I want to draw out a couple of atheists on here. If you are an atheist, what is your definition of atheism? I know the Webster definition but I want other perspectives.

AnonIf you're body is capable to search for water it will need to urinate, the first time you piss its about 90ish percent water and sterile, at the time you began to become dehydrated you will still need to piss eventually. Im not making this up, ive been subjected to it and have done it.

Atheist - someone who doesn't believe in a higher power/spirit/salvation/transcendence and organized religion.
I'm not an atheist. I'm gnostic, yet don't buy into organized religion. I'm finding that science and spirituality are not at odds when I read books like Fritjof Capra's "The Tao of Physics." I have more Faith in science than I do in some holy ghost with a beard and staff that gets jealous and condones murder and rape, yet is supposed to be perfect. What a joke!
The problem with religion is that you can't use words to describe the nature of "being", hence we end up with all these myths trying to describe the true nature of things. Then we end up with religions and literal interpretations of someone's description of their acid trip.
"I AM. I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." Sums it all up.
Now an atheist presumably can not discount his own existence. So who created him? No body. He always was. If I AM all things, then you can't separate the observer from the observed. You are god without a mirror.
Agnostics recognize order in the universe that must be proof of some higher intelligence. They recognize this "god intelligence" but feel it exists for existence sake and nothing more. it is an impersonal god. there is a dualistic nature in their relationship with the "beingness" around them
Then, there are those "spiritual gnostic" as Pale put it. Same as above but add a little "The father and I are one". The I AM is a personal god. He is us. He is conscious of us as we are of him. We can commune with the I AM. We are a collective. "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." However, this I AM cares nothing for religion, does not judge, does not see good and evil. It is pure "love" Love being defined as complete and total acceptance of the I AM, of being, of us.
I, for lack of a better term, include myself as a spiritual gnostic.

I believe the universe is so immense it cannot be that we are alone. But a bearded guy sitting on a throne in a different dimension somewhere did not create us. Most religions are based off the same story. If you read into them deep enough you can see it. They are man made to control. I dont need a book to tell me the difference between right and wrong or how to raise my kids. If I had yo pick a title for myself I would say Im an atheist.

Almost all atheists I speak to are pretty inconsistent with their beliefs but somewhat all have something in common to an extant. They don't believe in religion, they accept the possibility of some divine architect, they just simply can't perceive what God actually is or is not. I just like reading in on peoples beliefs. I hang out with a lot of militant atheists where you can't even say the G word but it all comes down to being an agnostic. When I'm asked if I believe immediately they throw "so you believe in the Bible, and the ridiculous stories?" First off I think Jesus was a Buddhist monk. Second, I believe the zero point field and our consciousness being connected and stored to this quanta database has something to do with the Causality of creation trying to subjectively and vicariously experience itself. I refer to God as being It; not actually having a gender. Electrons are simply potentialities and possibilities until an observer collapses the wave function and shapes them into matter. So what I'm basically saying is matter is only matter because we define and are observing it. What would matter be if consciousness wasn't present? Hindu philosophy nails quantum theory and the zero point field Calling it the akashic records, the five elements and a being or atman transcending to higher planes of reality through jnana which means knowledge to unite with Brahman, that all permeating force.
agnostic atheism basically I don't subscribe to conventional religion but I acknowledge that the universe is so vast that I can't rule out the possibility of a celestial being.
I wouldn't impose my beliefs on anyone until they try and impose theirs on mine

I dont believe in any gods or religion at all, yet i celebrate christmas, easter etc every year without fail.
To me the bible is made up nonsence- written by man.
Religion was created to create hope for humanity and stop panick about death etc.
Each to their own, as long as its not preached on me im cool with everybodies choice in religion.
AnonIve always translated the bible as a basis of laws during those times. To keep people in check and have a little bit of discipline
Exactly..I also think it is very allegorical putting the psyche into certain situations and the nature of impulsiveness. Like the seven deadly sins are all combating acts of impulsiveness
Agnostic, maybe even spiritual agnostic. That simply means I don't know and I am ok with that.
