trying to find a job w/ a DUI on record

when i was young 2 years back, i made the stupid mistake of drunk driving. Now I got a DUI on my record and im applying for Engineering jobs as i am ready to get out of college. How much harder is it going to be to find a job as a first time engineer with this DUI? any one got advice

Put it this way. I would hire someone with a DUI faster than I would hire someone who lied about not having a DUI. Just be honest and transparent about it and I think you will find that most people will respect the honesty.
AnonGood point, but from a business stand poing if all your drivers had a dui history you would be paying out the ass for insurance.

Man I got a DWI on my record as well for being dumb a few years back. It doesnt look good, but most people i come across can sympathize because they likely have done the same thing. You dont have to let them know because its not a felony(unless you had property damage or someone got hurt) so just be honest if they run the backround check but it would look better if you put in on the application.

AnonNot true if any job requires you to drive and they pay you they will run your driving record. My thoughts are be honest about it an you'll find something. SteveB comments like that give unions a bad name, I'm a Teamster and your statment is inaccurate.
StevebI am a Teamster here on the west coast. And no one in my local got denied a job from a background check. But yeah if its a driving job you probably won't get hired even if its a union job.
i have one have had a few problems but of all charges its low on the list luckly i live in a country where i can get a pardon and am in the process of it now
No big Deal ! They may run a background just as long as it on your app you should be fine ! Just be straight up about it !!
My wife is the HR manager for a big corporation. I just read her your post and she says it's a class A misdemeanor, I think that's what she called it, and that it's only a big deal if you're gonna be driving a company vehicle or would need to be put on the companies insurance policy. It likely won't keep you out of many job opportunities. Good luck bro.
You're good man. I got more than that on my record, did YEARS..AND also have a BS...and I have employment(manager status) at a billion dollar corp, LOL. Talked my way into that one!!
Don't worry at all bro! I am a civil engineer and recently graduated! Got a DUI year before last and blew .16! Went to court got a PBJ. Did all the necessary AA classes and probation. I finished everything and its not a conviction. Have u gone to court? Is this your first time? If so you shud be ok man! Just do what needs to be done. As for your job if you get a PBJ and successfully complete the program then you don't have to worry about anything!

well my BAC was .15 so i cant beat mine
ALWAYS refuse the roadside sobriety test and NEVER blow if you KNOW you are over the limit. Your getting cuffed either way, so the less evidence they have the better. Can't you get a first time DUI reduced to a 'reckless driving' if you pay some fines and jump through some hoops?

that's EXACTLY what mine got reduced to.
i got pulled over for loud music because of some asshole next to me at a red light. it was friday night at about 1030. i had left the bar to meet this chick, and was 2 blocks from her house. i admitted to the asshole cop that i was drinking but wasn't drunk and was just trying to get to a bed bc i had to work in the am. thought he'd tell me not to get caught back out on the road. instead, he had me get out of the car and called his LT over. i didn't refuse the field sobriety test bc i wasn't given the option. they are supposed to tell you that you have the right to refuse. i remember everytime they asked me to do something, i laughed, shook my head, and said "seriously?" i already told you...
at the station, this other young cop tried to act like a hard ass with me. i asked how long it was gonna take to process me, bc i had to be at work early the next day. he tried hitting me with that "depends on your level of cooperation" bullshit. nigga... i just got out of prison from doing a 6 year bid. i don't give a fuck if i sleep in my bed or on that concrete block in there. either way, i'm going to sleep and i WILL be at work in the morning. i was out of there in less than an hour. lol
The days of cops 'protecting and serving' and following you home are long gone. If they were to 'let you go' they become liable for any negative actions you my encounter once you leave the scene. Also, DUIs are now worked as a huge revenue raiser for the city and state. As for them rookies in their new found 'costume'....yea you would think they have a big superman 'S' instead of a badge. No disrespect to LE of course.
Anonhaha. i agree. buddy of mine's brother in law is a cop. the way he explained it to me is:
so, never admit. make them do their jobs if they want to. my little admission cost me over $3k.
Shit i paid 3.5K and still wasnt able to beat it....but they did have me on camera swirving and as soon as i got in the back seat i passed out and the cop put the camera on me. Fuckin blows but i did my probation and i damn sure aint pulling that shit again....cabs are much cheaper!!
