+ 1 Physique class saturation
So being up so early with not much to do but a lot on my mind thought I would start a topic of the saturation of the physique class. I completed a 16 wk prep and did my first show yesterday. Most of you can probably guess which show I did which happened to be the biggest regional show ever in the history of the NPC. Although this whole experience left somewhat of a bad taste in my mouth because of the un organization of the whole show but it left me wanting more and to continue to try and compete because I don't want to let one show discourage my placing. I competed in men's physique which has 6 CLASSES!! how ridiculous is that! The category is so over saturated its crazy! There were a lot of bodybuilder physiques that allowed them to compete in bodybuilding and physique. A guy in the physique class talked about backstage how he was a heavyweight bodybuilder and came down from 270 to 220 or so to compete in physique because he couldn't win his pro card. In my opinion that's just stupid. I am not knocking them on what they have accomplished but just thought its too much for a category and they need to make some changes because now everyone thinks they compete which takes away from the rest of the category. to speed things up guys had to go 4 and 5 at a time. So no one got to pose by themselves to show there true physique. With everything that happened and knowledge of the NPC, I met some good people and would want to take a year to improve and compete in mens bodybuilding because the whole body is what this sport is about! That's pretty much all I have to say.

Physique = Pecs & Abs class. Like was posted prior, too much muscle and they mark you down. How do they decide the cut off for being too big? They should make physique guys wear posing trunks like the bb'ers.
too much muscle is not completely true. A lot of bodybuilders in the class and the one behind me was def. bigger than me and could of been a lightweight bodybuilder. He took top 5 in the class and won overall the year prior
Thanks for the feedback fellas. Looks like it's not just my opinion but this show did strike a nerve in this game and ready to take a yr off and add some serious size!!
Ya you're totally right it's completely saturated. The show my friends are doing in two weeks has 5 classes it's crazy. I'm gonna do my first show in August I hope it's not like that. I would rather do Bodybuidling also but I need some more size first. So I may just say fuck physique and spend the next year or longer adding more size. But I would like to go thru a full prep and see what it's like. Maybe I'll just do it on my own for fun who knkws. Bodybuildings tough when you're tall but Id rather do that. Congrats on doing your first show tho it takes some serious dedication to go thru did prep and some balls to step on stage
AnonThe truth is that anybody can compete in the npc. Guys in my gym do their first 1-2 shows and all of a sudden are prep coaches on their Instagram. Creating team names and calling themselves CEO of team _____. Comical to me I'll personally never compete for many reasons but see why some enjoy doing it. Not knocking them
yes. its the funniest shit ever. Do a couple of shows and now your a trainer/have your own fitness club and shit. I know a person personally who did one show didn't place and now he owns such and such fitness...smh lmao. what a joke.
Haha, a buddy did a couple shows, didnt win, and now claims to be a coach. I told him to get some primo, and I got lectured.
congrats on competing in your first show, sorry you had a bad experience. most shows will be like that, super congested with physique and bikini. last few shows i did had 200 physique guys, 200 bikini girls, and around 30 bb'ers. at least they let the bb'ers go on first!
yeah some physique guys do have bb'er physiques, but most often those guys are not rewarded. in my opinion the class is soooo subjective, its really hard to say exactly what they are looking for. i know that being overly muscular can be marked down. i know a guy who had really great legs for a physique guy, and he got marked down for his trunks being too tight around his thighs.
My hat is off to you for taking the plunge. It takes a lot of discipline and dedication to do that.
thank you. I went months without sleep and have a full time job with a wife and 3 babies. I trained my ass off for 6 even 7 times a week and lost about 40 lbs for the show. Most of those guys don't have a girlfriend or have any kids and don't work.
