Might not be a big deal to some people but to me its huge. Drank a fifth every weekday for 10 years and a half gallon every day off work in between. 10 months no slips, I dont smoke or use any other drugs, been off dope for a decade.

That's great man. I work with a guy that's well on his way to recovery. Man he has told me some stories. I try to help and keep him motivated..he showed me his 1 year coin he had in his pocket the other day. Keep pushing brother.
Yea its just nice, I dont have a physical coin. I just decided on the last day of yhe year(this wasn't related to some resolution or anything) I was staring myself in the bathroom mirror at home thinking what the fuck are you doing with yourself. And decided it was time. That was it, no meetings or anything, I decided for 3 days and just said fuck it. Its a bitch sometimes but just changing all of your habits instead of just stopping drinking ir using makes it so much easier.
Keep it up. My friend went to rehab and got out and got a job at the facility as a maintenance technician and helped others out as well there. Super cool dude. Things happen in life for a reason that doesn't mean there all good. Keep steady and on the path brother.

I remember those initial times - Sooo much fun.
First the Sober day coins, then week coins, then the month coins and then the years!!! I still have them all on top of my Fireplace.
The First 2 years are CRITICAL pal - I would say these are the hardest to get and probably the easiest to slip up on from what I saw at AA. Never think to yourself 'it's okay, just for tonight and it only be a few - I'll stop tomorrow' because it never goes like that, it will be 4 days of madness and then you will never be able to live with yourself because of everything you have just undone overnight. You will be right back in the depths of HELL again. Get these 2 years and then it just becomes normal and second nature to be sober - You no longer have to try not to do it.
After that, every day is on the same level and even keel - no more massive ups or downs, or should I say permanent downs because thats all that happens in the end when you are a full blown addict.

Yea I did that back and forth with drugs for a long time as well. So yea, the process can trip you up 100%. Its not a game for people like us with anything really. One thing I can say if anything ill try my best to put all my effort into taking care of my family then myself. I cant be a shit example of a person.

Biggest thing I learned is that what works for others does not necessarily work for you. Have to find what does and roll with it.
