This fucker is a beast for sure, but I mostly like how he goes about his business. Had a bad tear and is coming back strong . He has changed his routine to lighter weights and more strict form and says he has had best gains yet. I have followed suit and for sure muscles are more sore than ever. I really think the ego thing of going heavy is so strong most of us men cant bear to lower the weights. I now really try to squeeze the muscle and contract hard with every rep. It looks like I am doing baby weights now but fuck it I dont care. More gains and less risk of injury are the side effect! Its actually mentally exhausting lifting this way as well trying so hard to connect the mind to the exact muscle, Was wondering if anyone else has switched up to this or not? I think Nick has legit shot at the Mr O title next year. Hes a bit blocky but my god he has a crazy look.

The last few years I've been struggling with a chronic condition in my right hand. Lifting while in pain is not to much fun, but apparently that's how we iron heads are, stubborn! Forget about the pain, either hit it hard and heavy or go home (that's our ego talking). So finally it caught up to me and this year the doctors decided I needed surgery and part of the hand was amputated along with the pinky finger. Needless to say I was out of commission for about 2 months. I was depressed thinking if I was to lift weights ever again. About a month ago I started little by little to train again, obviously my grip right now is shit, so lighter weight is what I started doing, watching my tempo and form. Going for volume of 15-25 reps with lighter weight intead of the clasic 8-10 reps with heavy weight. Amazingly my body is reacting really good, so good that I've been questioning my whole approach to training. The mind-muscle connection is there 100%, the pumps are amazing and on top of that I feel like I can keep my heart rate elevated compared to heavier routines, maybe because of the resting period in between sets doesn't need to be as prolonged for recovery. Taking into consideration that I'm close to hitting the half century mark, discovering this at this age it has been a life saver. Not saying that it will work for everyone, because we all know we react in different ways when dieting, training and supplementing, but in my situation it's certainly working.

I saw this guy who was in a motorcycle accident and burned is whole body and lost one hand and I think both feet. In the hospital he looked BAD like a burnt skeleton missing pieces. And now he’s JACKED and he’s a black dude so all the burns healed pretty good so he doesn’t look bad from all the burns either. It’s crazy to see what he looked like in the hospital and then to see a video of him deadlifting like 455 or something. He uses a hook/strap thing for his missing hand. Crazy inspirational

Thats fucking awesome man great to hear and good for you! It sure is working really good for me now as well, the mind muscle connection as you say is key and its much better for me with lighter weights.

wanted's picture

I use straps and even have lifting hooks
Maybe they can help. Glad to see you keep grinding through everything

Izzy75's picture

I did get a pair of lifting hooks, they work really well. You can focus on the muscle and the movement without worrying about losing your grip.

The Guy is an utter fuckin beast - always was in the gym right from the early days. He's one of these guys too that can tolerate an absolute shit load of gear and seemingly be unaffected by appetite loss, feeling horrible, feeling rough in the gym when lifting.

I think mat jensen guys have the real deal increlex

Rosschestzip's picture

I heard that incralex isn’t magical, and not the trick that guys think is missing. Like people would always say that oxygen in Kuwait probably has incralex and comments like your “so and so’s guys got incralex and then I’ve heard guys that have used it, like it but they say it’s not like a life changing substance. I think the half life is like 5 minutes, so maybe if you had mountains of it and could inject it 20 times a day, then maybe it’s magical. I’ve used recombinant igf-1, which is what incralex is, and it wasn’t crazy, I liked the pumps but that’s it. But again, I think you need like a crazy amount of it

I’m too old and too weak to ego lift…I’ve always been super strict on form and getting a good eccentric and only go heavy once every couple months. I’m 44 and pour concrete for a living, I labor more than the young laborers on the crew else I’d go nuts watching them and our company would go broke, so the slightest injury is gonna hinder my work performance, compound that with slower healing and I’ll be fucked

I have a special love for concrete. Was my first job mixing mud in a barrow at 11 yrs old with a hoe. Still love doing it 20 yrs later.

In my 24th season here brother. The Sicilians broke me in, they didn’t want a green as fuck 20 year old white boy on the crew, those guys broke me down physically and mentally, but once they seen I wasn’t going anywhere, I had their respect. I preach to the young guys all the time about those guys and how they wouldn’t survive one day on the crews back then. You had to be very headstrong, resilient and thick skinned or they’d eat you alive.

How do you manage to do that all day bud and then go and lift weights in the gym? Are you not completely and utterly dead on your feet when you get home?!

Chad P's picture

Honestly man, I was an alcoholic for about 16 years. Quit drinking 6 years ago and got back my hunger for life. Slowly got back into training, jumped on TRT almost 3 years ago and now I’m living for all the years I threw away. I love the grind, I love the gym, and I love busting my ass to take care of my beautiful family. Every day is a blessing and I truly push to get the most of each day because I know it can all change tomorrow. But yes, after long days and training sessions I am definitely ready to get my 7/8 hours of sleep lol.

Good for you Mate, Good for you!! Good

Stu is the man. Did you know that he NEVER injects glutes. His coach has said not to that it doesnt absorb as good as other places. And he has a very reputable coach ( bleau ). I though it was interesting

wanted's picture

Well he eats like a horse force feeding and the 10ius for over a year straight might of helped junp a hurdle. But he is a big boy now and should be ready for a good victory soon. And get back to us on why he doesnt like stu injecting in glutes

23Sparta's picture

I’m riding the exact same train as you. I watch Nick, emulate his technique, and am getting results. I just watched a short of his regarding structuring a shoulder dominant push day. Ran it how he suggested, and my caps were more burnt than any day I’ve ever trained them solo. He’s dumb as a box of rocks but man he knows how to lift. Love that dude

QUADFATHER1's picture

Haha right. He knows how to train man for sure!

