It don't pay to be a police officer these days, to protect and serve, to put your own life on the line, with having your own family and children, to protect ignorant people that look for any reason for a law suit, when the so called victim is in the wrong. WTF? Why do these people riot, and cause more crime? Same goes for the military, nobody is forced to take these jobs, yet they do every second, minute, hour, to protect the innocent, and when their own life is in jeopardy, and they do what they are trained to do, there's always someone out there trying to say they've done wrong. Before you respond, put yourself in that officers shoes, while visions of your wife and children, and your own life are flashing through your head. What would you do?

Just as in any other profession, there are good workers and bad workers. In this profession, the bad ones cast a large shadow over the rest, due to the nature of their authority and work.

I didn't know anything about this until last night when my halftime show was interrupted. I keep things like this real simple in perspective, did that guy deserve to get shot? Dont know and dont care, Did that officer react accordingly? Dont know and dont care. Was all this blown out of proportion or handle correctly? Really dont care, i grew up just as rough as the next man and had run ins with the law on several occasions but i learned a long time ago that if you dont put yourself in stupid situations stupid shit wont happen to you. Police as a GROUP that should be held to a higher standard have a history of well over 200 years of many mistreating Blacks. I do NOT feel that the majority of police still do this today, but old feelings of distrust and injustice die hard. I agree today groups of upset blacks do get together and do stupid distructive shit that harms their communities and their perception to the general public.
Racicm is getting much better in society but it IS alive and well. When my car was built I could be arrested or beaten for drinking from a drinking fountain designated for "Whites Only". And I have friends whose grandparents were children of slaves who were property and was illegal to teach them to read.

As far as how I ended up there, simple , Divorce. My dad lived in the suburbs and did well , my mom was broken and poor. I went back and forth between the two worlds they lived in ten minutes apart.

Cops don't serve. They are compensated for doing a job. With money. They do a job for money. Parroting the idea that they are servants selflessly risking their lives to keep people safe is not taking your responsibility as a citizen seriously. The reality is that they need checks and balances to their power because they are humans and human beings are flawed and make mistakes sometimes.

For me a cop gets as much respect as the guy busting his ass flipping burgers for pennies or the guy busting his ass trading stock for millions, It's a job. The cop wasn't drafted, he wasn't forced to take that career path. Maybe he's lucky to have a job that keeps him in the action. So being a cop is dangerous... So is cab driving bfd. A cop doesn't get special treatment in the big book of Ed. He can haven my respect for working a job, that's it. Nobody is forced into that career path. Unfortunately you get a lot of guys who get into that career path and can't handle his shit. He turns dirty, starts shitting on the little guy, he can't separate his work from home life and takes that shit out on his wife and kids. I've dealt with many cops even dated a police woman.
They are not all the same. Cops in suburbs are usually dicks, while inner city cops seem to have more understanding and also give you some respect as long as you respect them. Small town cops are some of the coolest. Border patrol guys are a joke. Notch above Paul Blart.

The highlight of there day is dunkin donuts and writing a seat belt ticket. I hate all cops, but city cops have just a little bit more respect from me for this very reason.
Police in my city make about $70k after overtime and there has never been an officer shot or seriously injured in the 30+ years I have lived here. I would never be a cop in a major city, but in nicer citys thats not bad pay for a quick community college training program. I would feel very safe being a cop here.
I do not envy what police have to deal with, and appreciate the ones who try to treat those they serve like human beings.
