YouTube time...
ad
Every so often someone throws up a link to a YouTube video on here, and I catch a blast from the past of some kick ass music....just came across a bunch of Pantera links and it made me want to make a forum for all of us to throw down some of our favs...any genre, any time frame just dump them in here and see what we come up with..
For me, a local station has been playing this song alot lately and it reminds me of a time when better music was common, not like today when good rock is hard to find, at least on a consistent basis...here you go:

Didn't he direct some of the videos as well?
Yes, and a few mainstream commercials and movies too.
High Sly was just busted again for dope. That dude's gotta be 70 and still can't get right.
No kiddin, yeah maybe Ole sly should chill out...lol
"Now I'm an amputee, Goddamn you!"

This song is one n of my all time favorites. Back before Avenged Sevenfold was well known, they had a more complex sound, and incorporated alot of piano work and woodwinds in earlier songs. This song has many layers to it, and is a modern version of what a lot of 70s rock bands pulled off, Switching keys, chords and tempos to portray a story through a song.
Avenged Sevenfold - I Won't See You Tonight Part 1: http://youtu.be/oAdQzCq53XE
Part 2 is a shorter, heavier version, I like it but not enough to add it here.
What about the highwaymen?

And a little Tool:

Nice variety...def tones make some good music for sure, another band who, like tool, have developed a sort of cult following over their tenure
For sure, they have a very unique sound. I'm still waiting for a new album, I think Chino played around with side projects long enough...ironically enough, much like MJK from Tool & his side projects.
Apparently a long running lawsuit is what has prevented Tool from releasing new material.
Tool is under contract to release one more album, which they are actually working on. Maynard is 50 now and has other things he wants to do besides make Tool albums. His vineyard is his top priority right now. And he is having a blast making Puscifer albums. Can you tell I'm obsessed? Tool hasn't released an album since "10,000 Days" in 2006, and I fear by the time they release, what will probably be their last album, ten years will have passed.
And I agree with you Pale, Lateralus the song and the album, are both epic achievements. And yes, the percussion is on another level. I started to say last night that Danny Carey is the best drummer in the world but I didn't want to start an argument. LOL
Lastly, Led Zeppelin is the Led Zeppelin of generation x. They are timeless.
Danny Carey is most definitely one of the best to ever do it. Neal Pert from rush is another drummer that should definitely be top 10
sorry fellas, I think you're referring to Getty Lee, Rush's drummer? the man is phenomenal no doubts here. Getty can more beats per minute than any drummer today or anyone before him.
Dude Geddy Lee is the guitarist/back up vocalist.
I think I love you man, no homo....Neil is not only likely the greatest drummer to walk the earth he is also an amazing songwriter. He has wrote almost all of Rush's lyrics.
This really happened!

I would have never known....lots of people don't realize how good he really is. Love when he does the yyz solo
They're in my opinion the most intellectual band out there. From basing albums on the Fibonacci sequence to teaching of Carl Jung and self exploration. I don't think any other band could pull off what they do. I used to think it was just kick ass music. The more I dug, the more I learned.
They're pretty enigmatic. Probably more rumors around Tool than any other band, like they're Satanists, or they're gay, or they're necrophiliacs. If you know where to look, you can sort out the bullshit. And I agree with everything you said. I've been obsessed with Tool and Maynard since '92. If you're as obsessed as I am, this interview is a must listen.

Maynard is a genius. Tool has put out some of the most masterful music, no doubt about it. It's very difficult to pin a favorite track; scratch that...impossible. It all depends on the mood. Right in Two is always a high ranked one in my book.

I am a full blown audiophile and Tool will always be #1 for me. I have saw them live more than any other band.
Led Zeppelin will always be timeless good call. My first concert I saw Page and Plant at Madison Square Garden, that was an incredible experience.
I like how Lateralus (album) kind of starts off in a much more positive and introspective direction and just when you think maybe they are getting a little too soft they hit hit you with Ticks and Leaches.
Now that you mention it, I think I remember reading about that. If that's the case I'd settle for a new Perfect Circle album. Just not that Puscifer project that MJK has been on...can't get into it. A new Tool album would be great if the lawsuit doesn't drain the creativity from them due to stress, etc.
I am Okay with Puscifer but I never cared for A perfect circe. As far as Zeppelin, as great a band as they were I don't even think it is fair to compare to the two (even tho I did) Tool didn't rip off anyone and everyone like Jimmy Page did.
Danny looks like he has been putting on weight. They need to get that guy in touring condition.
I read somewhere they (tool) have another album planned for next year, but I'm not sure what the legal ramifications around it are.

As far as I'm concerned, these guys are at the top of the food chain. On another level completely from anything released in the last 25 years. This video was my introduction.
I look at Tool as generation X's Led Zeppelin. I will never forget hearing the entire first album for the first time and being completely blown away, that is until I saw them live, then it was set in stone. The songs you guys already put up are great but one of arguably their most amazing works is the song Lateralus. To play an entire song in the Fibonacci sequence is nothing short of amazing. Not to mention the lyrics, the message. Ride the spiral to the end...
Enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS7CZIJVxFY
Any of you guys that play drums will also appreciate how difficult most of their time signatures are. lol
Fuck yea dude this is a CLASSIC in my eyes. Tool was very underrated IMO and I still throw this on in the gym.
The first time I heard this song I was watching a video of motorcycle wipeouts, and this was the background song. A little different from my normal vibes, but that's probably why I like it....

My wife said that eroids is rotting my brain after she looked over my shoulder n saw that lol
My wife said the same thing when she heard that song , then she got hooked too, lol. Check out Love letter to Japan and Fucking Boyfriend too,lol
I like how much emotion she clearly puts into her vocals, it shows on her face that she really enjoys what she does
That video was from like 2007. I wiki'd her (Since I am stalking) and she is actually almost the same age as me, married with kids. I was crushed. Here I thought I had found a nice sister wife candidate for my wife. lol. Katy Perry is still technically available so all is not lost.
Woah woah....I know you're a MOD and all but KP is mine lol my wide is gonna laugh her ass off when I tell her that one, Katy Perry is my "celebrity crush" and everytime she's on TV my wife has to bust my balls about it
My wife is extremely jealous of Katy as well. In time they will learn to love each other, lol
This shit gets me ever time.
