L-Citruline - Who is trustworthy in 2021

ad

Last article in here touching on this was actually addressing arganine and it is 8-years old, so wondering just a couple points:
1) Has anyone found reputable manufacturers on the L-Citruline?
2) Any preferences on straight or malate?
3) Is high dosing just before photos worth the effort, and how long?

My thought is to take about 3g daily for my cutting cycle until maybe 2-weeks out and then up to 8g daily? Is that even worth it? I never really focused on this until reading More Plates More Dates discussion on it and I think it will really help me to make a good photo for PGS finish, but I know very little about using it. All the reasoning is sound and I was quite surprised that supplementing Citruline had more effect on Arganine than actually supplementing Arganine itself. However, this looks like it will be a pricey purchase, especially if I want to get to the 8-10g dosing last two weeks. It also looks like there are a lot of rip-offs out there, and I mostly go with Holland & Barrett, except some fish oil by recommend of Press1, which I do feel is better than my H&B.

Repeating what I heard: So, the product recommended below by @press1 arrived today, and checking my understanding to @Makwa recommended dose (as is also recommended by any reputable article I fiind) my Citruline Malate is 2:1 L-Citruline:Malic Acid, so to reach 8g daily of L-Citruline, I need 12g of this blend. This is taken lump sum, in the morning on the way to workout along with BCAA. I am of the belief that this is the maximum beneficial dose, adding more is wasted. On the money?

Is there a recommended dose on the tub? Typically that 8g refers to the blend so that is the bare minimum I would be taking. I think 12g is plenty. 12g is probably what I would be doing, especially if you are going to have a demanding workout. Since you are also working out in the morning taking a little extra is probably a good idea also. Try lower dose once and compare to higher dose to see if you notice anything different.

So, I went with the 12g and I can absolutely say that ability to perform more reps is there. One of the things I get from my shoulder is massively raised heart rate from absolute pain (some days) and that can make a ten minute set take 30-minutes easily (mostly on the primary mover - bench, military press, etc) but it affects almost all my delt exercises. I have noticed massive ability to go to ten reps or more and thus pyramid up to old benchmarks with this supplement, so I think it has been one of the top adds to my diet over the past 5-months. What I find is that the pain drives up my heart rate and respiration and I have been failing at 6 where I can do more, but this week, I have been hitting 10+ reps and thus pushing the weight up.... and that with a 300 calorie per day drop. I will be keeping this little gem.

That is great it is working out for you.

Go with Citruline Malate over the L-Cit. The addition of the malate gives you an extra bonus. It is part of the TCA cycle, which is essentially another way that your body produces energy. Hence, you increase malate, you can increase your energy production. The other reason I would choose the malate is that you don't have to load it like you have to with L-cit. With L-cit you need at least a full week of steady loading to start seeing the benefits. You can reap the full benefits of CM an hour after you take it. I wouldn't take any less than 8 grams.

My impression is that you are mainly focusing on the vasodialation that it could provide, hence taking it before a photo shoot. Well, it is not going to hurt but not the end of the world if you don't use it. It is just going to be a drop in a large bucket with all the other stuff you are on. Might give a little edge if you were all natty but juiced up not going to be a bid deal.

The main thing you want to focus on is timing your glycogen loading and water depletion to give you the best look. This is about the best and simplest advice you can follow before a shoot. This process is what will make the difference. I don't feel citrulline is the one to focus on.

So many of my questions answered here, thank you. On the peak week, I clearly see plain mistakes that would have really helped me the last time I tried to rip up a bit, this is an odd process for a guy who naturally weighs 140-lb dripping wet and had to workout 10-years just to reach 200-lb (no supplements or organics where I was working out). I've been following that cutting diet you helped me with, and part maths, part answer by accident, it has hit right on the money. I have maintained weight using the exact percentages your article put me on and come Sunday, I will start a controlled reduction in cars (milk first and maybe have a regular BM again). I am sure I also saw some information on the citruline malate applying to the ATP/ADP energy system, so I am going to chase this one down, it seems worth the venture to me, if only the NO properties and such. Thanks for the leads and time, I have a really good feeling about this plan.
