Dr's Appointment in the morning.. Need advice..
This is my first post in this section of the board.. So hello.. I am 41... fat and weak.. I was very fit and lifted every day well into my late 20's and life happened blah blah blah.. got married blah blah.. had kids blah blah.. stressful job blah.. I am sure you all heard all the weak excuses before.. but fact is i was always one of the strongest people I know ever since I was a kid.. and that has changed over the last 3 years.. I hardly know myself.. I feel like crap, look like crap and I have had enough of it..
I talked to my last Dr.. a Filipino Dr.. (nothing against Filipinos.. I like them a lot).. but she didn't speak English very well and my Tagalog is terrible.. and when I asked her about checking my Test. to see if it was low.. she looked at me like a drug seeker and said that even if it was a little low she probably wouldn't do anything about it.. acted angry that I asked. and then asked me if I was just depressed.. I told her i am far from depressed. I have a hot wife, 2 awesome kids couple of classic cars in the garage that I enjoy fuckin around with people in my life that I consider good friends.. life is "Grand in Mikey Land" It's just that the last few years, the fire has been slowly going out.. At that she asked me if I felt suicidal!!! I almost flipped. I grabbed my stuff and the standard lab work slips she handed me and left..
I have since started dieting gotten a ton more active.. lost 13 lbs.. down to 260lbs (i am 6'0") joined a gym.. I feel better but still not the same and recovery. forget about it. I hurt for days after I lift.. My pecker still works (thank god) my libido is so-so ( better than it was..). But not the same..
So all that gets to this.. I changed Doctors, found a young guy that in his personal profile listed that he played college football etc.. I am thinking this guy has got to be more sympathetic to my plight than the previous one..
My questions for everyone reading this, are how I approach the subject with him. I at one time was in the medical field (similar to a PA but in the military). Should I act like I don't know anything or should I talk to him like I have done my homework. In a perfect world he would test me.. and agree to inject me with test and monitor as I go.. I am going to do it with his help or without.. I also plan to do a few cycles once I do my weight routine for a little longer.. get my tendons used to it again don't want to stress them too much and hurt myself.. So what should I say? what worked for you all? Should I come clean and tell him my plan if he refuses to test and treat if I'm low? What do I say to talk him out of the gel and get him to agree to inject if i do come up low (which I know I am)?
Thanks in advance for all your help..

wow... my total test came back 415.... totally thought it would be lower.. especially how i feel... guess i need to STFU.. is 415 really normal?
well, I think ideal is between 600-1100. The cut off my doc gave for low was 250, mine was 217, so I wish it was 415.
I was up for my physical and asked the doctor if she could get a testosterone level. She asked why and I said I was tired often and had difficulty maintaining an erection. It came back at 220 and she prescribed 200 mg shots a month that I would have to come in for. I countered that I wanted to give my own shots and give them once a week, that was a bit of a fight, not with her, but with the nurses and insurance, but then a big envelope appeared with a vial of test cyp and a bunch of needles.
It can't hurt to get a level and explore your options. I think some have had it drummed into their head that anyone wanting TRT is abusing it and we should just be happy getting old, you did the right thing in switching docs. I'm just on maintenance now but plan on doing an actual cycle in a month, of course I will need my own supply for that.
Had my appt. Dr was ok.. He either a huge TRT fan or at least not very knowledgeable about it at least agreed to test me.. Couldn't talk him into doing an Estradiol test though... Said it didn't matter because his treatment would be the same if my test was low he said it was most likely high because I was fat.. (I like that he said fat lol).. So I am going to the lab tomorrow to do bloods (the usual plus T panel and test panel),,
He also said that even endo doc don't recommend treatment unless you are in the double digits because of the effect on the testicles.. and he made a shrinking gesture with his hands.. i told him i was aware of that problem and that there are things you can do to counteract that to some degree.. mentioned HCG he could tell I wasn't buying what he was selling.. so he said ok let me see what your labs look like.. I then told him that i believed in being honest with my doctor and told him i was probably going to do it with or without him.. but that i would rather do this under his supervision because he is a professional...blah blah blah.. He smiles and said ..lets see what your labs tell us.. and that was it..
Sounds good. Don't rush into this. Blood work is the road map. Private labs are a must.Get a copy of your results and post up some numbers. Many here will help. Don't go by what others are doing. You have to find your sweet spot then maintain it. Everybody is different. It's like BBQ low and slow, then BAM you come with the sauce in a blast cycle. DIET DIET DIET. Good fuel means good BBQ. Keep reading and researching. I'm 44 in the same boat. Stick around and lets do this together. This time next year we celebrate and eat BBQ.
I just asked my GP in a casual manner if she would test my levels, she responded just as casually that she would. She then asked me some basic questions about my energy and stress levels. I gave her the answers she was looking for. She said that most test results she gets come back low; when the results come back we can discuss treatment options (if needed).
Saw this to late. But you got sound advice below. How did your appointment go with the new doctor?
56tooIn my opinion buddy, all doctors are good for is to get a prescription for your bloods (provided u have ins.). They will usually never prescribe what u relly need as far as dosages, unless u go c a anti-aging dr.Make sure he tests for all the hormones i.e test, free test, dhea, estrogens etc. And yeah, most drs use the protocol of diagnosing low test with depression, stress and anything else but what it really is. Tbo I,ve learned more on here and reading books than what any dr has ever told me. Good luck
Bro, First off if your lifting the diet should be more like Protein, THE RIGHT CARBS, and oils. I am 41 and I went through the same stuff married, kids, life
!! And yes I got fat.. I am 5'7" and when i started lifting again I was 273 lbs! I have always been broad but still I was a fat fuck!! I went through the bullshit with docs and test and turn downs! my test was in the low 300s so I decided to get educated and do it my way! Learned from bodybuilders the right way to eat and in 10-12 weeks I started to change drastically! The truth is until you figure out how to eat the right foods and how much and how many times to eat per day your not gonna be happy no matter what other stuff you put in your body! You might loose weight with low carbs but it wont last! You need the energy to workout and the carbs are just as important as the protein. Oh I almost forgot I went from a 44 pants to a 34, From 273 lbs to 198-205 I vary a bit, no weman talking to me to Alot talking to me.. I look and feel like superman and people look at my before pic and me now and say thats not me in the pic! Bro, the doc isnt gonna give you the shit to get what you want! learn how your body works then you wont be wasting your money when you do get the gear!!
sgtstedankoHello big. If it were me. Be honest w/your doc. Go in there & tell him, exactly what you told us. Act like you've done your homework. Yada yada yada; blah blah blah. Ask him to check the levels. See what they are at. If you're gonna do this with or without him. Most cases, even if he won't personally, he'll steer you towards somebody who will work w/you. Get rhe cream. It seems to be harder to find than good gear, here... Use it when you need to give your sites a break, from all the gear
Feel free2pm me, brother. stick w/it; you ain't pushing up daisies just yet
Any doc will give you blood test for full screen. Test or hgh could be prescribed by him. Be honest with lack of energy and new life trying to feel right. Tell him your trying but feel bleh. Bloods will tell story. Endo doc will work with you. Keep lifting as that fully helps. Dont quit bro. Get thinner naturally first and use docs help.
thanks for the advice..... working on the thin thing.. high protein low carb is working for me (Atkins).. its the perfect diet for me.. the lifting thing is going slow.. I am still strong. the 2 days between visits are hell.. i get so sore now.. and I am lifting light..
try The Paleo Diet. ive personally seen it work wonders on people.
