question for you guys and gals
ad
I am sure many of you are approached on regular basis by people, in the gym or out and they want to ask questions about weight training, fitness and diets. I often feel uncomfortable talking to people about my training, diet, and lifting in general. If I dont know them well I d rather just go on my way. But I dont ever want to seem rude to people who really wan to learn.
How do you guys respond and balance a conversation?

Come on man! You've been here long enough to know that we don't speak about dangerous substances here in the open forum! -2. ;-)
Haha!
I usually go with vitamin C.
Holy shit! Mark McGuire, ladies and gentlemen!
It's and honor to meet you, sir.
Pleasure is all mine...
No homo
I like sharing my experience diet and workout regimen and ya never know maybe they have knowledge they can share with you and their just curious about how you stay in shape
kinda like the way you're asking here on eroids, right now?
backonroidsHaha
;-)
Happens almost on a daily basis, in the gym, grocery store, shopping mall, standing in line for a movie ticket. I've learned to just keep it short and simple....eat a lot of protein and workout consistently. When you start getting too detailed it usually just goes right over their heads.
I feel I have a gift Ask away! What's there to hide? Everyone should have goals. With someone picking my brain will only make us both better. It's not a time to be messing around and it's my playground but when someone has questions ask away.
I have my angry face on while Im working out so people usually dont approach me anyway. But if they did and seemed genuinely interested in what I do I would keep it very basic. Eat much sleep more dont overtrain. Keep it simple if you really arent interested in talking but dont want to be rude. Keep moving, go to your next set. They will get the hint
backonroidsI just keep blinking constantly , do a freaky smile and start saying random words to myself - they seem to back off
Standing to close also helps with this situation
backonroidsThe farts after my breakfast is enough lol
that its 2017! do your homework. problem is that the generation now a days wants everything to dam easily. not being rude is just that im not going to do all their work for them, come to me with a foundation! if you cant do some sort of homework then you simply dont want it bad enough.
Its usually pretty simple, theyre doing bicep curls when they should be doing deadlifts, barbell rows and pullups. quick talk. diet wise, thats a bit of a longer discussion but if theyre totally new to the gym i just tell them to eat big, lots and lots of quality foods and just give them the basics, eggs oats steak chicken fish brown rice potatoes etc. 6 meals a day etc.
Walk into the gym.. proceed to do sets of different bicep curls for 20 minutes while updating Facebook on how they are all about the gym life.
Leave gym dishearten that they didnt gain any size that work out.
Let's be real. Most novices want bigger biceps. That's why I'd point a noob to ICF 5x5 over Starting Strength, because ICF understands that a novice is more likely to stick with a program if he's working his biceps directly with curls in addition to the big compounds. Psychology is an underrated aspect of fitness.
And I've pointed this out many times before: long grain white rice has a GI almost identical to brown rice and it tastes much better IMO. Psychology. If a novice hates brown rice, I'd much rather see him eat long grain white rice and actually stick with the diet. Because I've lived it; I choked down brown rice for months and was miserable until I found long grain white. Saved my diet.
Thats about the same here. But most of the time i feel inconvenienced. I dont want to be an ass, but its always at the worst times.
Maybe just find a site that has good info and direct them there? I wouldn't want to tell someone to come here for obvious reasons, but there's got to be another good one out there.
Or just say, "sorry man this really isn't a good time, catch me next time"
I usually just go with "every one's different, what works for me probably won't work for you. read as much as you can on diet and exercise, work hard, eat right and find what works best for you"
OR you can just say this:
"Not now cheif, i'm in the fuckin zone!"
backonroidsI'm sure there was a massive discussion on this about a month ago / or something similar
A massive discussion about the finer points of telling people to fuck off?
backonroidsMaybe not massive haha but defo a discussion haha
If I don't want to talk to someone about lifting I'll just say I don't lift. The looks of confusion are happy bonuses.
LOL. That gets the wheels turning.
