+ 4 How long do you Train for?

I thought it would be interesting to see how long everyone typically trains for when they hit the gym, just include the time you are in the gym and not commuting time also Smile

I was thinking of doing a commuting time poll also after this if anyone would like to see one lol

Please remember to hit the 'Vote' button after you have selected your answer otherwise they don't register in the count.

Im in and out of the gym in under 45 mins usually these days.
I run a mile then... whatever muscle groups im doing, I do a warm up set to stretch, 1 set up failure, and usually one drop set to end it.

Never longer than an hour. I workout very efficiently.. In one hour I can hit 6-8 exercises 5 sets of each exercises no problems. 6-12 rep range. 20 rep range for initial bloodflow/warmup on excercises/get the pump going.

Now if I do cardio, I throw in another 20-40 mins on top. I prefer doing cardio outside of the gym though Smile

Drexyl's picture

45-60min these days. Any longer and I feel like I’m just beating myself up. Has there been an hour and ten minutes? Or 30min? Sure. But definitely no hour and a half long workouts for a few years now.

UncleYoked's picture

If I'm not feeling it, I may be in and out in 30 min. On those days I just do HIIT and try to get as much in with as little rest as possible then fuck right off back home to become the lazy piece of shit I was born to be while laying on the couch watching reruns of MASH

UncleYoked's picture

In my younger years, 6hrs a day. But that was about 4hrs of various cardio, 2hrs of weights.
In my 20s, 2-4hrs a day 5 days a week
in my 30s, 1-2hrs a day 3-4 days a week (this is where I slowed down on cardio)
in my 40s 1hr a day 2-3 days a week

I definitely over did it in my youth but my frame is set, I believe all that excess strain I put on my body is why I don't have to work as hard to maintain or even grow. I can bulk up without even trying now and stay fairly lean.

HENCH500's picture

I used to train for 1.5 to 2 hours a day 6 days a week did that for years. Then I had new work commitments and thought I’m getting older keep getting injured so accepting I was going to lose some size condition and strength, I dropped down to less than an hour 4 times a week. I actually exploded grew bigger stronger and quick. The Mrs was on me “ your back on steroids not TRT “ lol not that I ever was on trt I was blasting and cruising. The point being the size difference and conditioning was noticeable quickly and from then on I’ve not looked back trains 45min hour tops 4 times a week and I’m confident and convinced I’ve over trained for years and most of us have or do. I would of definitely been bigger and less injured along the way had I always trained this way

As long as you are training properly, more is often not better when it comes to training.

Good poll.

My girl and I train together, she is actually getting pretty fuckn jacked. Her genetics are kinda nuts she is half black and half German so I think of Arnold banging Ronnie Colman’s mom. Together, we are in LA Fitness for about 90 minutes over 22ish working sets. I watched this interesting video on YouTube by Dr. Mike. He said women can typically handle more volume and do lower rests between sets so we are thinking about possible restructuring our workouts to cater more to her needs and mine. I do notice with me taking like up to 90 seconds to recover she’s like you going to go or…. Haha. So maybe we can save some time between sets.

press1's picture

So she's definitely a Real Ass kicker then!!! lol Its maybe to do with the fact that the woman is much lighter and probably fitter in general so she recovers her blood oxygen levels quicker than you do. Plus the male will have more muscle on his frame than the woman so the energy levels within the muscle take more time to gain their strength back.

MurderHornet2020's picture

Yeah she a real one alright. I bet your right.

1.5 hrs of lifting , Always super-setting . Mid Weight High Rep.

15-20mins of cardio and 10 mins of abs/core .

15 minutes of stretching before I lift and usually after .

So I would say I'm at the gym 2hrs a day if no one bothers me .

press1's picture

What if there is some Hot bitch bent over doing stiff legged deads in front of you addicted?

Mightymike's picture

Got to be honest, never seen a girl doing still legged deadlift but I'm imagining it now lol

they do it alot. Always set up right in front of me too when I am on the bench doing flyes or something like that. Lol

press1's picture

All I seem to see online is pictures of women in a deadlift setup in their tight leggins these days, whether they actually do them or not is another question LMAO

Mightymike's picture

Regular deadlift yeah I seen a lot of that, in the tightest leggings

I'm gonna cut out my Cardio and ask her if she wants to do Cardio at my place Smile .

Is it bad that I go 7 days a week, about 1.5 hours a day?

I start off with 10 minutes of cardio and 10-15 minutes of abs before each workout. Then doing 3-5 sets of 10-15 reps, depends on weight.

The past 3 months I've been doing lots of cardio (10 minutes before workout and 30 minutes after workout doing a combo of bike and row). Goal was to get down to 10% body fat (started at 194lbs with 19% BF), in the 3 months, I got it down to 10.08 BF and 166 lbs.

