Torn pec?

ad

Not to sure where to put this post, but does anyone have an experience with torn pecs? I was on my first working set of incline bench press today and felt a big pop in my left pec, i instantly racked the weight cause i thought i fucked something up. I feel like i warm up more then enough, expecially on shoulder, chest, and leg days, i warmed up my shoulders, roatator cuffs and pec for about 20 min before workorout, i did nothing out of the ordinary today. As soon as i racked the weight i went and took 10lb dumbelles and tryed some flys and even with the light weight it didnt feel right. There is no bruising an minor swelling but i couldnt hold a food basket at the grocery store afterwards. If anyone has any info on this please post.

Ice and heat. You can pick up a heating pad from Wal-Mart for under $10 and a couple ice pack for the same. Also while your their also in pharmacy section is Epson Salt add some of this to a hot bath and it will help with muscle soreness.

A tear doesn't always result in visible bruising, but most of the times it does. If the area is swollen then ice it for a couple of days and start popping some anti-inflamatories. I've also used voltaren gel with a good amount of success for rehabing this type of injury. It comes in multiple prepartions, by script in the US, no script in Canada. It's a pretty effective topical anti-inflamatory, the label doesn't list the use of chest/shoulder as applicable, but trust me it works. Lay off of training chest, back, and pressing motions for tris. If it's torn, it will be extremely uncomfortable to lift your arm above shoulder level, like during pull downs and pull ups. Anti-inflamatory, passive stretching, ice, and rest are your best friends. I went through something like this last year, took me nearly half a year to rehab it. You have to be patient, takes 3 seconds to screw it up, and months to fix it. You should have a pretty good idea by tomorrow if it's a true rupture or if it's a grade 1 or 2 strain. Also, don't be afraid to head to an ortho for confirmation.

even a small tear/bad strain brings bleeding pretty immediately with me so hopefully it isnt that

Any bruising yet? If a hematoma starts to form then you've definitely torn some muscle tissue. Keep ice on it. No heat. Heat will cause the blood to pool even heavier around the injury. I had a partial tear a few years ago in my left pec. Wasnt bad enough for surgery but it did require rehab. Have to baby it for a while. You'll likely know more of what you're dealing with tomorrow. If it starts to look ugly, go see the doc to find out how bad it is.

Ice and ibuprofen is about all you can do for now. The good thing is if you're running gear right now, you'll likely recover much quicker than if you were not. Keep an eye out for discoloring. Hopefully it's very minor or even just a strain.
