What do add to your steamed Veggies???

ad

I'm eating frozen then steamed Veggies, snap peas, broccoli etc. and just doing that by adding a little water and a teaspoon of olive oil. I don't mind the stir fry type stuff, but broccoli is pretty sorry tasting but I want to eat more for the vitamins. Anybody have any ideas to make it taste better? without adding alot of bad calories?

You can add herbs and other aromatics to the veggies This works best with fresh herbs, but a few sprigs of rosemary or a few leaves of basil in contact with your steamed veggies will get some good flavor action. Alternately, mixing them in right after you take the veggies off the steam will let the residual heat of the veg to bring out the flavors in the herbs. Other things that work well is cooking your veggies on a bed of orange peels or lemon peels to add some citrus flavor.

Man I'm on a carb cycling diet right now so most of my meal's carbs come from vegetables. Broccoli is my main go to since for me its all about long term palatability. Therefore, I eat a shit ton of broccoli. I found a video on you tube of none other than Ronnie Coleman. He was using Molly Mcbutter cheese sprinkles on his eggs. I found it in the Kroger brand for about three bucks and that's what I use. Its not quite the same as broccoli and cheese but a heck of a lot better than eating it plain. I think it has 1carb and three calories per tablespoon. Highly recommend!

aww snap..say it isn't so...frozen are so much more convenient...
Thanks for the input, you got a link to read for the loss in nutrients on fresh vs frozen vegs?
i just posted this question to see if anyone else has info. Because what I'm getting from your comment is that frozen vs fresh is a Massive difference right? i always thought it was somewhat minimal... =/

Costco dang that's a good idea thanks! I get stuff there all the time...but I get my veggies from the regular store for some reason...I'll check it out. Yeah I agree with what your saying though...I haven't eaten canned veggies in years I do the flash frozen no additive kind. But you are 100% right about processing...Props to you Sir! About the mixing spinach & kale in a shake? I must say that's dedication brother. You sound hardcore with a little crazy thrown in LOL but no more than me...so I can dig it! (I used to do 3000 kicks a day and flip onto concrete when i was younger). But I'm gonna try this shake the next time i go ON so I'll be hungry enough to choke that shit down. Thanks for the detailed explanation bro it is appreciated.

try cooking the broccoli with peanut oil over olive oil. I use peanut oil majority of time when cooking veggies.

Fuck that, they weren't as influential as say Judas Priest but saying that they were wanting to be metal is reaching a bit. I mean now if we were talking about Quiet Riot or some other lame hair band sure. But Maiden is one of those bands that helped pave the way for what Metal is today. period.

Hmmph, ok I'll try it. It's funny how every time I'm training really hard I actually start craving broccoli which I usually gag on unless it's in cheese sauce =)

AayKay's picture

Yeah, I prolly need to start being a little more creative in the kitchen...a few moments ago i was rationalizing putting fat free BBQ sauce on my steamed broccoli LOL

monsteronjuice's picture

lol yea man when you start putting a lot of shit on your veggies you don't become any better then the fat guy who orders $15 worth of garbage and a diet coke. If you truly hate broccoli try other alternatives, spinach, kale, etc
