The human Genome Project began in 1990. It was to be the complete mapping and understanding of all human genes. DNA (deoxyribonucleic Acid) contains all our genes. The results of the Genome Project were published in 2001. According to the theory of genetics, physical gene sequences contained in chromosomes found in each cell in your body are the blueprint for all your body’s physical structures, biochemical functions and inherited behavioral patterns. When the project was launched the scientific community was sure it would unlock the mysteries of human disease, however the findings were not what was expected why; because the project found that humans only have roughly 25,000 protein-coding genes, which is roughly the same as a roundworm. If 25,000 genes isn’t enough storage capacity to explain the blueprint for a human being, what explains the missing “link”? Consciousness!

The Merriam Webster’s definition of consciousness is; knowledge shared by a group of people.

In the spiritual community consciousness is viewed as the spiritual originator of material life. This means, consciousness was a form of energy that existed primarily within the spiritual world and was the stimulating force for material life, or the “soul” in conventional religion. Material life did not exist without the presence of consciousness.

So what is the connection between the Human Genome Project and consciousness? DNA alone cannot explain the thoughts, actions and emotions of human beings. DNA can predict such things as physical characteristics i.e. eye color, hair color. It cannot however, explain how a hand knows it’s a hand or a foot not an ear? Rupert Sheldrakes’,Morphic Resonance explanation provides an answer. “The cells tap into a knowledge field – a non- physical pattern blueprint and through influence with that field, the cell knows to active only the genes that code for it to form a blood cell. Therefore, the local physical genes accomplish protein coding, but the morphic resonance field directs the pattern of which genes to activate.” This morphic resonance field is consciousness.

Humanity could exist in a material form but it is our “soul” that separates us from say a chair. Consciousness is what explains love, hate, empathy, sympathy, life after death, grief, joy, sadness etc. Consciousness is energy and we are all composed of energy and energy cannot be destroyed. Consciousness is explained in Quantum physics which challenges the material explanation of the current scientific theory of evolution.
