+ 2 Beef Isolate powder vs. Whey Protein Isolate?

ad

I've just recently ordered & received some Beef Hydrolysed Isolate powder from my supplements outlet as it's on a heavy discount atm. Its Banana Fudge flavour and one of the nicest ever protein shakes I've ever had, a very slight salt beef aftertaste if I'm honest but its actually likeable, I guess particularly if you like your meat! Just wondering if anyone has run Beef protein powder for a considerable length of time and got any greater gains than normal Whey Isolate powder? Its naturally higher in Glutamine, Glycine & Arginine also.

Here's a link to a study saying they actually found slightly better results in mass in the group taking the Beef protein than those taking the Whey powder:

I used beef protein many years ago with good results. I would however use it with Whey Protein alternating both. Best of both worlds!

Whole foods are better if you have the time or your like me and your wife preps your food.

Whey can give me farts that stick to walls. Justin comptin through animal has a beef/meat/meal replacement protein powder. I think it has all grass feed meats and good sources of carbs from veggies and fuits. I think. People say it tastes good. Like u can tell your getting REAL nutrition from it.

My wife keeps my beef isolated and I for some reason let her get a WHEY with it

Make your own shake, 60g unflavoured whey, 5g glutamine extra, 2 bananas, 12oz water or milk.

Whats the most you can absorb from chicken/beef/fish. 40g ish?

Greg's picture

40g ish by weight or protein?

According to USDA.gov

1 cup, cooked, diced chicken is 135 gm by weight. Which contains 36.54 gm of digestible protein.
1 cup, cooked, diced lean beef is 134 gm by weight. Which contains 39.7 gm of digestible protein.
1 cup, cooked, flaked fish is 136 gm by weight. Which contains 32.3 gm of digestible protein.

Liquid protein does not stay in the digestive tract long enough to be fully digested.

Best to get your protein from food. Your body can absorb nearly all of the protein you eat. Whatever your muscles don't use will be converted to energy.

The maximum rate that whey protein can be absorbed is about 8-10 grams per hour.

It takes one and a half hours for a whey protein shake to pass through the section of the gut that can actually absorb it. So a whey shake will yield about 15 grams of absorbed protein.

So no matter how much whey you dump in that shake you will only ingest about 15 grams of protein. Now the good news:

Digestive enzymes (added by quality makers of whey protein drinks) can increase the absorption rate by up to 125%

you are correct, anything over the 20-25 gram recommended amount does not get used.

I was always lead to belive raw eggs contain half the amount of protein of a cooked one when digested and also you run the risk of salmonella? Not arguing just interested in your findings mate

...run the risk of salmonella?

That was back in ye olden times. It's what your grandma told your ma.

Food handling has come a long way. Eating poultry, pork, and eggs do not have the dangers they once had.

JugulrTRENsuspension's picture

So the brown hrass fed walmart or meijer brand eggs are good to drink raw? Should someone start with 1 raw egg white to test their gut?

GrowMore's picture

It’s definitely easier to eat! If I don’t log on after this I’ve died of salmonella haha.

I've ran the Carnivor Mass before, the mass gainer and just the beef protein powder. Only issue I have with it is it's so freakin high in sodium, like unreal high.

I was in GNC last night and they had several jugs of the Carnivor Mass that expires in March 2019 so they marked it down to $13.98!! I almost got some, still may go back and grab one. I do get tired of the whey bloat. Woke up this morning with a nice, tight mid-section and a whey shake with two bananas and 1/3rd cup of oats later I'm on my way to the gym looking like I'm growing a beer belly. Pisser, lol.

GrowMore's picture

I cheat and have 2-3 shakes a day, nothing crazy just 25g of protein in them with some almond milk, usually isolate however when I’m home and want a smoothie I use beef as it’s easier to digest than another whey shake. Also you need a blender to mix that stuff as it’s a nightmare. No difference in gains but less bloat and easier to digest.

Its Defo easier to digest isn't it mate - I'm guessing its the same stuff we are talking about here as we use the same outlet for supps?! I find in a shaker with the roller ball and it mixes pretty well, HOWEVER I've just got it out of the fridge after a few hours and the whole thing has jellyfied as its mainly collagen isn't it Lol

Same stuff mate! And I brought the 500g offer also as usually I get just plain chocolate, it’s a nice alternative although I usually add frozen fruit to the smoothie and the fudge banana one can clash with certain fruits.

Plain chocolate good too is it? I see there is a chocolate & peanut butter one also.

herpjunkie111's picture

The Carnivor brand I had before was chocolate and PB, is that the brand you're talking about?

GrowMore's picture

Plain chocolate is my go too, goes well with everything. Myprotein sell a beef protein vanilla flavour which is tempting as vanilla goes great with smoothies. I’m yet to compare it with the bulkpowders’ though.

I couldn't stand the smells or taste of any of the brands I tried, and I'm allergic to dairy so I don't use very either normally I try to just eat while foods but I do keep a tub of plant based protein around because it doesnt bloat me, that or I've liked using egg white protein as well. While whole foods are recommended I still think liquid nutrients are the best pre and post workout for readily avalible energy. Even if i had powder protein I'd still do egg whites and pineapple juice post ost workout always.

it's bad enough you are Racist against Vegans...

The Vegan race? He couldn't be biased against or even have a prejudice towards vegans, but racist?

Goes to show just how infectious the progressive overuse of the label racist has become.

I'm not calling you a progressive, just that you've "unconsciously" parroted progressives. The word racist seems to have become synonymous with "bias" or "prejudice"

Beast1988's picture

You know what my bad, I apologize for commenting at all. Didn't think I'd get attacked about something I didn't say and then docked karma for sticking up for myself

Do you even know what vegan is? I said I eat eggs in my response. Not liking the taste of beef protein powder doesn't make me a vegan, not being able to stomach dairy doesn't make me a vegan,, i use a plant protein cause it doesnt bloat me, again doesn't make me vegan.

I eat a lot of eggs and chicken and fish, whereas a vegan eats no animal products.

Next time you respond make sure you read everything and know what you're talking about. Thanks.

Beast1988's picture

Um no im not a vegan and I did answer his question, I said I tried several brands and they taste like shit. I prefer eggs. Did you even read my response before typing your bullshit ?

tattoofreak's picture

LMFAO.... a racist against vegans? Hilarious!

herpjunkie111's picture

Queen Cersei? Nah.

That responce from him was a little extreme. Probably all the estrogen from his plant based protein or hes in "beast mode" lol.
