Post workout: Feed or fast?

ad

So I have been doing some thinking and reading on the common practice of pre and post-workout meals. My trainer currently has me on 20 grams of fast acting carbs pre-workout and 20 grams post with a little extra on legs day. Since we know that the natural insulin surge that comes after eating reduces the growth hormone pulse I am questioning the logic in consuming anything, let alone fast acting carbs, post-workout. I understand the common theory that we need to replenish the glycogen supply as soon as possible after a taxing workout, but are we then prematurely extinguishing the growth hormone pulse we just created during the workout? I am particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with fasted pre and post-workout training. Any and all input would be appreciated.

Unless your on igf, ghrp, HGH, insulin, etc that shit really will not make or break you. (Doesn't matter)

I don't drink shakes post workout anymore because it doesn't fit in my macros and I'd rather get my carbs from food, and it's made no difference in my composition/strength.
