I use peanut butter and raw oats as my cheap bulk add To my bulk diets and I get really good results
Tofu ? I would've never thought that.
Obviously any fatty foods will generally be cheap calories. But it is hard to bulk on foods that also come with a bit of fiber and to have the stomach to eat a lot of it (oats are disgusting imo).
That is why I bring you... drum roll... frosted mini/shredded wheats! What? Yes.
We are talking 180+ calories per cup, 5-6g of fiber (mostly insoluble!), and 5g of protein. And that is without the lovely whole milk that you'd add to it for extra calories and protein.
Frosted mini wheats. That's what am talking about

moojI know Jacket potatoes aren't necessarily a complex carb but in my book they still can't be beaten for an awesome workout, if I don't have one at some point in the day I never hit a new PR - Awesome for power!!
Man, I feel for you lads. I couldn't bulk without my Roo mince (ground kangaroo) is $10 a kilo (under $5 a pound) in OZ and the stats rock. I eat TONS of it!
I mean, all those are great for cutting as well. In General just good food sources. You simply can't go wrong with all of them no matter what you're doing

My grocery list is based on what proteins are on sale. I try to keep variety so if no fish is on sale I'll settle for tuna and frozen tilapia fillets. Same with beef. I'll usually end up with at least 96% lean ground beef.
I eat separate meals than the family so it usually ends up being another $80 +/- for my groceries.
First off, thanks for all of the engagement concerning the post!
I do think I misspoke a bit when I said, "cheap"...I should've said " not too expensive". lol
Some cheap steaks can certainly be made more palatable by utilizing some low-sodium meat tenderizer and stabbing the be-jesus out of it with a fork before coking. This won't turn a bottom loin into a filet mignon, but it will help dramatically!
I feel fish is often overlooked and underrated. Every time I go to the grocery store, I always browse the "sale" section. You'd be surprised what you can find if you check it out regularly.
that is the best way to do it. In fact that is really the only time I try to buy meat. Whatever is on sale I stock up on. That is what my freezer is for.
I can't find any cheap lean meats around here. 93% burger vs 80% is like 4x difference in price. Bulking I'm all over 80% lean ground beef but I have to go with the more expensive lean 93% when cutting.
I always use the 93% lean ground meat. I'm going to change to 80% cause it's cheaper and has more fat which I need. Do you notice a big difference in taste or does it taste the same??
I don't really notice a change in taste. The 80% might be a little juicier coming off of the grill but they still taste the same. I actually prefer the 93% but I can't really justify the cost when I am bulking and don't need to be so worried about restricting cals.
I went ahead and bought the 80% a few days ago and I agree. The meat taste the same only difference I noticed is while cooking it you see all the fat melting and if you keep cooking it absorbs it which does make it juicier.. And for the price I'm definitely gonna be hooked lol
i feel ya bro, steak and most red meats have sky rocketed, i usually go for either scotch fillet or porterhouse, in the past 2 weeks i have seen it as high as 38 dollars a kilo, considering i like my steak around the 700 gram mark for tea ( 2 pieces) its almost unaffordable, chicken breast on the other hand has gone down to 8 bux a kilo, so chicken it is mostly as of now, the beef mince is about 10 bux a kilo, also getting more expensive! as for turkey, pork, lamb, fish and turkey, forget about it, unaffordable, some fish is almost 50 bux a kilo for decent unbleached thailand sewer crap, ive found full cream milk to be my best friend during this bulk, been drinking 3 litres of it and it has done wonders, cheap and good source of whey! also eggs, still gotta eat met everyday, but at those costs, i had to find a way to fill the gaps, milk is awesome.
X2...i have went with foods and saved money not buying whey powder. I have a better quality of weight. I feel more solid.
i wouldnt say all of those foods are cheap, but they are all great foods. for being on a budget i think rice, chicken and olive oil will give you the most bang for your buck. anyways nice list man, you got the right idea here. to really build tissue you have to eat eat eat to grow.
Steak - cheap?
Halibut - cheap?
Certainly aren't in the UK.
lol x2, you want cheap, bread, baked beans, eggs and milk. lol thats what i class as "cheap"
