+ 1 Bloodwork for Cholesterol

ad

I was always under the impression that AAS increases dad cholesterol and my latest bloodwork showed elvated LDL and lowered HDL. Now I look it up in several places and I get results stating what o always read and thought I knew then I see this “ Studies have found that testosterone doesn't seem to have any effect on LDL -- "bad" -- cholesterol.” Is there any really studies breaking this down?

These are the scores the uk doctors use to see if you need statins or not and the over 10 your high risk and need them below 10 you don’t the lower one is off gear higher on

We are both in the area they call borderline high your numbers are slightly higher than mine but not by a lot. Was you on cycle when you had the bloods taken? I should get results from yesterday back at some point today or tomorrow so be interesting to see the difference on and off gear.

For me it raises bad cholesterol and lowers good cholesterol. Doc put me on atavorstatin low dose 20mg and its fine now

They offered me atavorstatin but I refused it, mine was only 5.8 but because of high blood pressure it increased the risk factors so she advised I start taking it, I looked into them and decided against them. Are you having any sides from them ? did you research them?

Owes a Review × 1
Pumped_'s picture

No sides. Take COQ10 just in case but no sides at minimal dose. Tell doc give you blood pressure med also. If your going to be taken stuff that raises your cholesterol and blood pressure then why against taking something to lower it? I think its the elderly that have to take high doses that get the sides. Our AAS use is just the cause so we don't need high dose

I’m not educated enough on the effects that statins have long term but I think that the effects they have can be counter productive for my muscle development. My cholesterol is not super high anything under 5 is ok mine is 5.2 but coupled with the raised BP and steroids I take , it puts my Q risk score just over 10 and above 10 they offer you statins to lower your risk of heart attack or stoke over the next 10 years.
I was blasting and cruising for 15 years so with that in mind I don’t think my results were that bad. Now for exactly these health reasons I have switched to cycling steroids for set periods and completely coming off with pct.
I have just got back from my blood and hormone panels and I’m hoping my Q risk has lowered as my BP is staying in normal range and I don’t need ramipril any more to achieve this , if my cholesterol has dropped then Q marker hopefully is below 10 . If all is good I will start a 20 week cycle in the next few weeks and get bloods and hormone panels done again mid cycle and after pct and time off to again monitor my health.
I only posted here as I have just had cholesterol done while on steroids and then again today after being off a while so the results may be of Interest to this discussion

Doctors love prescribing statins

Oh i was just explaining to Press1 over in the Uk how in USA they will diagnose and prescribe with the quickness. Doctors get kickbacks from the pharmacys and now they have all these "pre" diagnosis for everything.

Musclemem's picture

It’s true brother it’s kickback not from pharmacies but from the drug makers. It seems like an evil circle. It’s not a conspiracy theory but u truly believe food, drug and insurance companies have a scam going. Food you make them sick, Pharma you suppress the symptoms but do f cure them and insurance you raise the premiums and deny every procedure or drug possible. Maybe I’m just cynical but ingredients our foods are banned in most of the world.

Look at the fireball drink i used to love and get drunk. Banned everywhere else in the world except USA because the glycol is too high. America lets us drink antifreeze lol. Look it up. Banned

Yeah statins cause muscle soreness or something that's why you have to supplement the COq10. Guess it decreases your natural levels. My cholesterol isnt super bad either but got tired of hearing doctor complaining so i just gave in lol

Mine was 5.8 on my last bloods just above normal of 5.0 or less. I’m having bloods done again tomorrow and it’s 5 months since last bloods and about 3.5 off steroids. So I’ll share results with you soon as I have them back normally 2 or 3 days

Yeah what you noticed with your HDL is normal. There is usually anywhere from a 10- 15 point reduction in HDL cholesterol when using testosterone in cycle dosages. A important point is HDL is needed to somewhat control LDL. There have been studies and some tend to contradict one another but overall I would say to get regular health checks and consume plenty of fiber.. soluble mainly. And yes triglycerides are a factor also. Some folks tend to think cholesterol isn't a factor but anytime there is a plaque like build up there are usually problems ahead. It definitely plays a factor

Musclemem's picture

See what I couldn’t find there any gear that is tougher on cholesterol or is it more or less the same across the board. I use a lot of Tren Hex

Owes a Review × 1 In a promo × 1
DeeMan's picture

Nah not the same across the board at all. Orals and 19 Nors like Tren usually increase cholesterol. How are your bloods on Tren? Cholesterol?

