+ 1 How would you choose a "Trainer"

I see it all the time. I have even said it myself 'if you don't know what you are doing, find a good trainer."
How would YOU choose a trainer?

I’ve come across one guy I entertained training under. He’s pulling a 2500 pound raw at 220 pounds. I’ve seen the success rates, and the numbers he’s put on peoples lifts. He’s fairly high profile, but seeming to lay low these days.
But I’ve also seen the numbers he’s getting out of high school lifters, and all the shit they’re running. The numbers are impressive, the cycles are too much. I know he’d say multiply anything I’ve ever taken by 5. So I’m good.
Slow and steady, but I plan on being pretty jacked when I’m 60.
Plus, if I have a legitimate question, I can just Pm you.
The trainer is the easy part. From my understanding most personal trainers need a special certificate if they want to dish out diet advice with that training. I don't for the most part think people struggle with the training aspect. Most people struggle with diet advice and as we all know that is what will make or break people for the most part. So I would be searching out a "trainer" who is well versed in diet advice if someone ever really wants to be successful losing weight or gaining muscle or whatever their goal is.
I have never hired a trainer. I really have never seen one that impressed.
lets see ?? should I pick the 400euro dressed under armour pusiboys who think gym is fashion tv, and look like they dont lift at all ,or the big damp mofo who takes everything aas hgh peptides hes big as house moans when benches 100kg and having a wallclock to check time between rest!! I cant iam solo the last 4 years!
Find people in your community that are succeeding in exactly the discipline you wish to improve upon yourself. If none are around in your current community. You need to go and find out where they are. Where they train. Find out where the successful go to succeed. Then put yourself in that exact same place. Next be friendly. Be humble. Get to know them. Emulate them. Ask for a recommendation for a coach or trainer that they may know. And as always, do your research.
I wouldn't.
Yoga pants
No Homo
I understand now days the guys are raiding their girls closets and wearing their 'yoga' pants....
Not me. Honest.
No Homo
Nice...
I’d rather go with the guy (or grrl) that started out at 100 lbs and busted their ass to get huge than the one that started out huge and didn’t have to work as hard to get there.
I'd look for the trainer who gets the best results! See their clients before and after.
RustyhookerThe massive 'trainer' in my gym is 5-7 @ 120lbs . Maybe 19 or 20.
Look for a seasoned person thats willing to teach you by example. I was lucky as a youngster at Golds a few decades ago. Everyone competed in bodybuilding, powerlifting, sports.... food and gym was the priority. You had to earn respect with sweat.
I'm in a similar situation. My gym is packed w/guys and gals whe seriously compete. Physique, IFBB pros, and one dude who's competing in Mr. Olympia in a bit here. Just small talking and picking their brains, or just watching how they train can offer a mountain of knowledge. And the more and harder you train, the more a lot of them are willing to offer advice. Like you said- you "earn respect in sweat."
RustyhookerI enjoy lifting with the big mofos in the gym simply because i push harder as well. They see a midget keeping up and push harder. High five and enjoy life.
You sweat now adayson the equipment they will kick us out
RustyhookerTheres a few competitive guys there. But the trainers are all about crossfit. Just not in my resume. Lol
Sounds like its purple and yellow there
RustyhookerIm color blind so i really dunno. Lol! One of the bodybuilders there is bout 5-1 and 190 hard cut. Reeks of tne and lifts like a train.
Who needs a trainer when you have Eroids!
Your goals must align with their ability or it is pointless.
Knowledge+experience+ability to articulate an intelligent and sustainable approach
Experience and qualifications. Looks can be deceiving. Some of the most knowledgeable people I’ve known don’t always look the perfect part. Some of the biggest idiots I’ve known look fantastic. It’s all about doing your research and interviewing the person and asking others opinions on the trainer. Did dillagence. It’s all on us.
Look at Dan Duchene.Looked like a creepy, gangly weirdo.Thats right he was but he was also a body building genius!
And that point can be proven by looking at any winning coach in the NFL.
Look at Tom Brady, apparently he has a dad bod but still one of the best QB's around. He'll probably be coaching soon
I was thinking the exact thing when I wrote this. Great coaches in almost any pro sport don’t look the part, but they can deliver the results. Have to find the right person.
AnonI agree with you to an extent, looks obviously dont mean everything and my post below wasn't to be narcissistic, but the old adage "proof is in the pudding" is usually what the first impression is. If Arnold told you to do something that your average trainer said was wrong, who would you believe?
I agree, just saying looks aren’t the end all. Greg made the point of Tom Brady’s “dad body”, yet he’s arguably the greatest of all time. Just saying we all need to do our due dillagence and see what’s real. :-)
Is there arguments that Tom Brady is not the greatest of all time? Who knew....
AnonDo they look better than me and are they stronger than me? Cause looking at a lot of trainers around my area, apparently anyone can be a trainer.
Its a joke isn't it, all walking around in their cut off T-shirts - with their everyday is an arm day physiques....
When I finally could no longer train my wife,I looked at the trainers around my town.I found one, that documented results of all of his clients. He also let me sit in on a few sessions and get a feel for his methods.I was comfortable with him and then I sent my wife to meet him.He has been very good for her.
How to choose trainer every interesting question
There’s too many gurus and coaches
You have to do your research find a good reliable coach you can depend on him go forward with
Or Do as much as research reading as you can and applied to yourself
If you decide go with coach ask the coach question that hard see what he is his answer if he can’t answer simple questions then how can he be your coach! Good luck to anyone who will invest in coach
I always believe a trainer is a walking talking bill board, if they walk the talk and look the part them selves generally a good pick.
Word of mouth from people who have used and look the part also.
Hope you been good grrrl.
I would look for someone who actually looks the part, has a good record of trainees with great results, is science based, makes individual based training routines and diets and fine tunes them as time goes on.
I would only take advice/be trained by someone who was stronger than myself. Someone I could learn from. If they really knew what they were talking about and not just repeating what they had read then they would do as they say so to speak...
I would look for a green haired girl that looked like she could body slam me.
Hah!
I would love to be able to see someone close by..
Not just send pictures and facetime
Cant wait to hear more ideas
Like I would a good doctor.
I'd Look for someone who sees me; not a 59 year old statistic. Someone who will make you a partner in your training.
