Totally depressed: SLAP surgery

ad

Hello all,

I´m from Spain so sorry if I make many mistakes.

I write this post because I am totally depressed and would like to know if anyone has experienced the same situation.

I was preparing myself for my first contest but at the beginning of last December I started experiencing pain in my shoulder. I went to several doctors and they all diagnosed it as tendonitis (I even had an MRI scan). After 2 months of not being able to train shoulders and chest, I decided to ask my doctor for an Arthogram RMI to see if my labrum was torn. Well, unfortunately it was (I also had supraespinatus and subescapular tendonitis) and I had surgery 14 weeks ago.

Some people say that even if you have surgery, your shoulder will not be the same. I can not accept this as bodybuilding is my passion. I am taking antidepressants and go to Psychologic therapy.

I started training last week but my shoulder doesn´t work, it´s even worse than before surgery.

Do you anyone who went through this situation? Do you know any bodybuilder who was able to recover from this awful injury?

Thank you very much guys, and again, sorry for my English

Bro I've been through 3 shoulder surgeries labrum tears and capsule tears. Stay away from bench pressing, incline pressing and decling pressing for quite some time and never go very heavy when it starts to heal.. I can't even tell I had surgery on my shoulders honestly they fell great. It took about a year for it to fully heal to 100% again but it will heal!

12 years of baseball and heavy heavy pressing tore it I still need 1 more cyst removed but im working around it. Yeah those will all get you healed up quicker just remember its not an overnight thing and be careful with it and yes I had minor tendonitis after the surgery

14 weeks isn't a long time to recover from shoulder surgery. I had a major subscapularis tear and a detached front delt, repaired by surgery August last year. Is it perfect now? no. Will it ever be? Probably not. I still get pain, but I'm learning to work around it. Some exercises aren't possible any more, but a lot are.

Suggest you ditch the anti depressants and get yourself slowly working again. Plenty of people in worse situations than you or I for that matter. Sounds like you're feeling sorry for yourself a little too much. It's rough, I know, but self pity won't help you. Not trying to be an arsehole here, but sounds like you need a bit of tough love.

Physio, deep tissue sports massage helps me a lot. Need to strengthen your rotator cuff before you do anything lifting wise. Slow recovery, 3 months is nothing. Patience mate!

I do understand and also get your point. Your "dream" may well not be over, just "on hold". 3 months is too soon to be thinking the way you are putting yourself across here, you sound like you've already accepted defeat. Give it time is what I'm trying to say to you. Injuries are part of this game, I've been in it for over 20 years. I was nearly killed in a road traffic incident 10 years ago, October I step back on to the stage at a decent level. If I can bounce back from 10 months in a wheelchair, so can you.

Whatever you do I wish you a speedy recovery.
