This life is but a vapor

ad

I shared this earlier on a different post, but with it all on mind so heavy I wanted to make a post of my own to share it. I had a grim reminder once again this week that our life is but a vapor & it can go as quickly as it came. Death is something that most of us have dealt with more than our fair share, but for me each time I deal with it I am reminded that it is the dash between our birth & death that matters most. I went to a friends house Sunday to pick him up for church & found him face down in his floor. I could quickly see by his skin color that he was gone & had been for several hours. He went by way of a heart attack at 49 years young.

I’m reminded that our lives matter. No matter who we are or where we’re from or how low we’ve been on this life it’s worth living & enjoying. It is appointed unto every man to die & then the judgement. It’s worth the sacrifice & selflessness to help & encourage others. We often spend more time worrying about the things we cannot change rather than focusing on those things we have power to change & sometimes people just need a little guidance or a little encouragement to keep pushing through this life with your head held high no matter what life brings you. For me, I’ve had a rough month, but I know I’m blessed more than I deserve & there’s always someone who has it worse than me. I choose to do my best to make the right choices. I choose to be positive & hold my head high. I choose to be strong mentally, physically & spiritually. As a good friend of mine said, our families need us & they need our strength. Our friends need us & they need our strength. As I mourn the loss of a friend, I find again the fact that our life is but a vapor & it’s worth living! This dear friend was poor & his family couldn’t even afford a funeral. My church will pay for the cremation & have a memorial service for him. Although he had nothing in the physical, he hugged me each time he saw me & as we parted & told me he loved me & appreciated me & it was something that was dearly felt. That generosity & selflessness speaks volumes to me. It wasn’t what he owned we he passed, but who he was. We do have a choice! There is still good in this world & there are still good people & It’s my desire to be one of them. Be strong, be healthy & be happy & make a difference!!

Much Love & Respect

JAR

Sorry for your loss and pain.
Your friend was about my age, which is scary. When you get into your 40’s, you start to realize that you are mortal and this life is short.
I found a doctor that specializes in folks my age and older and preventing the diseases that afflict people my age. I see him every 4 months, which includes bloods. Also, yearly he runs all kinds of tests on my heart and checks for cancer (ultrasound, bloods, etc.).
My point is that we all need to take our health seriously and do all we can to Stay on top of things. I’ve also changed my diet and eat healthier all the time.
Sticking around not only matters to us, but to our friend and family.

Thank you my friend!!
That’s a good example for you to set bro & thanks for putting it here as a reminder that we should all be checking with the doctor on a regular basis as prevention. The earlier something is found the better the chance of recovery. We absolutely should take our health seriously!!

You just never know with the heart and with cancer. Everything can seem fine and then you have a major issue. Staying on top of it is really the only way to go. Too many people think it can’t/won’t happen to them and/or afraid to find out what’s going on. It’s always better to know there’s a problem, than to hide from it. Can’t fix a problem you don’t know about.

Yes sir absolutely the truth!! The only thing that trumps prevention is early detection!

Sorry to hear about your loss man. I’m burying a best friend here very soon.
He struggled with addiction and depression. Lost his gym membership a good while back. I’d been dragging him out to my set up in the barn. Trying to keep him moving and active. Seemed like he was doing great. We smashe legs hard last weekend. The next day he doesn’t show up. I get a call that he ended it. Crushed a ton of pills up into whiskey. He left behind a couple beautiful children and a wife that doesn’t know what to do. Loved the fucker, but I’m angry. It does no good to be angry at the dead though.
I was there when the coroner showed up. He made a point to tell me how enlarged his heart was. This guy was on trt, and did a few dumb cycles, but nothing crazy at all truthfully. I don’t think he ever broke 750mg a week of test. And I’m sure the drug abuse and the smoking alongside everything else played a big part on that. It still has me evaluating things. We’re here for a very short time. We need to make the best of it.
So today I’m gonna smash some back and shoulders with his playlist blasting, and finish turning his urn.

Whatever you do don’t forget his mistake & use it as a tool to help someone with the next time you see the opportunity.... that can at least take his bad situation & make good of it. Im sorry for your loss. I myself had 3 deaths this year alone and all were family. One even under 30.. i dont want to highjack your thread. We all love a crazy, hectic life. Working, family time , kicking ass in the gym. Also we all add extra mileage to our bodies adding some juice and alchol to our lives.. sorry for my rambling my point is !!! One of the best things you can have for your family is a life insurance policy, sometimes under 20.00 a month you could leave your loved ones 100,000 or more.....
Im not in the business, im just letting you know its a good idea to look into it... again sorry for everyones loss

Thanks bro! Yes sir I have 2 $10,000 policies & a $150,000 policy as well.

Im really sorry to hear this happened. That is way to young but for me a grim reminder of how the lifestyle I once lived could catch up to me. Im not religious but I do believe in always telling a person how you feel about them, never go to bed angry, and dont hold grudges. I dont think about myself but the people left behind. I want no one to question or doubt how I felt for them because life is way to fragile and can be taken in an instant.
Stay strong brother!

Thanks my friend! It was definitely his old lifestyle that caught up with him. That’s a good moral code to live by & it reminds me of the Garth Brooks song, “If tomorrow never comes.” He wrote it for his daughter.

Sound advice, sorry for your loss. I'm sure he was glad that his friend came for him, it was better that a stranger didn't find him. You're the man for finding the right words in a time like that, good on you. Take care.

Sorry for your loss brother. As I have passed the half century mark I've come to realize how short life is.and how fast time seems to go by as you get older. You mentioned church so I assume he has been saved. Take comfort in that he will be in a better place. As far as accumulating wealth and riches Billy Graham once said I've never seen a u-haul it trailer being towed by a hearse to a funeral so you can't take it with you.

JARHEAD2's picture

Thanks brother I really appreciate that! Yes he had been saved & going to church the last 17 months & he’s definitely in a better place!
