+ 1 PRs/1-RM How Often and Which Type

ad

I was just curious about this topic and wanted to query the community on how often each of us test for one rep max and or PRS.
Personally, I think the last time I tried my one rep max on bench, squat and deadlift has been like four or five months. I just never think about it. I do however train for PRS all the time. For instance leg press on set 9 six of 625 you know things of that nature. I just trained everyday and listen to my body.

Curious to hear everybody's thoughts on the topic.

I do the exact same thing Rusty. Especially on the leg press. I don't get to my max weight till about the ninth or tenth set.

It really depends on the audience you are asking mate, a lot of guys on here are into bodybuilding so understandably they don't give a rats ass lol (look at me becoming Americanised lol) about lifting for a max single - where as someone like me being powerlifting based will always want to know. That's why you don't have many responses. There are probably no more than about 20 powerlifters that I know of on here and most aren't on that often or tend to talk often in the forums. So from a personal point of view if I am not feeling sore, but feeling strong and the joints are feeling fluid then I will always go for them at least in bench. Its always at least once a fortnight maybe more. Only problem is that once you go for one and fail, if you lift alone like I do in a power rack then it means re racking the weight and doing a mini warm up again all of which affects your working sets. Of course if you get the Max it works brilliantly and you can do your back off sets afterwards. I often use to go for them in deadlifts but the huge problem is once that damn bar starts sticking to the ground you can quickly affect you training progression and things can quickly deteriorate - so nowadays I only work in doubles and triples as once that first rep leaves the ground its generally easy to get the rest, as once you reset for the next rep you are already in the prime position to lift again rather than the first being more based on perfect hip hinge height or feel. I'll always say NOTHING in the world beats that feeling of getting an all time PR in an exercise you enjoy, nothing. Unlike an awesome blowjob that feels great for 5 minutes - the Euphoria of that PR can last for days afterwards and is something that can never be taken away from you. Just for one brief moment of time all that damn pinning, spending thousands on steroids, eating and slugging protein shakes, hundreds of hours grinding ass with weights and missing out on things in favour of extra sleep all feels worth it Smile

I figured that was the case I e bodybuilders versus powerlifters in the lack of response to this post. How you describe your one rep max and PR euphoria feeling hits the nail on the head for me. Like I said I don't generally do one rep max and haven't for a long time but I like hitting new PRS on my favorite exercises. Thanks for the response.

Probably been 10 yrs since I tried a 1 rep max. All that shit does is get you hurt Lol Who cares how much I can lift as long as it looks like I can lift a house. Lol
