+ 2 Eating the right meats, sometimes the wrong way

ad

I have been reading a lot on Nutrition. I am SERIOUSLY limiting variety and I am about 3.5 weeks away from starting my first cycle, but I have been working on my diet for months. I don't go by a specific set of rules and I am about to start. I thought some of you pro's could explain the why's on what I do.

My meat Market sells meat in bulk at amazing prices. Sometimes I get exactly what you guys eat and sometimes I get whats cheapest, I am far from perfect, but I'm not stopping by Mcdonald's, but I need a few things cleared up. Its newbie/ novice questions but I have to ask.

I just bought chicken quarters, never frozen for .45 a lb . I bought 80 lbs and bagged it in 1 gallon ziplock baggies.

I just bought boneless skinless chicken breasts for 1.00 a lb. I bought 40 lbs and divided into bags.

I also bought a whole pork loin and had it cut into 1 inch pork chops for .79 a lb.

I know the dark meat chicken and pork isn't what I see. I consider my cheating on a diet to be eating a fattier meat, not eating mashed potatoes and donuts.

So here is my question. When fry eggs and eat the yoke, how much am I hurting my nutrition? I see everyone posting egg whites.

When I eat those pork chops with that fat around the edges is it really that bad since I haven't had hardly any carbs that week other than the good ones in my green veggies?

I can't eat cottage cheese. I hate it, I am looking for more and more things, but I am also buying meat in bulk to save money and get those calories.

I am lost, but being very strict compared to a normal lifestyle of bread, potatoes, and Mountain Dew.

I don't have to be spoon fed. I just wondered if anyone had anything they would like to say to me. I will continue reading your awesome diets int he meantime that I just can't get myself on.

If you reply thank you for your time. I'm learning. I have been for a long time and thank you all for the posts I have read and didn't comment on. Some were 7 years old, but still great info.

Makwa's picture

One thing you want to be careful about when purchasing meat, mostly poultry, is to make sure it isn't injected with this saltwater water solution that most cheap meats are to help make them juicy. You are buying saltwater and sometimes this can be 20%+ the weight. Also not that good for you. Ask your butcher to make sure it isn't injected with anything.

Here is a little tidbit on eggs. I won't go near store bought eggs. If you have to only cage free organic.

https://www.eroids.com/pics/there-is-a-difference-in-eggs

Pork is awesome. I purchase about 2/yr from my neighbor and help him butcher and pack it up. 1 or lambs every year also. Same with my beef. Purchase half a cow every year too and then venison makes up the rest of my red meat. Grass fed is the way to go with beef. So much better tasting and healthier. Packed with omega-3. The fat on a good grass fed cow will have a yellow tint to it. White fat bad, yellow good. Will cost more if bought in store but it is worth it.

Protein4breakfast's picture

Buying a whole cow is the way to go me and some buddies from the gym buy a few every year. The farmer up the road from me also sells entire cuts of grass fed steak for 5.99lb so I’ll buy a whole ribeye or tenderloin for 50-60 bucks depending on size. It sucks to say but I have steak about 6-7 meals per week and I’m almost getting tired of it........almost

That is defiantly the way to go. Shoot your own food and grow it.

I have a feeling if you just shot it, it's not going to grow well.

Bill1976's picture

People don’t like it when you shoot animals for food. I shot a turkey last week and everybody In the groceries store just started freaking out.

Makwa's picture

The turkeys I see in the store are already dead. They were probably more freaked out by the gun.

mindset's picture

You guys are hilarious. I'm still eating right and not to give away where I live, but the amount of deer we have here are insane. I hit at least one a year with my truck. I know a guy at the gym that had three huge deep freezers full of deer meat. He said it is lean and healthy. I don't eat it alot , but my guess on him us 11 percent and 250 easy. I guess the deer meat is working.

Greg's picture

LOL. You shoulda waited until you got it home.

mindset's picture

I'm having trouble eating. A problem I have never had. I used to be pretty fat because of it. I think Lobster is the only thing I have eaten in the last 10 days that I didn't have to force swallow. I don't know how people keep a perfect diet for the guys on here doing competitions or just very hardcore

Protein4breakfast's picture

I generally stay really hungry when I lift sometimes taking in that extra meal or two isnt easy but it becomes part of a routine. I would try eating meals at the same time every day that’s what helped me a lot. Now everyday around time for that meal my body starts to get hungry.

Thanks for the advice. Thanks to this site I have tightened up my diet a lot. i have never been a morning eater and has made me switch my time of day I work out. I just didn't have the carbs or protein pre workout I needed.

With a better diet, comes less variety, even though I have found a lot of things on this site I never thought of eating. I have been eating a couple spoons of organic peanut butter before going to the gym and its helping a lot. It may not be what I'm supposed to have, but its helping a lot.

