I think you're my first man crush

No homo

Of course

The OP doesn't want you guys to get offended while he gets offended. All I did was give him a look at things from the other side in the same manner in which he delivered his message! That my friends is a double standard. Just putting ppl in a category at all is fuckin stupid. The reason I didn't go in this thread until someone told me I should check it out.

WELL I was going to get my pop corn.....

IrishMack's picture

Why do people get so fucking butthurt when they get called out? the tears of a banhammer do taste delicious with this moron beadhead or whatever the hell is name was.

OmNom's picture

Meh.. you have every personality type and class in every region of the country.. just more some than others so that's when we begin to stereo type that region.. but hey stereotypes are there for a reason too right? Any ways snobs tend to be the lucky kids born into money.. any one who's actually had to work to make big money doesn't act that way usually.. Realistically if you need to dress well and have nice things just to impress people or make people like you.. well that's just pathetic.. your personality is prlly shit and you can't be as intelligent as you think you are if you can't find other ways to impress people or make yourself happy.. Really these are just kids that were told by mommy they are special 1 too many times =/
In my case I feel like a total asshole over dressing, bragging about a new car or just wearing shit into public that shows off muscles... Anything I do to better myself is for me because I want it for my selfish ass.. not to impress others

I've been to every state, guam, and PR. I've lived in every quadrant and midsection of the country (military brat and wanderlust) my take away is that the cost of living and wages are relative. But if you had a choice start out in life in the west coast or northeast. you'll have more options when you want to retire.

As far as people go. I found it was ME that was different.

Once I settled in and shed my xenophobic attitude ("This isn't as good as it was back where I came from") I found that we are just the same everywhere across this country.

Sure, there are some states I'd rather not live in because of their governance but that is exactly what makes this country great. Don't like your liberal, conservative, or right to work state? Move out -it's not like you need a passport or visa.

Nitti's picture

You are using the term "up north" too loosely. What are you talking about? What region? And in what dream did you hear that ppl in the south make more than ppl up north? I am from the North East. One of the major cities on me coast. The cost of living is way higher than most places and and in turn we make that much more. The cost of living increases alone are more of a raise than the ppl I talk to who are working for a private company. Haven't had an increase higher than 2% in 5 years but feel stuck. Ohh , did I mention I am a union commercial engineer? And I'm the shop Stewart for my local and represent 25 guys in my company. We do pretty friggen well! Why do we have a chip on our shoulder. Well ppl come up from the south and disrupt the ebb and flow of things. They drive 2mph looking around at shit with their big redneck tires and confederate flag tint on the back window. That might be one reason. You keep sayin the north which I have no fucking idea if you mean Minnesota , Montana or NYC. Totally different worlds my man. I think that alone shows how your own stereotypes give you a bias view of ppl. Just like I picture ppl in the south like This. The women , super sweet and polite. Very generous and hospitable. The men, a non shaving, non bath takin, sleeping with his cousin, no dentist going to , dumb as a rock , cut off flannel shirt wearin ,tobacco spittin mufukr who don't work and shoots beer cans with his shotty all day. You see how this goes? Grouping ppl up is just not accurate. I don't care how large or small the group. But anyhow, In my region there are 50+ million ppl packed into a small area so we get a little crabby. But if you can keep up with the flow, you'll notice we don't have a chip on our shoulders, just an intolerance to bullshit!

Nitti's picture

Who you talkin to like that my man? Did I fuckin say anything disrespectful to you? Now you can go kick rocks bitch!
Let me get this straight, you make a post offending an entire hemisphere of ppl. Grouping them all together like the closed minded fuckin tool that you are. Then you say don't get offended "homies" (which I personally think was a knock) but you get offended when I rebut and put things in perspective or put the shoe on the other foot huh? I didn't disrespect you, you muthafuckin DAMN SURE ain't Gona disrespect me!

People in the South can be as stuck up and exclusive as anywhere. The "hospitality" is somewhat pretentious and superficial. The difference is politeness and manners are engrained in the culture whereas in NY or DC being self-centered and acting like trash is what is norm. I agree that upper midwest folk generally are the most genuine, centered people i meet.

Darktide's picture

I do believe this a perspective topic meaning from your perspective what you said is accurate based on your experience. I have spent time all over the world as well as all the directions of the US. My bias would be where I grew up because I experienced the most hatred there. As I have grown and learned my perspective has changed to believing that there are assholes and genuine people in all places.

I do think your read on the places you have named has also been my take as well with the exceptions of course.

Muffins's picture

I've spent a good portion of my life in the northeast. In that region it is all about impressing one another. I lived specifically in CT. The need to impress people ran rampant. I think a lot are so in debt for this practice it puts them in a piss poor mood. Now, the Midwest is where it is at, such a peaceful region.

MONK's picture

I feel like if the dude that buys the $600 pen is buying it because of the price he is an asshole, but if he is buying because he is 'a pen guy' and buying because he knows a shit load of knowledge on how it's made etc etc I say fuck it if that's his game who am I to judge.

IrishMack's picture

LOL so true; once I stopped money whoring I became a much better person, and I sleep great at night. Trust me you feel better knowing you could afford that pen, but choose not to because the money can be well spent on making your inner person happy not the outer.

IrishMack's picture

omfg so true, I work in CT and you mostly see people driving their fancy cars and trying to wear the best clothes. My favorite is when I see people on 91 driving brand new audi's or mercedes with a broken window and they duct taped plastic over it LOL I can afford a 60000 car but cant afford to get my windows fixed.

