General Warning about uploading pictures.

ad

Call me paranoid, but this is for those that aren't familiar with EXIF image viewing. It basically allows you to view encoded information in pictures. This is especially valuable information for people taking pictures with cell phones. When you take a picture with most newer phones the GPS coordinates are imbedded in the image code. A simple browser plugin allows you to see these details. For people with large collections of gear or that are distributing should take this into consideration for unfriendly forum members that could be browsing.

Just a heads up because I have noticed some images with locations embedded in the galleries and with Google maps overlooking the world right down to street level this should be something to consider.

Cheers,

Crazy

dumbass question, I know.. but how do you give someone rep points? I'd like to rep both the OP and greg for providing that link because my profile pic was unscrubbed. Thanks guys

Here's a lightweight, free, tool that will let you keep your camera/phone settings and scrub your photos before uploading.

I believe you can also open the photo in photoshop and "save as for web" and it strips all of the EXIF and META data out

I know some phones can disable the location feature. The auto scrub idea might be worth looking into. All food for thought anyways
