Brown recluse spider
ad
These are some pictures of a brown recluse I took in my house. I have been infested with these guys for about 15 years. Luckly no one has been bitten yet.

Be careful my buddy was bitten by one and had to get a skin graft
Damn. I hate spiders.
CleyonThey don't like you much either, but mostly because they are scared of your cage fighting skills and jealouse that you're online chatting with hot babes all day.
My mother was bitten by a brown recluse years ago. The bite itself was painless. Then it developed a black pit and th tissue started to die after a few days. Long story short, after two surgerys they were able to stop the necrosis but she was left with a softball size hole in her outer thigh. It has somewhat fill in over the years and the skin has come back but the indention in her leg is still about half a tennis ball. It was also very sickening almost like mono with a hangover. I kill every spider i see.
CleyonMy Mom got bit by a Brown once, and still has a big divot in her leg where it bit her. Those things are NASTY!
Supernova283They're actually not that bad. I was bitten my freshman year in college. Skin turned black there was a small hole where I was bitten where you could see past the epidermal layer and into subcutaneous tissue. It was very small, much smaller than you see on the internet with the massive necrosis. It eventually filled in and there's a scar there. The black turned to dark brown and it just looks like a scar of some sort.
I also had pretty bad abdominal pain and was nauseated for about a week or two.
I might not have gotten a full dose of venom (sometimes they do that) but I'm under the impression that these aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Very rarely do people without compromised immune systems die from BW and BR bites. The only thing I'd be truly afraid of would be a Sydney funnel web spider.
Any reason why the sydney funnel web spider scares you more than a black widow or brown recluse? If the page on wikipedia is to be believed, there have been no reported fatalities from sydney funnel web spider bites since the antivenom was developed in 1981.
Supernova283Have you seen them? Brown recluses and black widows are smaller spiders which don't really look that bad. The funnel web spider is freaking massive and scary looking.
zewif that every seen a camel spider.. yeah go look that shit up..
Supernova283Camel spiders aren't dangerous.
zewinever said they were.. they are huge nothing like driving in the hummer in the desert. Se a camel and a big ass fucking spider underneath it just eating away.
Supernova283They do grow to be like 4 inches long. Pretty big for a spider. Longer if you count the legs.
When I was in prison, one of these bit a guy two cells down from me during the afternoon count----and he died.
Anonand was it the spider bite that killed him or was that just a bonus for the poor bastard ?
AnonNormally Im a live and let live kind of guy, but your right ,if this creature is inside the home then they must be eradicated.
Luckily they are quite rare here in NY, but we do have them and the occasional Black Widow. Deffinitely best to remove any webs from corners.
Good luck, be safe.
Ok all kidding aside. I don't know the makeup of your house, but you need to get ride of these spiders now. If you are infested with these things then move out temporarily. If you have kids around it's a must. These spiders are very dangerous. They hang out in closets and dark places, like shoes and pockets, dark corners. They are not to be taken lightly. Their bite is worse than a rattlesnakes. I know people that have been bit and where out of work for 6-8 months. " Luckily noone has been bitten yet"?? Don't chance it, get this taken care of immediately. The bites are very harsh for kids.
I will see if I can get some of the information they give us at work, but here are a couple of links. Call an Exterminator!!!
A link to some information about prevention and first aid just in case.

Supernova283That's the go to bite picture which blows everything out of proportion. I'm surprised you're showing that as you say you've known people who've been bitten.
I have also been bitten and know people who have been bitten. No one has ever been out for more than a month.
Blowing these bites way out of proportion. These things aren't death with 8 legs. They're just very venomous.
Did I ever say that anyone died? YOU saying anything about anyone blowing something out of proportion is crazy. As far as the picture, you are wrong. It's not the go to picture for many people. There are worse pictures than this out. I do know people who have been bitten with results close to this picture. It's how you treat it after the bite that counts. Can't post them, they belong to the company I work for. We deal with these spiders daily at work. This is a public picture from search to get something quick and why I used it.As far as your bite, I'm sure you didn't get the full effect of the venom. Everybody is different and venom is more/less potent throughout the year.
But this thread is not about you. I'm trying for prevention for him and whoever is in the house. So for you to say It's blown out of proportion, tell the guy at my work that lost his finger from a bite that. I'm sure he would love to discuss that with you.
Supernova283I never said the thread was about me. I was merely explaining my experience with BR spiders since everyone here is acting like they're crazy deadly. I've been bitten and I know 2 other people who have been bitten and no one has lost any appendages. I was bit on my waist, my other two friends were bit on the foot and the on the leg.
None of us had any permanent nerve damage.
In my experience these spiders don't do as much damage as everyone seems to think. I went to the hospital and they just gave me something for the fever and prescribed me some pain killers. Didn't even want me to stay.
I'd say if anyone lost their finger to a BR bite they probably had a compromised immune system.
I would drop down dead from a heart attack if I saw one of those. I can't even stand the sight of flies, moths or ants :S
zewiI'm here for you...
CleyonPray that nobody ever gets bitten by one, those are nasty pieces of work.
15 years my arse, my house would be infested for about 15 seconds because I would burn it down. You got a bigger set than me sleepin in there bro.
zewiYeah fuck that id move.
No1I wouldnt be able to sleep knowing them things was in my house