Rosschestzip's picture

Also there was a recent study that came out showing that the stretch might be more important then the contraction. So I’ve been trying to incorporate both. One side of my chest is smaller than the other, and after like two weeks of coming down real deep on dumbbell bench, it grew and looks almost the same as the other pec, it shocked me but proved to me that the stretch is super important.
But speaking of Nick, you think he’ll get penalized for those crazy fucked up calves veins. Do you think they let a guy with an “imperfect” body part be mr.O

Has varicose veins bad

QUADFATHER1's picture

Very cool man nice to hear. I have really noticed my biceps peak getting much better with hard hard contractions which I can only get with light weight> Rear delts as well. His veins do seems a bit ugly on lower legs but it seems to add to his freakiness I think. Hes a mutant.

DeeMan's picture

I think those veins use to look worse than that.
I think he had surgery awhile back. But yea he's a monster but man a bit too blocky for me lol.

Also the eccentric ( lowering) of weight is just as or more important than the concentric
(ascending) of the weights. Mind- muscle connection plays a big part also.

Rosschestzip's picture

The study had said that doing partial reps that are the deepest half of the lift, are equally or even more effective then full range of motion. So that means like on a dumbbell bench press bringing them down almost next to your nipples then up at least half way but not fully extended and back down again is just as good as going all the way up and is definitely better then going from full extended and only coming down three quarters of the way and back up to fully extended. I was honestly surprised to hear that but it’s only one study compared to, I’m sure, many saying that full range of motion Ian better then partials. But this may be the first study looking at how those partials are actually done

I gotcha. Cool

Rosschestzip's picture

Idk man those things are BAD I saw a pic he posted just today or yesterday and they are fucked, they may not look as bad on stage as they do in off season cus of the tan and everything. And I think your right about the surgery thing but I can’t imagine them any worse

Owes a Review × 1
DeeMan's picture

They use to look alot worse man I promise you. Even Arnold said something about them while commentating at the Arnold classic. After that Nick had the surgery I noticed.

Rosschestzip's picture

I can’t imagine them worse, and Arnold saying something about your flaw would definitely make you wanna fix it

DeeMan's picture

The shit looks BAAAADDD I agree.
Wish u would of seen it before his surgery.

Yea I heard Arnold hurt his feelings.

23Sparta's picture

Eccentric…. Bingo

Rosschestzip's picture

Ya the biceps you can really squeeze hard on those contractions, I think it’s probably one of the easiest muscles to have that connection with

Ego lifting has its time and place for sure. I don't think Nick beats out Derek or Hadi. I love Nick but he's too fucking big

Owes a Review × 1
DeeMan's picture

Honestly I'm familiar with all those guys but not too familiar with them. And yea I agree, Nick is too blocky. I prefer the earlier era guys. But I do like the way Hadi looks. Hadi would fit into that 90's era.

23Sparta's picture

Did you see when nick walked out on stage with that big ass food baby to present an award at the Arnold?

NWApatches's picture

Haha no I didn't see that but I'm going to look it up. I can see it now though

Owes a Review × 1
23Sparta's picture

Ridiculous big. I like that look though

DeeMan's picture

O yeah? You like that look? I prefer a more Arnold type look. See what I've noticed is alot of women don't like too much muscle which is crazy cause you would think opposite. I bulk up at times but when I'm lean I feel better and seem to look better. I like that bulk though. Just depends on how it makes your body look.

23Sparta's picture

Haha yeah I do personally like that look, but agree that it’s not the pussy getter like you think it would be. Growing is just fun af to me right now, and you kinda get complex like it’s never enough. Since I already know this about myself, being an addict and taking shit to extremes, I’m giving myself until June and then I’m hitting the all stop button, jumping out the plane and pulling the rip cord. I’m already paid up and committed to a boxing gym, so I can have some balance in my training and get a little more go to go with this show

DeeMan's picture

I didn't know you boxed. I did a lil something myself. I love the sport of boxing. To this day there's no other sport that will tire you out as much as boxing...well maybe track and field but still. And go luck man

23Sparta's picture

Haha I already know you’re a super fan from reading these boards. I’ve just trained off and on, here and there, through the years in the joint. By no means a boxer, but you get dudes in there who are, amateur fights under their belt, especially dudes from Mexico, silver and sometimes gold gloves. When I came across one of these guys with real skills, I’d pay them to train me. We make pads out of shower shoes, and wraps out of sheets and ace bandages. Absolutely love it. You’re right, it’s a kind of wind and endurance that’s unique to itself. This will be my first time in an actual gym and I’m going to a good one, one of the guys who trained me in there, it’s his family’s spot and they are recognized out here

DeeMan's picture

I feel ya. But you know exactly what I'm talking about...that feeling. Hey if ya know ya know!

23Sparta's picture

Yeah I know that feeling, it’s in the back of my mind and I’m about to bring it to the front in a few months

DeeMan's picture

Lol hey certain guys talk the talk but real ones can talk and walk the walk!
Good for you man

23Sparta's picture

Yeah bro, you already know. We don’t mouth wrestle where I come from.

DeeMan's picture

Lmao....my manz said mouth wrestle..that's the first time I heard that one.

The loudest one is usually.....well you know how that goes. Been that way since the beginning of time and will stay that way. I've seen alot and I promise you, you're speaking facts. Wish I grew up with a silver spoon in my mouth....must be nice.

DeeMan's picture

Sheeetttt! That's what I'm talkin bout! Be about it!!! Yessir!

23Sparta's picture

I always told the youngsters…. You say something, you do it. That’s what you’re supposed to do.

What’s gangster though, is to not say anything, and just do it. Let your actions speak.

Never wanna run your mouth and not follow through. It’s real hard to come back from that
