+ 1 Cutting vs Strength Loss?

ad

I'm competing in my state NAS in October, and I have been toying with the idea of cutting down to 200 and competing as a LW. I would try to cut down in the week or so before the comp. The idea behind this is that I would then be at the upper spectrum of that weight class.

I've never really cut before, my training and interests a mostly strength and athletic goal orientated. My question is to you guys that cut for your contests or maybe any MMA guys. I'm curious how much strength you lose? I mean is it drastic amounts? I know obviously you lose some strength, and maybe this is a dumb question, but how weak does it make you? The weigh ins are the day before the comp so I'd have that time for some recovery.

you got me here?.. what type of comp are you talking about... clearly not bodybuilding because there is no way on earth you can cut in a week.... do you mean boxing

Alright ...... thanks bro.

Basic carb depletion and fluid control for 3/4 days should do the trick... if you are in good condition your strength should not drop at all IMO.

X2....... i went off birmons quote that it will only be for a week without much weight loss..... as you say a longer cut with mass loss would inevitably burn into his strength drastically.

If y'all are on speaking terms Nitti could prolly help you out with this.

Most important question: when is the weigh-in? Day before? Day of?

That should be time enough to do a dehydration and rehydration set. You could get down to 210-215 and dehydrate. You would walk into the event 210-215+

I'm under the impression that Nitti has more experience with temporary cuts than myself. If he can't help you I can give you a hand. It will require sodium depletion, lots of sweating, a spit cup, etc. though

200lbs is a LW? How much do you need to cut down? There are many variables that would need to be answered to give you a legit answer. I suggest hiring a coach.