HllwdBdBoy's picture

I can't believe you guys are blanket statementing an entire region..... I guess EVERYONE in the South is dumb and sleeps with there sisters, EVERYONE from the mid west is obese and EVERYONE from Texas is on parole (well ok, everyone from Texas IS on parole)

What you are describing is Classism and it everywhere. The HAVE's snubbing the HAVE NOT's and the HAVE NOT's snubbing the HAVE's

You see what you see in CT because the wealthy NYers by a second (or third) home in CT so they don't have to live in the city

IrishMack's picture

Classism is the new racism; and also noone can say they never made a derogatory remark to anyone or ever coveted what someone else has; its the new american way or dream. I drive to work in the summer in my older Z06 that I worked hard for and see newer ones worth 10 times more beat the crap out of. Is it classism that I say to myself the guy is a fkn idiot? NO. My philosophy towards that is if you can afford such a nice car that I can't then take care of the damn thing or house or whatever else. I have rich friends that actually care about what they own and are anal OCD about it. I respect that shit. That's all i meant about the people in CT, and its the same everywhere you go.

HllwdBdBoy's picture

Once again a statement made out of lack of understanding... the privelaged lead a very different life than you and I. EX: I live aad work in LA and interact with ppl that make your CT ppl look ghetto. I was at Hllwd party and the conversation led to credit scores. This pompous ass made the comment that he didn't understand how ppl let their scores slide, you simply write a check... he did not understand that some ppl DO NOT have the $ to cover the check. He is the victim of an overpriveleged lifestyle and will never enjoy the simpler things in life... he has my sympathies

...or maybe your guy with the taped window (that you don't know or know anything about) is one these guys that has a car payment larger than his rent and if thats the case then somwone with that low of self esteem deserves your pity not your angst

Darktide's picture

He is the victim of an overpriveleged lifestyle and will never enjoy the simpler things in life... he has my sympathies

Who are you lol? I have to say that outlook impresses me and for sure shames me into being more compassionate. You are a dick Blum 3

IrishMack's picture

It is pity they receive not bitterness or angst. it's pity that they can't be satisfied with being happy and debt free and they must always try and "keep up with the Jones's." It's pity when I have to rearrest a bail jumper because he stole for food for his family and his kids might starve without him trying to provide. It's pity like you said to listen to pompous asses day in and day out to think that material possessions and money makes a man. I do understand believe it or not for myself being on the high end of the food chain to being on the low end. Going from 250K a year (which is still small peanuts) to lucky to get 60K. From being homeless on the streets and watching people walk by the guy panhandling and telling him to get a job or giving him a measly penny; then bragging they donated money to some cause overseas because "everyone else did." To have friends that are lucky to get 500 a week and working 70 or even 80 hours to working 25 and making triple. it's sad to be honest that we all lost our way

If anyone remembers John Lennon; then this quote sums up exactly how I feel

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life."

B52-BODY's picture

I remember that quote.... good point !!!

HllwdBdBoy's picture

brother we live in a world where 70% of the population doesn't have enough food... but BILLIONS are spent on plastic surgry and porn every year in this country alone... its sad that if we took 10% of the worlds Military budget we could provide food clothing and healthcare to the entire planet

So on a relative scale calling someone an idiot because he taped up the window on his Audi is a bit laughable... yes?

IrishMack's picture

Not to say i have never done such things before but only because i couldnt afford to fix it but laughable in a pitiful way? Absolutely.

Engineereddisaster's picture

On a side note. No shit, the nicest collective group of people that in have ever met lived in rural Minnesota corn country.
Is bet my left nut that there aren't nicer people than those people.

ANBRO's picture
Why are you bringing your nuts into this?
HllwdBdBoy's picture

Uhmm... I'm from the North East and I'm a dick... didn't think it was geographical in nature though : /

Darktide's picture

It is always good to know the origin of ones dickery Smile

Engineereddisaster's picture

This is true. The only way that hllwd could be a bigger dick would be if he moved to west coast.

kodiakGRRL's picture

I can testify to that ...o-O (not all the time H.. lol)

IrishMack's picture

This is grygst72 from the North East, and I approve this message. I am a Massholeaholic.

scoobydoo's picture

Not all states in the northeast are like that.I remember talking to a guy from Louisiana that had worked on a gas pipeline in Maine. He said he was surprised at how nice the people were because of the stuff he had been told about the northeast. He said the friendliness reminded him of Louisiana, but people had a funny accent.lol

Drywallstar's picture

I am from the north where upmc owns a ton of hospitals Smile I also have always thought that once you cross the mason dixon line, the hospitality and friendliness increases. It is expensive to live up here in this rat race! Fr sent

Engineereddisaster's picture

Hey brother. If it makes you feel any better, I like the hell out of southerners. I lived in the deep south for quite a while and find southerners to be about as high quality people as you can get.
The hospitality, the good people, the good food. Shit bro, the only people who hate southerners are people that have never really gotten to know them.

Chi side Beast's picture

I'm from the Midwest, so a lot further north than you. Been down south a lot over the years and a huge thing I've noticed y'all don't take things as serious. Southerners seem more laid back, not in a rush so to say. This maybe what your talking about with the chip on the shoulder. We're all I'm a hurry all the time it seems like, asshole bosses always on our ass and so on. I own a business so I'm potentially one of these asses. Can't say too much about union shit cause against it myself, most most ppl in unions seem to love it. Anyways I hope this helps, but don't judge all northerners by what you saw in the north east, we're not all pricks my man, and honestly as soon as I'm able my ass is movin down south.

Pale's picture

I am even north and east of you and I agree. Matter of fact cross the border into Canada and you will find another group with a way more laid back attitude than we have. Is it that we are just hyper competitive that we can hardly relax? I remember being blown away by my Canadian friends attitudes on life in general, I am jealous.

Back to the race..

Chi side Beast's picture

Sorry homie didn't mean the judging in a bad way, I should have have said it better
