SOPA--Stop Online Piracy Act!!!
ad
Is this a gateway way to shutting down sites like this? This site, and others like it,have helped change my life style for the better. While I might not be a heavy hitter, I still look forward to, and rely on the wealth of information provided here. Sites like this help us all make better informed decisions and are just plain fun to be a part of. This question especially goes out to administrators who run this site and anyone else who can give us all further insight of what the future holds if this bill gets passed and what we can do to prevent it. Thanks

Just watched it. Gives me a deeper level of understanding and makes me feel all the more un settled. Thanks for sharing...oops forget I said that.
AnonThis is BIG Brother at his finest... if we all turn our heads and look the other way or individual freedoms are slowly disappearing ... People are sheep and sheep are afraid to make noise.. they want safety and security .. they don't get it safety and security are non existent and freedom is something we are giving away .. the future looks bleak my friend..
I am usually upbeat about most things, but when I read about the topic I posted, it gave me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. Like what next?? Are you kidding me?? Like the walls are closing in. Thanks to every one for their input.
"Who’s behind SOPA? Rep. Lamar Smith, a Texas politician who’s been known mostly for his anti-immigrant stances in recent years. Smith’s got big industry backers, namely: The Recording Industry Association of American, the Motion Picture Association of America (now led by former U.S. Senator Chris Dodd), and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce." Quoted from Huff Post.
tread-mI have seen Dodd speak on this, in fact today, he has complete control in his words as it come to the subject. Understand too, his motives as he has expressed in a way I interpreted them is sensorship. He actually likes the idea of the bill to control wha it is he views as anti- his views , to make opposing opinion have equal time. Now that does not have anything to do with the bill but he see's a way he could use it for an advantage. That was my whole point below. Maybe someone had what they thought was a good idea in its origin but rather than going after the frauds they are proposing taking over at the isp level instead. Thats not only pure evil, its agenda for the good of the few via taking the power away from the people. Our founders intent is that the gov works for us and the pwer grabs such as these turn that around year after year. This one may be the straw though, this could change our lives in every way over a decade in the dark of night.
Well if they stopped at music and movies,..............I could live with that.
but sadly that is not how the US government works.
+1
tread-mThis site is an extremely small reason to hate this bill. For anyone who follows the Gov this a simple power grab for the federal government to control 100 different aspects of your life. All control the gov has began with something this small. The entire department of commerce and everything they control is a result of one lawsuit against one man from the supreme court. This will be the start and if passed they then control every single site on the web and that means they have knowledge of every single thing we do at all times and I can't even think right now of all the control that would be surrendered to them as a result of this bill. It could then be used to control all pay systems and banks that use internet banking and require those entities to report anything you buy that is outside the bounds of the norm. This bill could be used by the feds to control any aspect of our lives given everything we do is linked to this technology. This is our gov stepping beyond the boundaries they were meant to step! I'm not a scare monger but I know history and I know things like this are how communism sprouts. I love eroids but its near the end of the list of concerns I have concerning this type of power being handed to our DOJ ! The only good news here is we are going into an election year and it will be a topic and all candidates will have to vow to kill this at some point or another...I hope! We have laws already to stop fake sites from selling patented or copyrighted material and they don't use them which tells me the reason they say we need this is a lie. It is a power grab for something else entirely unrelated and we just don't know what it is yet...once we do know if this is already in place, its too late! Help kill it now and call your congress person and sign the petitions and throw a fucking fit! Lol. This is pure evil people and you can see it now and stop it or wait till later and cry about it.
Hey Tread,.........how many terrorists have been caught under the Homeland Security Act??
Now how many regular law abidding Americans have been arrested, assualted and threatened under it ???
It is all about your rights,...............and takeing them away from you.
tread-mThatsit...the way you walk to California is the same way you destroy the Constitution...one step at a time!
MultipurposeUse this link to send an email to your congressman, it is a pre written email, all you have to do is give your name and address and it will automatically choose the correct congressman http://action.theeca.com/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=5006
Anonthis bill is free pass to our government to shut down ANY website they don't like.. write your congressman.. as in use pen paper and a stamp...the old fashioned way.
tread-mThis goes so far beyond the web its not even funny. They want us focused on it being for the web.
Somebody in Washington is overstepping their mandate.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Anonoh come on the constitution is a joke right now... don't get me started.
I would vote for George Washington and the original group of signees knowing full well they would hang a bunch of the present house for treason.
tread-mWould hang most of them for treason and would be ashamed of us "we the people" for letting it happen. Its so easy to convince someone the are entitled to something free and if they will vote for that person they will get it for them . Thats how elections are ran anymore, the one who offrs the most free shit wins! Thats why those of us who earn our own money are too broke to pay for essentials after the tax man takes everything to give to those who choose not to. We may deserve to plunge into another great depression or worse as a result of allowing our country to get to the place it is without rising up. "He who does not control his destiny deserves his fate". So have any of us fought hard enough for what is right and forced every man who could to stand on his own two feet......not so much. Its tough to not give in to wanting free shit someone else worked hard to pay for when it seems like everyone else is caving. Kinda jumped topic there...sorry
