I got 'carded' this morning getting labs done. Has this ever happened to you?

ad

I went in to get some lab work done this morning, and for the first time I was asked for ID.
Actually, I shouldn't say 'for the first time,' I am always asked for ID, Insurance Card, and credit card for copay, etc. But when I say, "this is prepaid" they back off and call me in for the draw.

This morning, I responded telling the woman that this is prepaid, and she responded, "I still need to see ID."
I pushed back a bit, and she handed me back the order and said they wouldn't process it without ID.

Now fortunately, I used my real name, so I gave her the ID and things went as normal. BUT, I know of lot of you use a pseudonym to protect identity, etc. I don't know if this is a change of policy with the lab (a national chain of med labs) or just this one person's take on the policy...but clearly, had I not had ID matching the name on the order, I was not going to get a draw.

Anyone else run into this?

Never have had to so far just give them the orders they look it up and then tell me have a seat. I always go to the same lab.

I suppose I always use my insurance when getting bloods, if you pay cash I could see why they wouldn't request ID. My apologies didn't think about that

Yeah I've had times where they've asked for it, but alot of times they don't. It just depends on where you go I guess, I have a place I like to go in my part of town and I guess I'm regular now. They usually don't ask!

Yes sometimes they ask for it sometimes they don't.

I am not sure that it's as involved as that...I think the person at the desk was just playing gatekeeper, and she determined she wasn't going to do it unless I 'respected her attoritay!'
As I said, I thought I'd seen where some people choose to use fake names as they do with gear orders. Just a heads up that you might be required to provide ID.
I am going to go back and check with privatemdlabs and see...I thought I remembered that they said no ID required.

Embedded win their FAQ's:
Can I test anonymously?
No, due to mandated regulations, Private MD cannot provide anonymous testing. You will be asked for an ID at the Patient Service Center.

So there you have it. Though not always requested, you are advised when you purchase tests.

Unless of course the NSA hacks their computers.

That bothers me much less than what is sitting on source's computers just ripe for harvesting.
