Fixing metabolism/thyroid and TRT
I've had hypothyroidism for three years. It is my belief that this is what resulted in having low test. Since then, I have tried many different approaches to getting my waking temperature to 98 degrees or above, and having a peak temp of 99 or more, while maintaining an average of 98.6 for the day. So far, the only way I've been able to do this is through using T3 and HC. HC is short term. HC has many dangers. I am now weaned off of HC.
What I have now been experimenting with is pregnenolone, with T3, and also T4 when it arrives. I tried NDT in the past but it is hard to dose because if you want more T4, you will wind up with more T3, which is NOT a good thing. Just take that experience from me.
What I have done in the past few weeks: taken transdermal pregnenolone with T3 5mcg four times a day, with 1 grain of NDT spread through the night. This has resulted in mornings temps from low to mid 97s, and peak temps at high 97s to low 98s. When the T4 arrives I will be switching to oral preg powder taking 100mg once a day in the morning, T3 four times throughout the day, and 100mcg of T4 before bed. I will also be upping my calories and food intake to raise metabolism with this approach. The goal is to have an optimal thyroid and metabolism, along with my already-optimal test from being on HCG.
This log is for those interested in metabolism/thyroid/adrenals, and those who are on TRT or other HRT and who just aren't feeling the full effects of it, most likely due to a damaged metabolism. I will begin updating once the T4 and oral preg arrive.

Where has T4 been all my life?
T3 along with T4 is working beautifully! My temps are now in the 98s, and my waking temp is mid to high 97s. Huge improvement. The foods that raise metabolism are also what I've been getting the hang of. Felt sooo good today. Damn.
QtripsAlright! 4/11
Been taking 100mcg of T4 for a few days now. Temps are going up. But is it because of the added T4, or the addition of more "warming" foods and the deletion of "cooling" ones? Hmm....perhaps both. My temp reached a high of 98.7 yesterday, after starting in the very low 97s early on the morning. That's one big rise. Also, I was better in the gym due to being "warmer." More to come...
Qtrips4/7
Received T4 in the mail today. Yeah! Starting 50mcg tonight.
Qtrips4/6
Guess what LOWERS metabolism....water.
Unless actually thirsty, just drinking water because you think you "should" consistently resulted in a decrease in temperature a half hour after ingestion, along with a feeling of my warmth dropping.
QtripsUpdate for 4/5
I've started a "food list." On this food list I am marking down whether a certain food causes an increase or decrease in metabolism determined by oral temperature.
-cheese: increase (0.1)
-milk: increase (0.2)
-rice flour bread w/ cane sugar: increase (0.8)
-coconut oil (0.1)
This is all I've had since last night. I also expected these results from these foods. This could be interesting...
Interesting information. I was diagnosed with low T and hypothyroidism at the same time little over two years ago.
My MD would not start my TRT until after he had treated the hypothyroidism. He said improving thyroid function could increase Test production, and perhaps avoid TRT.
His approach to thyroid treatment was to test only TSH, T4 and free T4, prescribing T4 to bring TSH into range.
I went up to a dose of 125 mcg of T4 daily to get in range. But now over the last 6 months my TSH was too low and my MD started cutting back the T4 dosage, until finally discontinuing it entirely.
So it looks like my thyroid function has improved drastically since I've been on TRT, which is the opposite of my MD's approach.
I'm very interested in your use of body temp to monitor thyroid function. Is this approach used by your MD or is this an alternative method??
If you have any links to info about using body temp to assess thyroid function, please hit me back with it.
QtripsBody temperature used to be how thyroid function was tested back in the day. Nowadays the outdated TSH lab is used. To get a true assessment of thyroid function, one needs Free T4, Free T3, RT3, and antibodies testing. And yes, improving thyroid can improve test production...this is something I wish I would have known long ago. Thyroid function and metabolism is way more important than testosterone for sex drive. When my temp is in the 97s, I've got nada, but when it gets into the 98s it's better, and when it gets to the high 98s to low 99s especially, it feels like I'm almost going to go crazy if I don't get some.
Visit stopthethyroidmadness.com for information on using temperatures. Also, search "Dr. Rind temperature graph for thyroid."
Thanks for the detailed info!
I have a very stingy HMO that only orders the bare minimum tests. I've asked my MD for additional tests, like T3 and E2 but he said they were not needed--in other words he could get away with not ordering them and still successfully defend against a malpractice suit.
I will go to an outside private lab and get my own tests, as well as studying up on using temp to monitor thyroid function.
Thanks again! +1
QtripsNo problem! Those tests will definitely help.
Thanks for posting, please continue with updates.
What is HC,NDT?
QtripsI should have included that, my bad. HC=hydrocortisone. NDT=natural dessicated thyroid.

Got preg today. Will start it up tmw at 100mg of pure powder.
