The historical fact of a story doesn't negate the myth that the story might contain. There may very well have been a flood and an ark. Some traveler could have mentioned to Noah that there was a great sea in the north about to break through a glacial ice wall. Noah was inspired (divinely influenced) to build an ark. Did the entire planet get flooded killing all of mankind... not likely.
The myth can contain and expose overlapping ideas and meanings. For example, the ark can represent an inner sanctuary we can rest in to ride out the turmoil's of the world with a promise of a new beginning.
The romans crucified thousands. But, with the crucifixion of Jesus we have a redemption myth we all can relate to. Think of any life crisis great or small, a job loss, divorce, what have you. First you pray for the situation to go way, you don't accept it and plead for anything but that, "let this cup pass". Then you accept the inevitable. You bear the cross, the burden of the pain, anger, frustration and loss. Next, you surrender your anger (forgive them for they know not...), you surrender the suffering... you die and are reborn with a new light. We go through these cycles as does Adam (a Hebrew play on words meaning humankind). We, are Adam.
Which goes back to Simon's playfully cynical argument that everything is a regurgitation of a myth that is as old as man.
All is true but us humans aren't meant to know it all, not even biblical scholars, pastors or the like. Yes we can have ideas but that's simply what they are...ideas. I know that I don't know it all or can explain everything. I, like alot of folks have alot of questions and that's only normal.
Well the crucifixion is more of a precedent than a myth that we can relate to in my opinion. I’m 100% in agreement with you. I say myths but trust me I put quotations on them. One of the best podcasts I ever listened to was Joe rogan with Graham Hancock and Randall Carlson when they had skeptic Michael Shermer on the show with them. He linked his Archaeologist friend in from the Smithsonian who initially dismissed them regarding the Flood or lost civilization but recently took back all his statements and agreed with all the evidence.

Well look I agree the world is far older than biblical chronology indicates. And yes new evidence is being found that predate original dates but fact of the matter is we don't know all the answers and we weren't meant to know all the answers. Yes I do think this world had prior civilizations that were probably advanced no doubt, various findings kind of indicate that. But regardless it was created by one God not many gods.There just seems to be various setbacks of those civilizations due to man's error so in my opinion that's where the start over come into play. Man cannot and will not ever be God and there's a history of that in the past so not sure why we keep trying to be lol. But hey according to Judaism and Christianity I would be wrong about prior advanced civilizations. They laugh but Atlantis was thought to be a very advanced civilization. Not sure how we can separate religion with what's happening. According to both sides that's what it goes back to.

This book was written in, and confirmed by modern carbon dating technology that we use for everything else, to be legit 10,000 years old. This book says, this 10,000 year old book says, laid out the plan, for tricking everyone into believing what is now modern day religion and we all are just evolved animals. This book is 10,000 years old, would you believe it? Or the 2,000 year old book that’s newer suits our beliefs better? Sooner or later there will be another book or tablet found, in the meantime people could stop killing children. Literally children are getting blown apart by bombing. As far as carbon dating...archeologist has confirmed numerous artifacts, underground cities, scrolls etc that confirm with 100% certainty names or events that happened in the bible. Very Accurate statement but the Scribes wrote the Bible to justify and enforce their laws upon empires who eventually fell. I think the Old Testament is a plagiarized document of rivaling religions. A con artist took the opportunity to make it scripture to justify genocide, ethnic cleansing and slavery. Blacks, Caucasians, semites, all of humanity. Perpetual debt, loaning money, switching currencies has all been a game since Abraham’s schemes. The New Testament was a counter response because it shook the loan sharks down to their very core with a Monk, sage profit or son of God who challenged the system.

But what if there’s an older book? A book that goes back 5,000, 10,000 years? As far as that older book...I thought about that and if it is found then I hope that archeological findings will support what's in the book itself. See Drexyl that's the key to it, a book is just a made up book if it can't be verified by science like parts of the Bible can. If somethings are verified in the Bible then whose to say that other things won't or can't be verified by science. Heck could be true and false but I believe more true. The naysayers can't even dispute certain findings that support the bible. And I'm a science guy like you. Not trying to convince anyone.
The historical records of the bible (a collection of books) is but a small part of that recorded history. The records from the Roman and Egyptian empires, the Philistines, Samarion's... there's a long list of collaborating historical records.
