+ 1 Starting to lose hope

ad

In February I had a lumbar MRI which turned out to be 3 disks where I had bulging and/or herniation.

Then a few months back I had the MRI on both shoulders which I posted and they weren’t to good.

Now I had a cervical MRI because the pain is getting unbearable and now I received the reports and it says There is severe stenosis of the proximal right neural foramen as well as a bunch of other shit. I been dealing with it for a while and I lost some confidence in doctors because they love cutting but a few guys in here made me realize I was incorrect. Now they are talking surgery and I swore I would never do surgery on my neck or back. Do I keep being a stupid brute and push till it possibly sidelines me or do I consider surgery which could sideline me for good or get the surgery with the hopes I can be pain free and continue doing what we do.

vhman's picture

I put off back surgery for 8 years and now I have nerve damage (both my feet are numb).
I didn’t want a fusion, but the pain became so bad I really didn’t have a choice. I got a third opinion and that doctor said he could do a decompression and not a fusion. I had the surgery about 5 months ago and it was a complete success. I’m pain free. I do wish I would have done it sooner.

Musclemem's picture

V what about these Chiropractors that claim to do non-surgical decompression?

vhman's picture

Decompression by definition is essentially making more space. Taking out bone and disc material surgically does that. No external method can do that, so no, chiropractors can’t decompress. They can “decompress” temporally, but can’t fix the problem. Surgery is the only way to do it.

Musclemem's picture

Thanks V. They make it sound like they can fix it without surgery. I should have known when he said it takes about 30 visits

I’m not against chiro, but it won’t fix stenosis. Unfortunately, surgery is the only “fix”.
Get second and third opinions and ask around for good doctors. That’s what I did and I had great results. Very best of luck.

Thanks V! I wanted to believe even though I probably knew better.

Sorry op, not hijacking your thread just sayin sup to my homies I havnt talked to in a min…
Op: I’ve had surgery on my l-3-4, 4-5, 5-s1 and it’s been difficult at times but what’s better is that I can still push weight and look like a super stud ..seriously tho, if nutrition and flexibility workouts are on your to do list I don’t see why a minor procedure is worrisome..do it and get back in the game …or if you’re not wanting to have the procedure then deal with what’s givin by your body and try n deal with it..in the end, the body always wins…

press1's picture

Drocky Baby!!! Lmao They sure did pal so I had to turn Homo for a while and do a few favours for the marines in the white noise section - worth it in the end though as they let me crawl under the fence! How's the new life as a Playboy millionaire going then??

You have to put your foot down with her and say you are still the man of the house, remind her who is still paying for her damn clothes and makeup!!! OR I could come over and 'get rid' of the problem and we could then just pay some sexy biaatches to hang with us?! Is that a plan or what ....

Drock_357's picture

Lmao…well the wife is a USA wrestler and has been wrestling with the boys since she was 4 yrs old..so if u want to stop by n tell her that then u r definitely on your own with her bud,..I’ll b in the lounge area having a drink while you n her work this out!…lol…luv u press!

So the doctors office called me and said he wants to schedule surgery for 1/20. He said he would go through the front from the throat/neck area. It’s less painful and safer. What scares me is why is he in such a rush. Is it how much they make from procedure or do they just love cutting.
? It’s not like I’m going to be crippled if I don’t get it done next week. SMH

Greg's picture

It could be as simple as you take next week's open schedule or wait 6 months for the next opening. Accept the fact that you need the surgery and just get it already and stop fretting over something you can't avoid getting.

Musclemem's picture

I hear ya buddy I was just hoping maybe some PT or injections would help but I don’t understand that those options are band aids and not repairing anything.

I had an epidural injection for severe stenosis in my cervical area and almost 4 years later everything is still great. I didn’t think it would last so long, but it has. But I don’t have a bulging disk up there nor is a fusion in the cards for me. My doc told me the procedure for replacing the disk to correct the stenosis has a 90% chance of full lifestyle recovery and back in the gym within 6-8 weeks. He also said active lifestyles have a higher success rate than sedentary ones. But once again, sounds like you have a few more issues to deal with than me. Good luck.

Musclemem's picture

Here’s another issue. My job ended on 12/31 and my insurance was 100% coverage. My insurance from that job ends 1/31. My new job I started on 1/1. I usually have insurance coverage my first day of work but this job it’s 3 months. So if I get the surgery on 1/20 like my Dr wants then ten days after I would have no coverage for anything needed after surgery. I pretty sure that means no disability $$$. So do I wait 3 months and be responsible for 20% and also can’t get disability. Sorry guys I know I sound like that annoying girlfriend. Oh well there are many people who wish they could trade their injury for my injury so that being said I’m not going to let it get me down. Thanks for all the advice guys.

So are you saying you are going to go in on 20th Jan for it doing mate? Good
Send me the address and I'll send you some wank mags if you need them bud.

Musclemem's picture

Hahahaha is the US now brother the Insurance companies are suck mother fuckers. This surgery would be outpatient. Surgery then go to recovery for a few hours then go home. Plus doctors don’t want to give pain meds ever since they made so many people addicts. I’m not going to do it this month. I’m so concerned with the long term effects of any spinal surgery. I’m going to try spinal decompression. You can still send those mags.