As of today, I plan to bulk up again (just missed my BF goal)

Mightymike's picture

What's your diet like for reducing body fat?
Are you taking anything for it as well

Your CNS will need a break from time to time. You’ll likely find that all of your lifts go up if you take a week off after an everyday training run like that.

press1's picture

A lot of it depends on what your goals are at the time, as you have been aiming to be lean and by the sounds of it fit as well, then training 7 days a week has worked well for you although 6 may have been better to let your body get its energy levels back up a little. If you are wanting to bulk again though then 7 days will be too much I would have thought, you need the rest days more than ever to let the body and muscle recover and rebuild itself. You need to get adequate amounts of food in and get in a good calorie surplus which you cannot do with all that training every day especially with the cardio. Your natural build will also determine how many days work well for you on a bulk. An Endo and Mesomorph will need less rest days than say an Ectomorph to gain weight and muscle.

SoloCon's picture

Thank you for this! I'm blessed to have "all the energy in the world" they say (ADHD), and my body just goes and goes. I'll see if I can go 5-6 days now that I plan to bulk up. Going 7 days is part of my daily routine and by body and my day just feels off if I don't go, I know, sounds crazy.

As I plan to bulk up, I'm keep cardio to just the 10 minute warm up.

What the fuck is this new trend of eating rice krispy treats in between sets of a workout? I’m going to post it here because it isn’t worth it’s own forum topic and it extends the time of a workout with each bite. I swear I’m seeing more and more people, under 27 y/o do this shit. Yes, they all look like slobs.
@press1 apologies brother but I went on one of my rants today when I had to squat in between someone doing deadlift sets and I had to wait for him to eat 1/4 of his treat to rotate racks because they were all used up.

MurderHornet2020's picture

Gen Z getting all their workout info from the tren twins.
Although I do eat them sometimes in my pre workout meal.

JakeKO's picture

Is this for real? We gave out a lot of Rice Krispie treats for Halloween tonight, I should’ve kept a few, LOL. Although, I’ll just stick to my Sour patch kids and a shot of INE before my Saturday morning workouts, LOL. @Makwa taught me that cheat and it made every Saturday morning on the beach this summer better.

Yeh I remember seeing them eating those now! lol The curly mullet craze seems to be over now though.

Lol Has it moved on from Sour patch kids now and now its Snap, Crackle and Pop!!! LMAO

Black90tsi's picture

Sour patch kids are so much better than rice krispy treats. At least i know what to do with the leftover bag of sour patches i have left from trick or treating.

90 min of weights and cardio 6 days a week. That’s how long it takes me to hit my goal of 1,000 calories each session.

press1's picture

I don't know how guys can train 6 days per week, most I do is 2 on then 1 off. I think some people can just naturally tolerate a lot more training and volume, you use to be a heavy squatter didn't you so it must be linked/related to having a strong nervous system and not burning out easily.

iFit's picture

Key words there.. “used to be”. Now it takes me twice as long to burn up all that energy I need to feel normal. If I leave without getting it out I don’t feel right all day.

press1's picture

Hey bud its better to have too much energy than not enough lol I seem to remember you don't eat much beforehand either, just a few cups of coffee!! I need minimum 2 meals in me before I train, ideally 3.

Makwa's picture

If I am in there for more than an hour it is because someone was asking me questions in between sets.

press1's picture

You must be extremely fit to train the way you do.

Makwa's picture

I am always the sweatiest one in the gym. No need for cardio either. Both done at the same time.

MurderHornet2020's picture

Monster, I know what your rest times look like!

CRAZY DOSER's picture

Up to 1 hour.

About 45 - 55 minutes per day, six days per week

press1's picture

Your rest periods must be non existent bud!!

JakeKO's picture

I only take 10-15 second break in between sets. It’s become a choice of a major pump or no pump. So I choose the pump. If I take over a 30 second break, it takes me twice as long to get a good pump, and that’s a big downer to me. Short breaks also get me close to failure by the end of my third set of each exercise. If I’m not at failure, I rep out my last set until I fail. I’ve seen much better results working out this way. I’m also not a big cardio guy, so get my cardio from working out this way. And last but not least, I go to the gym every day with my wife. We don’t work out together, so I need to keep up my fast pace so that I finish around the same time she does. She doesn’t even break for ten seconds in between sets. I wish I had her energy

Makwa's picture

Nice to see someone rests less than me Lol do you go to failure each set?

press1's picture

I don't know how you get your breath back at all training like that, I guess you probably don't until you finish. I use to think Makwa did it brutally!! lol
