+ 9 Old Guy, New Perspectives

ad

Old guy, new perspectives....

It’s been years since I’ve run a real cycle. I’ve stayed on a low-dose cruise for a long time just maintaining muscle, recovering well, and preserving what I built over decades.
But you guys know how it is… eventually “maintaining” stops feeling like enough.
The difference now is perspective.
When I was younger, it was all about pushing limits: more size, more strength, more compounds, more everything.

Now the goal is different.
I’m not trying to be the biggest guy in the gym anymore. I want to be strong, lean, healthy, capable, and still look like I’ve spent a lifetime under the iron.

At this age, longevity becomes the real flex.

So if I do one more run, it’ll be smarter: lower overall load, better recovery, more focus on bloodwork, joints, sleep, inflammation, and cardiovascular health.

I still want progress. I still want to look impressive. I just don’t want to sacrifice tomorrow to enjoy today. (trust me, I would love to blast some golden hell-fire tren)

That’s the difference between being young in bodybuilding and getting older with new perspectives.

What part of life's journey are you guys in right now? I'd love to hear your perspectives.

This is really an interesting topic for me. I am 66 and also want to look impressive, but I also want the muscle development as I age. My cycles have include test, primo, mast and NPP. My last cycle was a combination of test, primo and NPP and I kept the test and primo consistent but increased the NPP while keeping an eye on labs. I don't go over 750Mg of combined gear. (I know there are many people on this forum who strongly believe test should always be higher than nandrolone, but I disagree). The key thing for me is my labs. Over the past two years every health marker has improve dramatically as I went from 31% body fat to 11%.

Even after studying and listening to a hundred podcasts on steroids, it is still not clear to me how 500-750mg of gear is going to shorten your life if you are monitoring your health, including blood work, heart plaque, etc.

Thinking ahead it definitely has an appeal. Not pinning all the time. Doing some more actual strength and conditioning/functional training as opposed to just trying to jack as much weight as possible and get huge. Getting back into jiu jitsu. Being fit and looking healthy and strong. I can say I’m not dreading when those days arrive. However I’m not there yet. I didn’t start all this until much later than some- my late 20’s. And I’m just hitting a stride now in my early 30’s. I think I have a good ten years left of pushing boundaries and I want to make the most of them. I stay smart with my drug choices but I’m not shy about dosages. And I love seeing that scale go up in a growth phase. I got up to 275 this last offseason. Dieting now but 3 bills is the next goal. For my height I will have to push higher than that. Eventually it will come to a point where the risk and effort isn’t worth the trade. Just not yet.

Very candid & thoughtful post. Thanks for posting.
Times change, goals change, & reactions to stimulus change.
If you are not a professional top bodybuilder or someone who earns a living specifically by the cosmetic look of ones body, there is no reason to risk the biscuit by pushing unnecessary compounds & excessive dosages. Especially for older guys with a family and kids that still want to live.
One can make tremendous goal specific improvement regardless of age & compound use with focus, mindful planning, dedication to proper diet, & cojones & resolve to see it through no matter what.
Adapt or die brother.

When i started all this it was about minimal everything, no rough compounds, Trt+... 250mg test 250 primo. Only gonna cycle once or twice. Now I'm on a 19-Nor lolol. I kinda went backwards, but i think after this one...maybe the next, i'm gonna take a long cruise. Already broke all of my rules i set for myself when i started all of this. Amd have surpassed my original goals. But there is no champagne popping moment, thd goalpost just changes lol

I don’t really cycle anymore I run one compound at a time and for short stints especially if it’s an oral, also as I’ve gotten older I’ve started to dislike pinning I’ve merged over to test creams but I do miss the strength recovery ect when I was younger. One must adapt can blasting once u get older if hella different don’t bounce back as quickly and sides seem to magnify as well. Great post hopefully others will have your discipline and knowledge.

Thanks brother. I forgot to mention the pinning aspect...I think I have some muscle in my scar tissue.

I feel ya bro. What's changed for me is 1) lots more bloodwork 2) shorter cycles and tighter tolerances on side effects 3) quick to bail if something doesn't feel right or any markers start to creep up too much. They don't even have to go red, any wild swings and I'm making a change. I'm also paying a lot more attention to my mood. 4) sticking to what I know.

2nd what -Infidel- said, kind of. I’m late to this game, started trt a couple of years ago and now have dipped my toes in other compounds. I’m 38 but body has taken a toll from labor intensive jobs I’ve had over the years. Willing to try new compounds but after intense “research” and feedback from MORE experienced folks. Health and longevity being priority. I can get a little carried away with it but not to the point or even halfway close to the point of no return. So far since being “enhanced”, I love it. Energy, mental, emotional and physical wellbeing are way better than when I was young. If anything, I’ll be on test until my time comes.

Enjoy it bro. I was on the most at 38 and in the best shape of my life. I remember how invincible I felt and I loved it. I think I'm starting to get all emotional now lol

Lol I can imagine that feeling my young co workers talk about when they’re running high dosage test, tren etc…feel like a god! Must’ve been a helluva good and fun times for ya!
I’m definitely loving it especially having the energy and be in decent shape to keep up with my little ones.

Feeling like a god is an accurate description....minus the times of tipping over on tren and finding yourself crying, yelling, breaking shit and jerking off at the same time

Are you 76?

76's picture

Still a ways off from 76 but also still a ways off from 26

Milfpounder's picture

It seems like it would be near impossible to not be blasting tons of shit all the time when you have an unlimited amount of it lol.

Kudos to you for not being like I would be.

It's hard to resist the temptation but it's kinda like a gateway drug for me.....it would lead to me wanting to start blasting every piece of pussy I see and I don't want the drama that can bring nowadays......or do I?

Milfpounder's picture

Yes to both buddy.

You're welcome.

I'm in the phase between 'no fucks given young guy' and 'new perspectives old guy'... lets call that phase, "The Era of Calculated Chaos" hahahha

I'm still willing to break things (ideas, routines, limits), but now I'm choosing which things to break and why, and I've got just enough perspective to avoid blowing up my own life in the process.