Besides, do you really want to have surgery in the middle of summer??? What if you aggravate it and worsen the situation before then, and need require immediate surgery? Why risk it, when you could be recovered by then if you do it now.

press1's picture

Well buddy from what you have posted below it looks like the surgeon is pretty confident he can make things much better for you, they are very straight forward guys and if he thought the outcome may be 50/50 then he would have said I'm sure. I'd say go for it mate - but as for the video of it all I'm afraid I won't be watching it Lmao

Mate many a time I've watched these 'A Day in the Life of' videos of Heart surgeons and trauma doctors in the states feeling brave and all that - I think I'm doing well until they do a close up of someone's chest all opened up with the fuckin heart still in there beating away, straight away I'm like F that for a laugh and click off the window as soon as I can LMAO I'll leave the sick shit for you and rusty to watch together with a box of popcorn and a protein shake hahaha Really happy for you though mate Smile

press1's picture

In fact mate just thinking about it now - one of the videos I watched is of the exact procedure you are going to have done in your neck area. He cut in through the neck and into the throat I think, that region anyway on a woman who had pain in that area too.

Musclemem's picture

Yup. Press you can’t say women anymore that’s racist. You have to say person. Lol America is a bunch of soft pussies now. Is Europe doing the same shit

Ohh yes its just as pathetic here too - One of these Non-binary nut jobs was in the news the other day because they were offended when they got on a train and the conductor on the tannoy system said 'Ladies & Gentlemen' - they actually sued the train company over it because they associate with neither gender!!

My docs receptionist got pissed because I refused to fill out a pronoun form. So I wrote on it Non-Freak. It even asks sexual preference so I wrote Beastiality.

I'm so sorry for what you're going through bro, my advice is that you consider having the surgery since it's more likely that you will improve with this. I hope you get better bro.

Musclemem's picture

Thanks brother! I actually went to a top surgeon. He said he can give me injections to help the pain but I told him no band aids. I was a fix not pain meds or nerve blocks. He said my C6 vertebrae is much smaller than the other from severe degeneration and stenosis. C7 the disk is as bad as a bulge can get. He wants to go through my throat and add a cadaver bone with some metal and screws to fuse 6&7 vertebrae. He said C7 has a very very tiny role in mobility so I probably wouldn’t notice any difference in range of motion. He said since I have such large clavicles it could be a little tougher reach the surgical are but he said he can 99.9% assure me I will be much better. Spine shit scares me. We all know that affects everything. If I get it I’m going to ask if it can be filmed and I could post it on here. Rusty may rub one out to me laying on the table lmao.

I hope this gets better for you man. I can empathize and sincerely hope it gets fixed/treated so you can get back to quality living and doing what you love.

Musclemem's picture

D my issue is I always do what I want and I’m kind of thickheaded. I’m still lift but much light and doing more cardio. It’s hard to shut down completely. I just got notification that Detroit PD wants me. If I get the surgery I’m not sure they would take me but if I just try to fight the pain maybe with some injections and PT. I hate making these types of decisions

Damn bro, "when it rains it pours" couldn't be farther from the truth in your situation and hate for you to be going through this. It's truly being between a rock and a hard place and your positive attitude throughout this ordeal is admirable. Focus on the positive and things that you live for and keep pushing forward bro. Always push forward. I hope it all works out with whichever choice you make and even though it sucks, it's never as bad as it seems and someone else out there has it much worse and would give their balls to be in your predicament. Take care and keep us updated.

Musclemem's picture

Thanks D! Being down and depressed causes everyone who cares about you to be depressed as well. Also positivity makes the body heal itself better that cortisol creating stress. At least that my view. This is baby shit compared to people with real disabilities who purse themselves everyday. Shit we take for granted so I just see it as another roadblock that I can crush. Plus are you guys are a huge help mentally and it’s greatly appreciated.

@Musclemem Bud why not just get the surgery and not tell them? Why would they need to know or could you not say you can't start till after a certain date? Honestly bud if you are in that much pain how would you be able to do the job anyway - You need to get this sorted mate as number 1 priority as if you leave it for years there will become a point where it will become irreparable and you will have to live in non stop pain.

Musclemem's picture

Also I do a lot of programming and will have a neck brace for about 4-6 weeks. There’s no way I can look down all day at a screen programming on meds most likely. My job is good. They will keep me on the payroll and let me stay home and just take call from guys t to o assist them troubleshooting issues they can’t resolve. I’m a smart dummy. Do I been told.

Press my past job ended in 12/31 and it’s 100% paid insurance. I’ve never pain for any surgery other than a copay. My new job has a 90 day waiting period. It puts me in a precarious situation. Get it this month or wait till the first week of April.

Thanks brother that’s much appreciated. I’m still in the gym but doing bitch shit. I start by going in the hot tub for 30 min then 30 min on the treadmill. The I try more focusing on working core muscles. Then I try some Pilates and Yoga then 20 minutes in the sauna. My Pilates and Yoga is awful. It’s like a white guy dancing Salsa. I know because I’m that white guy with my Dominican wife.
