some questions for the construction workers !!!

ad

Lately I've been tired as fuck, I work 60 hour work weeks in the blazing sun and humidity of the south.... I'm a pipe fitter so I'm running screw pipe or doing big bore welded pipe... and everyday I come out of work tired as shit and I know I gotta hit the gym when I get home( after sitting in rush hour of course) but as soon. As I get home I eat and shower and change for the gym and as soon as I sit down to let the food settle in or there is something interesting on TV (shark week) I end up falling asleep on the sofa lol

I just wanna know how other construction/tradesmen do it on there day to day basis ? What helps you get the energy to hit the gym and the drive ?

Do I need to get back to snorting coke lol jk

I have this same problem and actually had it today. I work 12hr shifts 4-5 times a week and on my days off I watch my 6 month old all day, want to talk about tired. ..Im not a morning person so waking up at 5am and working out is out of the picture. To be completely honest bro, I have my best workouts when I push my lazy ass to get off of the couch and go. Im a night time gym guy, I get off at 7pm and go home and rest, then work out at 9-11pm. What helps me is watching you tube motivational videos or music. I dont want to be fat, I in vision my goals and say to myself " you aint gunna get there on the couch".

dont go to your house brother, go straight to the gym after work and shower there. youre already at the gym there is no backing down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BlackDoug's picture

Simply put bro... It's a state of mind! Sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and bare it..... Good luck! Disipline is key

Yeah I know brotha...I've been training the wife to tell me shit and make fun of me if I don't go to the gym..lol.. its gives me the boost I need... she gets a lil carried away with it ... lol

JRTX956's picture

Yeah I know bro and every time I lift something I try and get a work out with it lol I miss working night shift .. its alloy more cooler and straight to the gym after work with no one there and no traffic to piss you off

When I was in the army working 12 hour days I would hit up the gym during my lunch break. I always just wanted to chill when I got off that's why lol

JRTX956's picture

Hell yeah bro especially after a long ass day in the heat

Early to bed, early to rise...
When I work out in the morning before going to work I actually have more energy during the day.

JRTX956's picture

True that true that ... and now my apprenticeship classes started for this semester and I have to be in class from 6-10 on Monday and Wednesday so I have to hit the gym on the weekends ... if I don't I feel shity lol and a waste of cycling ...

I use to carry dumbells in my truck and workout before school and during break. The apprenticeship goes by quick.

Lucky my man... I have to ride my motorcycle to work so I can use the HOV lane . Just so I can beat rush hour every day from and to work lol

Wow I don't envy you that sucked

This is tangential to your issue - but don't forget to prioritize your workout and have a plan of attack for each day:

A.) Bare Minimum that needs to be done that day (squats, bench, deads, etc.) - think big movements here.
B.) Important Accessory work
C.) Nice to have's, but not the highest priority.

If you are beat to shit at the end of the day, muster all you can to get through A.
If you have the energy, go on to B.
And then if you can, on to C.

Some days, maybe you'll only do A, some days just A&B and other days you'll hit all three, but either way, that's ok...doing something is better than bagging the whole day - you're still making forward progress.

Thanks brotha ! I like your logic bro

Build a gym in your house and don't sit down until you are done working out

JRTX956's picture

Hahaha I wish man ...great idea brotha...

I'm in the same boat. Everybody is different but if you could sleep afterword I would take a scoop of xplode. If I take a preworkout I won't sleep that night. Shower + Dinner + Couch = Sleep. I always eat vary light before I workout and then pig out afterword. It's a fine line because you want fuel but don't want to crash. Find a gym that's on your way home that helps.

JRTX956's picture

Gonna try and change my preworkout .. maybe I've already builta tolerance to it .... and hell yeah a few minutes on the sofa and I crash the fuck out lol

vhman's picture

Good idea. I cycle through four differnt pre-workouts. It keeps my tolerance at bay and each one feels differnt, so that helps to mix things up.

This stuff is high end we use it in the military as well as for professional fighting. You start drinking this it will make the difference I have no doubt.

JRTX956's picture

Thanks brotha will look into it

Darktide's picture

No problem.

Yeah its getting rather fake and hyped up... just like that episode of the megladon didn't believe it was real events recorded.... other then that I love to see the air jaws, when the great whites are eating the shit out of the sea lions that's my shit right there

TED's picture

When I was working construction I would eat slam preworkout and go didn't sit down because I knew I wouldn't get up. Sucks but I beat myself anyways because I knew I had to

JRTX956's picture

Yeah I was doing fine for a good lil while. Now its like my body tells me to sleep lol.. I hit the gym on the weekends to make up for the day or two I miss during the week

TED's picture

If you're making it up then don't kick yourself man

JASON_C's picture

Not sure what time you have to be there in the morning, but I have to work out in the early morning before work. At the end of the day, I have nothing left, and it compromises my workout. Foruntately my gym opens its doors at 5am. Not sure if this is possible for you, and it DOES take a little time to get used to, but it works for me. And I don't have quite as strenuous work as you.

JRTX956's picture

I'm up at 5 am getting ready for work and leave at 6 to start at 7am .. I've thought about working out in the morning but dam that would be brutal lol I would have to sleep as soon as I get home.. and that would suck for my wife Cuz its bad enough I hardly see her lol

what I do is when im at the time clock about to punch out and go home im eating. on my drive home in traffic im eating so when I get home I shower change. the least amount of time I spend home the better. mix a pre workout drink and drink it on the way to gym I also like to inject before the gym only cause it mentally gets me going good luck bro cant wait to hear some more answers

JRTX956's picture

+1 my man I do it exactly the same way ... I just stopped eating in my truck after I almost had a wreck lol
