIQUES), and also how many times a week you guys train them.. Well im actually trying to put on as much size till spring time so im not necessarily going for a six pack at the moment due to the fact that im eating like a beast to bulk up.. but i know its still important to train every part of your body and abs/obliques are my weakest area so was just wondering what type, how many sets, etc. exercises should i do when i train Abs/Obliques..Also how many times a weak should i be training them or what im going for at the moment???.. But yeah Mainly what im going for is to grow my abs and oblique muscles and get my core strong (under my layer of fat LOL!) so that way when i diet hard and start to slice and dice in spring my abs/obliques will be popping out. ;) ... Thanks Guys Appreciate your help!
This is my current ab/oblique routine.. (Train them 3xs a week at the moment)
20 SETS
Sit ups (on floor or decline/flat bench)- 3 sets of 50
Machine Crunches (sitting down)- 3 sets of 25-30 HEAVY REPS
Rope crunches- 3 sets of 25 HEAVY REPS, then 1 set of 50 medium heavy reps.
Side crunches (Obliques)- 3 sets of 50
Side twists with a 25lb or 45lb plate- 3 sets of 50
Leg Lifts (lower abs)- 4 sets of 20 (holding and lifting a 25lb DB with my feet)
Let me know if you guys thinl i should keep this workout or what to change etc. Thanks!

man from the look at that workout i wouldnt consider your abs week. i do about half that eod. a medicine ball on the decline sit ups gets a good stretch and contraction but best thing is fasted low intensity cardio for me. did that during the ebc and thats the first time ive ever gotten my abs to pop out
Do some heavy shit bro. It ain't (that) heavy if you can do 50 reps. Keep this workout, do it like once a week and then do some shit heavy stuff on your other ab day (if you don't have one get one). PM that guy who'll turn your abs into a chocolate bar, he sounds dope : ) Hey fitcpl2529!! Hook me up brother, I need some chocolate!
Hey bud. I don't train them at all. Your core including abs is used during all exercises and movements. I feel they get enough stimulation from that. The only exercise I do for anything in the vicinity of my core is lower back. I feel that by building up your abs and obliques this can add to gaining a blocky physique. This takes away from your taper and lessens the aapperance of shoulder to hip difference. Just my oppinion. I will probably get flamed for this but it has worked for me the last 25 years
I believe everyone is different and we all do wht works for us but i think at least twice a week is good enough i dont believe in trainin them everyday either but some ppl do n it works for em, so my point is do what works for you ya know.
Yeah thats it mate. Something to keep in mind as well. The extra work can atribute to over stimulation of the central nervouse system (over training). One of the main points I was trying to make is if you make your waist wider it will take away from the illusion of size differential between shoulders and waist. Say you build 1 inch of muscle on your obliques ( thats 1 inch bigger waist) then to maintain the same apperance you also need to put on 1 inch on your delts as well. If you know what I am saying. Plaese by no means think I am trying to shove my ideals down your throat just passing on info and experience is all. Cheers mate
I'm similar to you, I don't do a lot of ab work as I feel they get a lot of stimulation elsewhere. Whilst I don't think they're my strongest area, I don't feel as though they're a weakness either.
If I'm honest, I hate training abs. I know a lot say they hate legs, but I just don't get the same feeling of reward from an work.
1jakd_hipyThere was actually a bodybuilder I forget his name but I think he was back in the 70's or 80's who had this same philosophy. As far as bodybuilding goes I can see it if you're gonna compete because it would keep your waistline more narrow but as far as moving big weight you have to make them stronger they need to be as strong as your lower back to keep you upright especially in the squat
i train them once a week. 4 exercises for abs, and 2 exercises for obliques. i change up the exercises and order and sets as much as possible. thats just what works for me.
1jakd_hipyIt doesn't stay in me long enough to be unhealthy, I eat it and am immediately on the toilet shitting my brains out
LMAO! true!
i don't know but is so damn good lol
Its the worst but tastes the best. -____- (smh) LOL!!!

i'm fucking with chu ma nukka. damn, i'm craving my mother-in-law enchiladas lol. might have to visit her soon hahaha. but i hit abs eod. nothing crazy tho like 3 sets of like 30 of sit ups. but sex is the best abs work out
Lol hahaha my dam family eats those foods everyday bro, i gotta say i have some strong ass will power! Lol
Lmao in your case its a good forearm workout dont u think?;) LMAO!!!!!
Along with all the ab workouts you do, dont forget sprinting is really good for developing nice abs too.
True, ugh hate sprinting!lol
Do some hanging leg raises those are awesome for your obliques
1jakd_hipyThe windshield wiper also
Rope crunches/rope obliques! Very overlooked but bliw up your intercostals/abs tie in with serratus. Super freaky look when hard cut!
1jakd_hipyTotally agree, I tell people all the time if you want your abs to look good standing up that's how you should train them. In powerlifting we train them standing because in the squat and deadlift that's how they're used. And I promise you won't find a powerlifting who competes that doesn't have an amazingly strong core
When i was lots younger...watched rocky when he was blsdting rope in the barn before fighting the Russian. I flat jumped up and knew i wanted that freaky ribs/abs look. Lmao!
Yea i love doing rope crunches,, just gotta wait till i shredd to see the result of them.lol..thnks brotha!
Everyone wants gear tips but forgets the basics...the core. Nice reminder!
I know right, some doods still believe the gear will magicaly form them a six pack! Lol!!.
