So this is IBD colitis or an infection that caused colitis?

If it is IBD, Humira did me wonders.

I'm following everything below and agree. I would also include b-12 injections because that vitamer is hard to absorb in the gut for people with your condition. Keep an eye on iron levels as well. Ask your doc to check for pernicious anemia if he/she hasn't already. I have a feeling that low b-12 and iron coupled with inflammatory foods is making you fatigued. Try eliminating gluten, dairy, and most all processed foods. Juicing fresh organic fruits and vegetables is a good idea.

i can get b12 injections very easy......my doc took a blood sample for anemia and he said i didnt have it but thats it....maybe try the b12 injections for my self and see how i feel...what is the usual dose for b12 injections? the amps i can get is 1mg amps....dont know if th doc will give me them but i can get them at a very cheap price anyway...what is it a amp a week or? any side effects on b12 like will my body become dependent on them

flacidego's picture

1000 micrograms a week. Each amp is 1ml of 1000 mics. I have no side effects. Go with methylcobalamin if your doc will write a script vs cyanocobalamin. The latter has to be broken down to the former in your body before it becomes active. Methyl is more expensive but worth every penny.

this is the one i can get vitamin b12 hydroxocobalamin??????

flacidego's picture

I wasn't aware of this form, just Googled it. I don't know how it stacks up to methyl or cyano so I have some research to do, but I'm sure it's more than ok to use. It's all pharma and all are vitamers of b-12.

Probiotics and enzymes.
Less grains, less dairy
more fruits and veggies
real meats.

HAve you tried eliminating gluten for a test run? If it's celiac, it's an easy fix.

carl3553's picture

just started a week ago using digestive enzymes and probitoics..my doc has me on asacol meds...also use a multi vitamin a iron vitamin and have one actimel a day.......never tried eliminating gluten? do you think that would help

DBG's picture

YES!! Nailed it.
You have to eliminate inflammatory foods from your diet:

Wheat, wheat products
Dairy
Citrus fruit
Red meat
AND obviously ANYTHING processed

A good strong probiotic is VERY helpful as well...like 25-75 biliion CFU's.

carl3553's picture

reading the back of my probiotics now

lactobacillus acidophilus 3.2 billion cfu
lactobacillus bulgaricus 400 million cfu
bifidobacterium bifidum 200 million
streptococcus thermophilius 200 million cfu
per capsule it says 2 a day

DBG's picture

you probably need something a lil stronger

carl3553's picture

seriously wow i have to rethink my whole diet...can getting rid of gluten really help fatigue?

DBG's picture

yes absolutely man. the best idea is to pick thru the small list i just posted and eliminate ONE group of things at a time to see what it really is that is bothering you. Stay away from that particular food for a few weeks and then go back and eat it and see how you feel? That's one method...or just eliminate the majority of inflammatory foods altogether, esp gluten-wheat

carl3553's picture

thanks alot brother really glad you took the time to answear my post.... had this disease 5 years and taken no medication till now i got diagnosed when i was 17 i chose to believe i new better than the doctor and there was nothing wrong till a nice little flare up a few weeks ago! lovely! im quite lucky tho i only have a mild case thank god just fatigued as hell!!!!

DBG's picture

Oh of course man! It is no problem at all...I enjoy talking about diet and nutrition more than anything else on here and I actually work in the nutritional field, so its kinda my specialty. I talk to ppl about these issues almost every day of the week ;-)

carl3553's picture

the thing is tho brother ive had 1 flare in 6 years? i dont have any foods that cause me to have a flare that iknow of? can foods like past and bread and gluten foods really cause me fatigue?

DBG's picture

Def def def can and will give you fatigue man. Grains these days are so hybridized and more "artificial" than they ever historically were that the human body can't digest and process it like it used to...leading to certain ailments like maybe what you are dealing with

carl3553's picture

thanks so much brother...going to plan a gluten free diet plan out tonight and start tomorrow1 ill let you know how it goes!