Musclemem's picture

Cholesterol is high 220 and triglycerides are high. I eat a lot of good fats Quality krill, olive oil and D3. The Tren just destroys my hdl

Latest scientific literature says HDL to triglycerides is the true indicator of CVD. Not HDL to LDL. Eat your fiber, don’t cram shitty sugars in your face every day, do cardio, and your HDL to triglyceride ratio will be good even on AAS.

Cardio is the most neglected thing though. Gotta learn to love it just like you love hitting the weights.

Musclemem's picture

Funny you say that because my triglycerides were high as well. I worry about my liver.

I know we need cholesterol and I’m 100% sure the doctors scare us into taking statins. They benefit from it and this I know from doctors who are friends. They all tell me don’t tell blood pressure or cholesterol meds unless there is no other way. A good doctor told me inflammation is the biggest health issue we have as well as gut health. If we get those in check will will live a much healthier life.

There’s a big difference between Testosterone, testosterone derivatives, DHT derivatives- injectable vs oral, Nandrolone and 19-nor derivatives, and everything else, in regard to their impact on Lipids. Testosterone has minimal if any impact on lipids up to 600mg/week based on the studies I’ve seen. Most of that research is done by Bhasin et al.

Be more specific about what AAS you’re speaking of. For search engines use PubMed, Medline, Cochrane, and Google Scholar. There is plenty of literature out there, albeit a lot of it you have to pay for, studies are limited in number, quality, and much of it is dated. But still plenty out there, and I’ve reviewed the majority of it to have a decent working knowledge around it.

Here’s the thing, we’re all different and the drugs will affect us in different ways. Treatment protocols in general, are, generalized for the masses. It’s what makes the difference between a bad doctor, an ok doctor, and a great physician. Me personally, I used to have certain markers that would be elevated while on cycle, but still better when I was out of shape and drinking heavy. Now that I’ve got my diet right, there’s no issues. Diet makes all the difference. Consider this, would you rather eat like a monk for a few months, I mean disciplined, or go on a statin drug? They come with a whole host of sides no one wants. I wish I had an answer that more directly answers your question, but when it comes to the details in the bloodwork, we’re all so different. For me a light to moderate cycle with diet has my markers better than the average person who isn’t so health conscious. Also, and I’ve seen this a lot with shitty doctors, if you’re a tenth of a point above or below range many will jump right to meds. I had a friend who’s doctor wanted to start him on insulin with a glucose marker of 110 or 112, can’t remember exactly. Either way, if he was normal or below a McDonalds super size lunch could bump someone that much.

Musclemem's picture

I noticed my cholesterol was much higher. My LDL then my HDL was extremely low. I take top quality D3, Antarctic Krill Oil and top notch olive oil so I would expect decent HDL numbers but I’m getting some data stating gears lowers HDL as well. I’m we vary but I would think everyone experiences a cholesterol change. My blood also showed very high red blood cell count which off cycle it’s normal.

Yeah man, it’s going to happen for most people, and it lets you know the gear is legit at the same time. It’s one of the gifts the pros have, not only are they excellent responders to the drugs, their bodies have a high tolerance for them. Most of us, and I’m saying 95/100 of us, would be in some serious trouble if we used those dosages. It’s fascinating if you get thinking about it. Short story, I was friendly with a woman for a while, in her mid 30’s got into the habit of drinking. She wasn’t a big drinker by any means, less than casual. She went went through some personal issues, a divorce, and went to the bottle. Roughly a year of drinking, almost daily, vodka between a pint and a fifth and wound up on the liver transplant list. Thankfully her numbers lowered to where she wound up not needing the procedure, but there’s literally millions of people drinking way more for much longer and no where near the problem she ran into. Truly fascinating.