Protein4breakfast's picture

Diet is the hardest part really. Getting into a routine really did help me start eating more especially at breakfast. I usto not be hungry for at least 2 hrs after I woke up but forced myself to eat it and after about 2 months I would be starving when I woke up. As far as what your supposed to eat and what your not I wouldn’t look at it that way. I would set a goal of calories fat protein and carb the number that you want to hit everyday and you can add in foods you like as long as your within those numbers. I’m not an expert on diet but there are a lot here

Thanks. I just started my cycle and I have ended my day at about 3600 calories, shut off my carbs at 3pm and am going to slow my cardio. If it wasn't my first cycle that was done the right way I wouldn't be so concerned. I would say my two biggest fears are my diet holding back gains and also losing my gains during Pct so trying to learn as much as I can.

0newheelup's picture

Brother im sorry but I have got to just vent.. I have to say ur name says it all.. "Mindset"! ... I see ur into ur cycle now, just weeks out from ur prp. U seemed all concerned about ur future gains, but not ur shoulder. I've seen all kinds of members giving u advice to slow ur roll but ur Mindset. Ur maxing out cable weight machines, whining about cant eat right, whining, whining, whining, and lawd forbid I read one more thing about ur addiction to Mountain Dew I'd have to shoot myself. I honestly dont know why u even post asking questions because u havent listened to anyone. U need to follow up w ur doc and make sure the tear is 100% healed because u will be losing gains whenever ur tear it worse. I do wish u a Safe journey, sorry for being so negative. Peace out!

mindset's picture

Crystal Light has got me off the Dew so no more whining about that.

Protein4breakfast's picture

If you just started give it 4 weeks if you don’t see weight gain by then time to add in another 500 cals. If your already past week 3 or 4 I would start upping calls now. If the 500 doesn’t help after a week add in another 250 cals. If you have any questions I would ask Makwa he’s normally more than happy to help even some of the more experienced members turn to him.

Thanks Sir. I'm doing better on the eating now. For once I'm spending more at the grocery store than my wife. It seems like its easier to eat everyday.

Makwa's picture

If it was easy everybody would be doing it and how much fun would that be then.

mindset's picture

You're right. At the gym I go to many are trying to do it. Man boobs and mirror flexes everywhere. Its funny watching someone drink and a Mountain Dew kick start and do squats at the same time.

333's picture

Grass fed ribeye is the best my buddy brings me some each time he butchers up a cow oh man and some beef loin

mindset's picture

I don't know a lot about the chicken I am eating other than it is fresh. I do buy free range brown eggs from my neighbor for 2.00 a dozen and they are so much better due to freshness.

Makwa's picture

Fresh doesn't mean it hasn't been injected with solution. You need to confirm to be sure.

dextetherdog's picture

Even though your goal is to keep your diet as ‘clean’ as possible, think you’re worried a bit too much considering you’re off season and trying to maximize your muscle gains.
When it comes to contest prep then every little thing counts - yolk, ketchup and even stevia (sweetener) etc. At this stage you want to watch every single bit of food you put in your mouth to control the progress.
The stage you’re at, you need to find the right balance between macronutrients to keep the progress and minimize fat gain.

mindset's picture

I have been overdoing it on stevia. A recovering Mountain Dew addict so sweetening whatever I can has been my weakest point.

dextetherdog's picture

As I said I would not worry about it too much while your goal is to maximize muscle gains.
When you decide to go through cutting stage then you can start illuminating unnecessary calories.

The USDA has a Database with all the foods and various ways to cook them and their nutritional values. For example, search for broccoli raw and broccoli cooked and you'll get a laundry list of nutritional differences.

I just quit boiling my chicken thanks to a post in here this week I did have cooked broccoli last night though. I guess my reasoning with it is I hate uncooked broccoli so having it steamed is better than eating whatever my wife is eating for dinner.

Eating fairly healthy and eating a nutritious diet is totally different. I have a lot to learn. Thanks for the link.

333's picture

What did you read about boiled chicken I can't find it

mindset's picture

I read a post in the nutrition section that boiling the chicken kills 50 % of the nutrients. I can't tell you who posted it or its validity. I have been reading so much I have no clue to be honest.

Greg's picture

The info I posted below from the USDA refuts that.

That's good.Thanks. I like boiling chicken and then grilling at different times of the day for flavor reasons. When I read that it loses nutritional value i was kind of pissed

Bearded_muscle's picture

What’s your body fat?

Your diet is going to vary greatly depending on goals. If I’m bulking I’m slamming protein and carbs up to six times a day. If I’m cutting it’s very different.

What are your goals?

mindset's picture

16 percent. Just found that out. I am pushing for bulk and also fat loss. I want 9 percent. I don't know if I will get there. I was 277 lb after a major injury and have a fake leg so cardio is tougher. I have lost a lot, but a long ways to go.

My diet is probably going to be more important than for others. For cardio I have been doing the fancy stair stepper so my weight goes on the heal of my prosthesis. I didn't share this before, mostly because I don't want people to predetermine my ability. I had 8 45s on the stationary bar for my shrugs today so my leg can handle weight. It just gets me raw during cardio at times.

heavymetalmonsterD's picture

Honestly bro you should pick one or the other..if you try to bulk and cut at the same time you'll be disappointed..u just won't see the results you want..also you don't have to do tons of cardio.. handle the fat loss with diet and supplement some cardio to boost your metabolism..makwa has some great posts on diet and nutrition and I can tellyou that they are all worth reading..especially hiswrite up on cyclic bulking..you'll be interested in that one for sure...

Owes a Review × 1
Bearded_muscle's picture

Got it. Do a straight cut. You’ll still put on a little strength. Don’t try and do some in between type thing. And you’re carrying too much bf already to bulk.
Check Makwas posts on cyclic cutting/bulking. He’s got some good training posts laying that out as well. That’s a great place to start.

heavymetalmonsterD's picture

Lol..i just posted the same thing bro lmao..I'll read ahead next time lol

Thank you everyone for the replies. I have a GREAT meat market. Those prices are usually higher. They order like 2000 lb of meat twice a week, they try to never freeze meat. So it goes on special and is fresher than anything on a Walmart shelf.

I do have one question. addicted.to.pain sad something about tuna fish. Several years ago I was on a strict diet. I am surprised I didn't get Mercury poisoning I ate so much Tuna Fish. I didn't use bread, crackers, or anything because I thought of the carbs and constantly trying to get rid of belly fat. I haven't had bread in 6 weeks and it kills me.

I looked at the Dave's bread someone mentioned. I just didn't like seeing the carb numbers. Anyone got a take on bread on a cycle?

addicted.to.pain's picture

I thought some of you pro's could explain the why's on what I do.

Well i'm not a pro, but I do have some input.

With the eggs, I eat whole eggs yellows included. Yes there is some bad cholesterol there, but also good cholesterol. Also keeping the yellows with the egg helps your body to digest more of the protein in the egg white itself.

Pork is a hard no from me, its just an unhealthy meat. it is tasty though.

cottage cheese is an acquired taste I find, add a little sugar or salt. Also there is Greek Yogurt it works perfectly as a substitute. .

chunk light tuna in water drained completely, mix it with a tablespoon of olive oil mayo. Quick easy and very effective. use crackers, two slices of bread, what ever carb you choose it works.

Carlos Danger's picture

On a cut I just add mustard to a can of tuna for snacking. All protein and zero carbs.

mindset's picture

Mustard is how I did it last time. It was the only way i could eat it after a few days. I love mustard. I also found out at the same time if you suffer from acid reflux if you swallow a tablespoon of mustard by itself it settles down your acid reflux almost instantly.

Makwa's picture

Can of tuna with a couple dashes of Tobasco.

Id like to do some shopping where you do. Those are some good prices. Im by far not a diet guru, I eat clean but like flavor. I cook chicken breasts in the crock pot for a day then shred it up then split it up into portion sizes. One of my favorite meals is chicken with whole scrambled eggs, little bit of onion and tomatoes or salsa all mixed up in one pan(I eat the yolks. Lots of good minerals and nutrients in there but I know some prefer just the whites).
I'm not a fan of drinking protein shakes unless I make them. Usually Fairlife milk, greek yogurt, liquid eggs peanut butter and whatever else I have laying around but when I do use whey I add a scoop of unflavored to a cup of vanilla greek yogurt. Turns it into a pudding.
Anyway, good luck

Makwa eats whole eggs and many others do to. I prefer egg whites. I also saw Viking eats some pork.
I dont eat pork but it's mainly from growing up around hogs. I hate pigs...
I mainly eat chicken breast, salmon, talapia and lean beef once a week.
I see alot of guys doing it different ways. I do think it's best to do it on whole foods. I drink one whey protein drink immediately when I wake up and a cup of cottage cheese before bed.
I eat the same way on or off cycle and my protein consumption is not as high as it used to be over kidney concerns.

We raised hogs when I was a kid.. around 100 at any time, and once you smell that it never leaves you. That’s why I hate pork

Lmao! I grew up near a livestock farm. Horses cows pigs. They’d ship em out every Thursday. I still remember the whole neighborhood for a 5mile radius would stink to high heaven. Gotta be honest tho I look back at those times roundly bro. Smell n all

Then you get back in your car and still smell nothing but Hog shit after that long shower and brand new clothes. We had cattle and hogs.

In fact, scientists caution against consuming tilapia if you are trying to lower your risk of inflammatory diseases like heart disease

Tilapia contains much less omega-3 than other fish like salmon. Its omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is higher than other fish and may contribute to inflammation in the body.
